Although unfavorable weather forecasts and announced rain for the originally planned weekend caused a change in the schedule, the organizers of the popular event Fig Days in the town of Krk made sure that lovers of this Mediterranean delicacy would not be deprived of a unique experience. The entire entertainment, gastronomic, and educational program was simply moved to a new, extended date. Thus, instead of being canceled, this favorite September festival will be held in its full glory from Thursday, September 4, to Sunday, September 7, 2025. This postponement also brings a new opportunity for all those who missed planning their arrival to join the celebration dedicated to the fig, a fruit that has nourished and symbolized the Mediterranean for centuries.

The town of Krk will thus become a center of hedonism, knowledge, and creativity for four days, all under the sign of a fruit that is much more than just a food item – it is part of the cultural heritage, an inspiration to artists, and an indispensable ingredient of top-notch gastronomy. Visitors can expect an extremely rich and carefully designed program that intertwines the best of local tradition and contemporary trends, offering something for everyone, from gourmets and the curious to families with children and lovers of traditional music.

A Gastronomic Rhapsody in the Heart of the Island

The backbone of the event is certainly the gastronomic offer, which will extend throughout the entire duration, specifically from August 22 until September 7. As many as fourteen renowned catering establishments in the area of the town of Krk have prepared special menus where the fig plays the main role. The creativity of their chefs knows no bounds, so the plates will feature imaginative combinations that blend sweet and savory flavors. Visitors will be able to taste everything from appetizers like prosciutto with caramelized figs or cheese with fig jam, to main courses where the fig appears in sauces for meat and fish dishes, all the way to spectacular desserts such as panna cotta with fig syrup, cakes, ice creams, and various other sweets. The participating establishments – Bistro Portella, Casa del Padrone, Cocktail Bar Volsonis, Hotel Marina with its Marina Blue restaurant, the taverns Marija, Pod Prevolt, and Pud Brest, Pizzeria Mala Vrata, the restaurants Karaka, Fidel From the Sea, and Harbour at Hotel Maritime, Restaurant Oliva at Krk Premium Camping Resort, the pastry shop Toš, and Street Food Mezzino at Ježevac Premium Camping Resort – become true oases for exploring the countless faces of this noble fruit.

In parallel with the offer in the restaurants, from Friday, September 5, to Sunday, September 7, a large sales exhibition of fig products will be set up in Veli Park. The exhibition's working hours will be from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, giving visitors ample time to explore the rich offer of local family farms and small producers. At the stands, one can find fresh and dried figs, premium jams and marmalades, thick syrups, and aromatic liqueurs. In addition to food products, the exhibition will also offer natural cosmetics based on figs, known for their nourishing properties, as well as unique souvenirs and handicrafts inspired by fig and fig leaf motifs. This is an ideal opportunity to buy authentic island products and talk with the producers who lovingly preserve the tradition of processing this precious fruit.

Knowledge, Creativity, and Tradition at Your Fingertips

The Fig Days event is not only a feast for the palate but also food for the soul. The educational segment begins on the very first day, Thursday, September 4, at 5:30 PM in the Small Town Hall of Krk. There, the esteemed expert, Assistant Professor Željko Prgomet, PhD, will hold an expert lecture on the topic "Pruning Fig Trees – From Planting to Full Fruition". The lecture is intended for everyone, from experienced growers to complete beginners who are just thinking about planting their own tree. The same expert will also be available on Friday, September 5, from 10:00 AM below Koprivić for individual consultations, where all interested parties can ask specific questions and receive personalized advice. As an incentive, a distribution of fig seedlings will also be organized.

On Friday, September 5, starting at 10:00 AM, a free guided walk through the town of the Frankopan Princes of Krk is organized. This is an excellent opportunity for visitors to learn about the rich history of the town, whose streets were once walked by the powerful Frankopans, leaving behind an impressive architectural and cultural heritage, all with expert guidance.

Tourism desk

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
