Opatija is preparing for another unforgettable edition of the Children's Carnival Parade, an event that every year gathers thousands of young participants and visitors from all over Croatia and abroad. This cheerful spectacle brings joy, creativity, and boundless imagination through playful masks and costumes, while the streets of Opatija become a true stage of joy and color.

This year's edition, which will take place on Sunday, February 16, starting at 12 p.m., brings a true celebration of children's creativity. The parade will pass through the main street of Opatija, and participants will have the opportunity to showcase their unique masks and choreographies. The event delights numerous visitors from all parts of Croatia, and even beyond, who come to enjoy a true explosion of colors and happiness.

Spectacular Parade through the City

The parade route will stretch from the city market all the way to the Slatina beach, and throughout the passage, participants will be followed by enthusiastic onlookers. At various points along the route, stages will be set up where hosts and animators will provide additional content and entertain the visitors. The special charm of this event comes from the participants – children from kindergartens, elementary schools, and various carnival groups who have spent months preparing their masks and costumes.

Each group brings its own story and theme, and among the costumes, one will be able to see diverse creations inspired by fairy tales, cartoons, legends, natural phenomena, and historical stories. Creativity is unlimited, and every year, the masked groups surprise with new ideas and original performances. This year, special attention will be drawn to thematic masks that reflect the rich cultural heritage and current social topics through the children's perspective.

Children's Joy at the Heart of Carnival Tradition

What makes the Children's Carnival Parade special is not only the cheerful atmosphere but also the importance of preserving tradition and cultural heritage. The carnival has deep roots in the Opatija region, and this event allows the youngest to participate in its celebration in a way that is tailored to their age. Through play, fun, and artistic expression, children learn about the importance of unity, teamwork, and preserving local customs.

In addition to providing an unforgettable experience for the youngest, the event also attracts many tourists, making Opatija a true center of carnival happenings. Hotels, restaurants, and local caterers also participate in creating the carnival magic, offering special programs, festive menus, and entertainment for all ages.

Special Features and Music Program

To make the experience even richer, the organizers have prepared various additional features. Along the route, there will be points with sweets, drinks, and souvenir stands, while the entertainment program will include performances by majorettes, brass bands, and dance groups. Additionally, a special music program is expected on the final stage at Slatina, where all participants will be able to gather and share the joy of the collective celebration.

Practical Information for Visitors

To ensure the event runs smoothly, special traffic regulations will be introduced during the parade. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Maršala Tita Street will be closed to traffic on the section from the intersection near the Ambasador Hotel to Slatina beach. At the same time, one-way traffic will be allowed towards the city center, while one traffic lane will be reserved for bus parking for participants. Also, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., parking will be prohibited on this road, so visitors are advised to use alternative routes.

The Children's Carnival Parade brings unforgettable moments to everyone who participates, whether they are in the parade or among the audience. Joy, laughter, and incredible energy fill the streets of Opatija, making this event one of the most anticipated of the year. So, whether you're a carnival enthusiast, a parent of young participants, or simply looking for a great time, this is an event you shouldn't miss!
