The History of Klapa Tradition in Novi Vinodolski

The town of Novi Vinodolski has a rich tradition of klapa singing that dates back to 1973 when the first klapa "Novljani" was founded. Since then, klapa music has become an integral part of the town’s cultural identity. Over the years, numerous klapa gatherings and meetings have been held, which led to the idea of organizing a festival that will combine traditional klapa singing with instruments such as the guitar and mandolin.

Festival Program and Participants

At the premiere edition of the festival, a total of 12 klapas will perform. Two female klapas: Lađarice from Sisak and Fjoret from Tučep, and ten male klapas: Kolapjani (Sisak), Skalin (Matulji), sv. Jeronim (Kaštel Gomilica), More (Šibenik), Munita (Zadar), Kontrada (Zadar), Partenca (Split), Škrljevo (Škrljevo), Kala (Crikvenica) and Baladur (Opatija). Each of these klapas brings its unique expression and interpretation of klapa music, enriched by the sounds of string instruments.

With the introduction of such an event, the town positions itself as an important destination for cultural tourism, attracting enthusiasts of tradition and authentic experiences.

Economic Impact

The festival will have a direct impact on the local economy, particularly on hospitality establishments, accommodation facilities, and shops. An increased number of guests means higher spending in restaurants, cafes, and souvenir shops, which stimulates the local economy. It also provides an opportunity for small producers and craftsmen to showcase their products, such as indigenous wines, cheeses, and handicrafts.

Additional Features and Accompanying Events

To provide visitors with a richer experience, in addition to the main festival program, accompanying activities have been planned. The organizers have prepared various events that will further complete the weekend in Novi Vinodolski.
