Gorski kotar is known for its rich winter traditions, but this year it brings something entirely new and unique – SNJEŠKOpalj, a grand parade of snowmen that will enliven the streets of Mrkopalj. This unprecedented event will combine the spirit of carnival with a fairytale winter ambiance, creating an unforgettable experience for all generations.

Winter Magic in the Heart of Gorski kotar

Mrkopalj, a place with a long tradition of winter events, will this year become the center of one of the most unusual parades in Croatia. SNJEŠKOpalj will gather participants of all ages, and the only condition for participation is – a snowman mask! Snowmen of all shapes, colors, and sizes will parade down the main streets, bringing joy and delight, while spectators will enjoy a true winter spectacle.

Event Details

The parade will take place on Monday, March 3, 2025, starting at 12 noon. The participants will gather in front of Mrkopalj Elementary School, from where the parade will proceed towards the House of Culture, where a snack and a grand Snowman party will greet the participants. But that's not all – the organizers have also prepared a musical program with an original song and dance "Ples Snješka", and there are plans to shoot an official video clip to make the event even more recognizable in the future.

Children's Smiles at the Center of Attention

A special emphasis has been placed on the participation of children, who, accompanied by teachers, educators, and parents, will gather from various schools and kindergartens of Gorski kotar. Approximately 150 of the youngest participants are expected, who will further beautify this fairytale event with their creativity and playfulness. Every school and kindergarten will have the opportunity to present themselves and send a collective message to those gathered, emphasizing the importance of unity, creativity, and joy that the carnival season brings.

Creativity without Boundaries

One of the main ideas of this event is to encourage creativity – participants are invited to contribute to the diversity and vibrancy of the parade with their costumes. Although the theme is snowman, there are no strict rules – anyone can design their own unique look, using various materials, colors, and styles.

Invitation to Participate

Besides children, the invitation to participate is also extended to adults – individuals and groups. Everyone is welcome to join this cheerful winter spectacle and become part of a tradition that, as the organizers hope, will become a recognizable event of Gorski kotar.

How to Participate?

Registration is not mandatory, but it is desirable so that the organizers can ensure enough space and content for all participants. Participants are invited to gather at the agreed time and bring good spirits, a smile, and – of course – a creative snowman costume.

A New Tradition in Gorski kotar

This unique event contributes to the development of winter events in the region and the promotion of cultural and entertaining content for all generations. Mrkopalj has been nurturing a rich tradition of winter gatherings for years, and SNJEŠKOpalj could become another jewel in the mosaic of winter events. The local community, schools, kindergartens, and carnival enthusiasts have recognized this project as an opportunity to create a new tradition, which will attract an increasing number of participants and visitors every year.

With a joyful atmosphere, snowy scenes, and the indispensable creativity of participants, SNJEŠKOpalj promises to become an unmissable winter event that will further highlight Gorski kotar as a region rich in culture, fun, and the warmth of togetherness.

Tourism desk

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
