The National Speed Skating Oval, also known as the “Ice Ribbon,” is one of Beijing’s most distinctive modern sports arenas. Built as the principal speed skating venue for the 2022 Winter Olympics, the arena can accommodate approximately 12,000 spectators. Its signature appearance comes from a transparent glass façade wrapped by 22 flowing “ice ribbons,” giving the building a strong visual connection to speed and movement on ice.
At the heart of the arena is an extensive ice surface designed for elite competition as well as a variety of ice-sport activities. Modern spectator stands and the internal layout keep attention focused on the rink, while an advanced CO2 refrigeration system allows precise control of the ice surface. Beyond its Olympic role, the venue has retained a multifunctional character and can accommodate sporting competitions, recreational skating, exhibitions and other public activities.
