The royal city of Nin, known for its rich history and unique natural beauty, will once again become the epicenter of creativity and summer fun. On Saturday, August 23, 2025, its world-famous sandy shores will host the eleventh edition of the Sand Festival, an event that celebrates imagination, art, and the fleeting beauty of sculptures created from golden grains. This event, under the motto "the magic that is created and disappears," invites all generations to indulge in creative fervor and become part of a unique story told on the sand.

The Nin Riviera, with a total of eight kilometers of sandy beaches, is a true natural rarity on the Adriatic coast, which is otherwise known for its pebble and rocky coves. It is this uniqueness that makes Nin an ideal destination for families with children and all lovers of relaxation on a soft surface. The shallow and warm sea, which extends for tens of meters from the shore, provides a safe environment for children to play, while offering adults endless opportunities for recreation and enjoyment. Preparing for this festival is an ideal opportunity to book your accommodation in this beautiful place and experience everything Nin has to offer.

Queen's Beach as a painter's canvas

The central venue for the event this year will again be the famous Queen's Beach, specifically entrance number 1 at the location known as Punta. This beach, three kilometers long, does not bear its name by chance. According to legend, the wife of the first Croatian king Tomislav was so enchanted by the beauty of this beach that the royal family came here regularly for holidays, enjoying the privacy and spectacular sunsets with a view of the Velebit mountain. It is on this historic and legend-shrouded sand that competitors will have the opportunity to express their creativity.

The festival program begins in the early morning hours, as early as 7:00 AM, to take advantage of the ideal conditions and morning freshness for work. Teams, families, and individuals will have several hours to turn their ideas into tangible works of art. From magnificent towers and castles, through figures of animals and mythical creatures, to abstract forms, Nin's beach will be transformed into an open-air gallery. An expert jury will have the difficult task of evaluating the most successful works at 11:00 AM and announcing the winners, who will receive appropriate awards. However, the emphasis of the festival is not exclusively on competition, but on togetherness, fun, and creating unforgettable memories. As you plan your participation, don't forget to check the available options for stay and accommodation in Nin.

Inspiration that springs from history and nature

What makes this festival special is its deep connection with the environment. Many participants find inspiration precisely in the rich heritage of Nin. It is not uncommon to see sand replicas of historic Nin churches, such as the Church of the Holy Cross, known as "the smallest cathedral in the world," or sculptures depicting Old Croatian ships (Condura Croatica) found right in Nin's harbor. Others turn to nature, shaping endemic species of flora and fauna or creating fantastic scenes inspired by the sea and wind.

The Nin Tourist Board, as the main organizer, makes an effort every year to enrich the program with additional content. Visitors can expect music, entertainment for the youngest, and a relaxed atmosphere that celebrates summer and life. The festival is a perfect opportunity for visitors, in addition to building castles, to try their hand at various beach games, thus creating a full-day experience filled with laughter and joy. Past editions of the festival have shown an incredible level of creativity, and you can watch short video clips that capture a piece of that atmosphere and recall what it was like in previous years. The recordings testify to the diversity of ideas and the dedication of the participants who push the boundaries of sand art anew each year.

More than a festival – an experience of the royal city

Arriving at the Sand Festival is an ideal opportunity to explore everything Nin has to offer. This open-air museum city, located on an islet in a shallow lagoon, is a true treasure trove of history. a walk through its stone streets will reveal the remains of the largest ancient temple on the Adriatic, the coronation Church of St. Nicholas, the Museum of Nin Antiquities, and the unique Nin Saltworks, where salt is produced in a traditional, ecological way. Take the opportunity to visit these locations to complete your experience. Many visitors decide to spend the whole weekend in the city, and the rich offer of private accommodation in Nin allows you to find the perfect place to rest.

In addition to cultural sights, the Nin lagoon is also known for its healing mud (peloid), whose beneficial properties have been used for therapeutic purposes since Roman times. The combination of clean air, healing mud, and sandy beaches makes Nin an oasis of health and relaxation. Therefore, coming to the Sand Festival can be more than a one-day trip; it can be the beginning of a holistic experience that renews the spirit and body. The invitation is open to everyone – come, be creative, have fun on the most beautiful sandy beaches in Croatia, and take with you memories of the magic that, although short-lived like a sandcastle, remains long in the memory.

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
