In the barracks "Colonel Mirko Vukušić" in Zemunik Donji, on September 5, 2024, a humanitarian blood donation campaign was held. This initiative was organized by the 93rd wing of the Croatian Air Force and included members of the Croatian Armed Forces stationed at this military base.

In cooperation with The City Society of the Red Cross Zadar and the Blood Transfusion Department of the General Hospital Zadar, a significant amount of blood was collected to serve urgent medical cases. These blood donation campaigns are held twice a year, but military members often participate in emergency campaigns when there is an urgent need for specific blood types.

Solidarity and Care for the Community

Blood donation plays a crucial role in maintaining a stable healthcare system, especially during the summer months when the number of emergency interventions significantly increases. Military participants regularly engage in these campaigns, contributing to the provision of essential blood supplies for hospitals across the country. These campaigns not only provide aid to hospitals but also raise awareness about the importance of blood donation within the wider community.

Military members often respond to calls in emergencies, further demonstrating their commitment to humanitarian work. Through blood donation, military personnel actively help save lives by ensuring necessary blood supplies for patients in critical situations.

Collaboration with Local Healthcare Institutions

Blood donation campaigns like this one are an important example of successful collaboration between the armed forces and local healthcare institutions. Ensuring sufficient blood supplies is of utmost importance, especially during the summer months when the number of emergency medical cases increases. Collaboration between the military, the Red Cross, and the General Hospital Zadar enables a rapid response to the needs of the healthcare system.

Blood donation represents one of the most important forms of assistance in emergencies, and every donated unit can save a life. By regularly organizing such campaigns, military participants continuously support the community and healthcare institutions in maintaining stable blood supplies.

Motivation and Awareness of the Importance of Blood Donation

The importance of such campaigns extends beyond the military personnel to the wider community. By organizing these events, awareness is raised about the significance of blood donation, encouraging all citizens to join this noble activity. Every collected unit of blood can be crucial in saving lives, and military participants regularly respond to this call of solidarity and responsibility towards society.

Blood donors, whether military or civilian, play a key role in ensuring the stability of the healthcare system and readiness for emergencies. Such humanitarian campaigns are regularly organized, with the next one planned for the end of the year, providing another opportunity for blood donation and contributing to saving lives.

These events are of exceptional importance for maintaining the healthcare system, and each new blood donation campaign contributes to better hospital preparedness and their ability to respond to emergency medical needs.

Editorial Desk for Military and Security Affairs

The Defence and Geostrategic Affairs Editorial Board brings together authors who have spent many years analysing security trends, military doctrines and power relations on the international stage. Our texts are created from the experience of people who have followed the development of modern weapon systems, the evolution of military technologies and the broader geopolitical processes that shape the world for decades. The editorial approach is based on a clear understanding of military strategies, historical precedents and the ways in which the decisions of major powers reflect on global security.

In our work, we rely on professional expertise, personal experience and long-term monitoring of the defence sector. Our authors have studied military operations, modernisation programmes, international conflicts and security studies for years, enabling them to answer complex questions calmly, precisely and with well-founded arguments. We do not deal with superficial interpretations nor transmit sensationalism; our goal is to explain context as seen by people who have researched security challenges throughout their careers.

We pay particular attention to changes that shift the global balance — the strengthening of military alliances, the development of new technologies, doctrinal adjustments and the transformation of international relations. Our focus is not solely on numbers and technical data, but also on the motives, intentions and consequences behind political and military moves. We believe that defence cannot be understood without a broader geostrategic perspective, and geopolitics without a military dimension remains incomplete.

Each member of our editorial team approaches topics with a deep sense of responsibility towards the reader. We strive for clear and comprehensible writing, whether dealing with analyses of weapon systems, regional tensions or security threats that shape the future. Our work stems from the conviction that information is the foundation of security, and that quality journalism is recognised by its ability to turn complex processes into content that helps navigate a rapidly changing world.

The Defence and Geostrategic Affairs Editorial Board continues to build a recognisable style — serious, well-grounded and analytical — and remains committed to seeking answers that are not always simple, but always important. Our mission is to provide content based on experience, fact-checking and an understanding of the security reality, without shortcuts or clichés. In a time when security decisions have far-reaching consequences, we believe that truthful and expertly prepared information is the most valuable resource we can offer our readers.
