Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia and Minister of Defense, Ivan Anušić, participated in the GLOBSEC Forum 2024, which took place in Prague from August 30 to September 1. This significant international conference, which brings together political leaders, military experts, and representatives of the business community, focuses on enhancing global security in the context of rising geopolitical challenges.

Croatia's cooperation with the European defense industry
Minister Anušić took the opportunity to hold meetings with representatives of the European defense industry during the Forum, including key leaders from the KNDS company. Discussions concentrated on strengthening Croatia's defense capabilities through the implementation of cutting-edge military technology. KNDS, known for developing and manufacturing advanced military vehicles, offered a partnership that could significantly enhance Croatia's defense capability. This move underscores Croatia's ongoing commitment to modernizing its military forces and improving national security.

The importance of these meetings lies in the fact that Croatia is striving to strengthen its military capabilities in line with the latest security threats. Several projects are being considered, including the development of new defense systems, which could involve advanced combat systems, unmanned aerial vehicles, and intelligent defense networks. Cooperation with European partners also opens doors for further integration of the Croatian military into European defense initiatives.

Croatian defense industry and international donations
One of the significant moments during the Forum was when the Croatian company DOK-ING presented its advanced mine-clearing vehicle, MV-4. This vehicle, which has gained international recognition for its exceptional performance in removing mines and other explosive devices, was donated to Ukraine as a sign of solidarity and support in their efforts to preserve sovereignty.

Minister Anušić emphasized the importance of domestic production and innovation within the defense industry. He stressed that Croatia must continue to support and develop its defense capabilities through domestic industry, which not only contributes to national security but also strengthens Croatia's international reputation as a reliable partner.

Information exchange with Italy
Minister Anušić held a bilateral meeting with Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto. During the talks, the importance of cooperation between Croatia and Italy in the defense sector was highlighted, with a particular emphasis on the exchange of information and coordination regarding current security threats. Cooperation with Italy, a long-standing strategic partner of Croatia, enables better preparedness and a more effective response to security challenges in the region.

This meeting represents another step in deepening military ties between the two countries, with a particular focus on joint security projects and operations, especially in the context of Mediterranean security and the fight against organized crime. Minister Anušić expressed satisfaction with the successful talks and highlighted that such gatherings enable a higher quality dialogue and achievement of concrete results.

GLOBSEC Forum: Focus on global security challenges
The GLOBSEC Forum 2024 dedicated a significant portion of its discussions to analyzing current global security threats, including the repercussions of the recent NATO summit in Washington, and forecasts about future global events such as the upcoming U.S. presidential elections and the forthcoming UN climate change conference to be held in Azerbaijan.

One of the key topics was also the continued support for Ukraine in its struggle to maintain territorial integrity. Additionally, discussions were held on the challenges faced by the energy sector, particularly in light of global energy crises. The Forum further emphasized the importance of strengthening European resilience in various fields, including energy, digital security, and political stability. These discussions provide a platform for shaping future policies that will impact global security and stability.

The Forum also marks the twentieth anniversary of the membership of several Central and Eastern European countries in the European Union and NATO, further highlighting the importance of this region in maintaining international peace and security. This historical milestone is an opportunity to evaluate achieved goals and plan future steps in maintaining stability within the region and beyond.

The GLOBSEC Forum 2024, with over 140 speakers and participants from more than 30 countries, has reaffirmed its status as one of the most important platforms for discussing global security issues, providing an opportunity for dialogue and cooperation at the highest level.

Editorial Desk for Military and Security Affairs

The Defence and Geostrategic Affairs Editorial Board brings together authors who have spent many years analysing security trends, military doctrines and power relations on the international stage. Our texts are created from the experience of people who have followed the development of modern weapon systems, the evolution of military technologies and the broader geopolitical processes that shape the world for decades. The editorial approach is based on a clear understanding of military strategies, historical precedents and the ways in which the decisions of major powers reflect on global security.

In our work, we rely on professional expertise, personal experience and long-term monitoring of the defence sector. Our authors have studied military operations, modernisation programmes, international conflicts and security studies for years, enabling them to answer complex questions calmly, precisely and with well-founded arguments. We do not deal with superficial interpretations nor transmit sensationalism; our goal is to explain context as seen by people who have researched security challenges throughout their careers.

We pay particular attention to changes that shift the global balance — the strengthening of military alliances, the development of new technologies, doctrinal adjustments and the transformation of international relations. Our focus is not solely on numbers and technical data, but also on the motives, intentions and consequences behind political and military moves. We believe that defence cannot be understood without a broader geostrategic perspective, and geopolitics without a military dimension remains incomplete.

Each member of our editorial team approaches topics with a deep sense of responsibility towards the reader. We strive for clear and comprehensible writing, whether dealing with analyses of weapon systems, regional tensions or security threats that shape the future. Our work stems from the conviction that information is the foundation of security, and that quality journalism is recognised by its ability to turn complex processes into content that helps navigate a rapidly changing world.

The Defence and Geostrategic Affairs Editorial Board continues to build a recognisable style — serious, well-grounded and analytical — and remains committed to seeking answers that are not always simple, but always important. Our mission is to provide content based on experience, fact-checking and an understanding of the security reality, without shortcuts or clichés. In a time when security decisions have far-reaching consequences, we believe that truthful and expertly prepared information is the most valuable resource we can offer our readers.
