Big folk festival in Polje with Grupa Vigor and Kožne jakne

After the sporting excitement in Šilo, the fun moves to Polje on Saturday, September 6, where a big folk festival is being prepared to mark the town's day, the Nativity of Mary. Starting at 20:00, the square next to the church will turn into a large open-air stage and dance floor. The energetic group Kožne jakne is in charge of warming up the atmosphere, a band known for cultivating the Croatian and ex-YU rock repertoire and their specific expression in the Chakavian dialect, the so-called Ča-val. Their performance will be a perfect overture to the musical spectacle that follows.

The stars of the evening are the members of one of the most popular Croatian entertainment groups – Grupa Vigor. Known for their numerous hits and the incredible energy they transmit to the audience, Vigor guarantees a top-notch party and dancing long into the night. Their concerts are synonymous with a party that is talked about, and a repertoire filled with songs that everyone knows how to sing will create a heated atmosphere in the picturesque square in the town of Polje. An evening filled with positive vibes, song, and socializing is expected, an ideal opportunity for all those looking for good fun and an authentic experience of an island festival. This is an event not to be missed, and guests who wish to stay and experience the charms of this region can look for comfortable accommodation in Polje.

Solemn celebration of the Nativity of Mary with klapa singing and folklore

The central event and the crown of the weekend is certainly the celebration of the feast of the Nativity of Mary, the patron saint of the town, which will be held in Polje on Monday, September 8. The day will begin in a solemn and spiritual tone, with a solemn Holy Mass at 10:30. After the mass, tradition dictates a joint gathering of locals and their guests in the square, where the attendees will be entertained by VIS Petrići, creating a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere of togetherness.

The evening part of the program begins with a second Holy Mass at 19:00, followed by a rich cultural and artistic program in the square in front of the church starting at 20:00. The evening will be opened by the youngest guardians of heritage – the children's folklore group of the Cultural Society "Ive Jelenović" from Dobrinj. Their performance, filled with traditional dances and songs of the Dobrinj area, never fails to delight the audience and shows the importance of passing on cultural heritage to new generations. The performance of these little ones is a symbol of the future and the survival of the rich tradition of this region.

After the folklore introduction, a musical treat for all lovers of klapa singing will follow – a concert by one of the most esteemed Croatian klapas, klapa "Sveti Juraj" of the Croatian Navy. Founded in 2001 with the aim of promoting Croatian culture, this klapa has become a true cultural ambassador of the Armed Forces and all of Croatia. Their repertoire includes traditional Dalmatian songs, patriotic and sacred compositions, and their flawless a cappella performance is breathtaking. The performance of the Croatian Navy klapa in the intimate ambiance of the square in Polje will surely be an emotional and magnificent conclusion to the celebration of the Nativity of Mary, an event that will nourish the soul and round off this extremely rich and eventful weekend in the Municipality of Dobrinj.

Tourism desk

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
