The Lukovo in Novska event, held every year from October 16th to 20th, represents one of the most famous harvest festivals steeped in history in Croatia. This year, the rich program brings visitors back to an era of gentlemanly manners, courteous courtship, and romantic encounters from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. More than 150 costumed performers will revive the history of the town of Novska, creating a unique atmosphere in the city park, which transforms into an interactive theater.

Authentic recreation of history

The city park becomes the center of activity, providing visitors with the opportunity to glimpse into the everyday life of the old Novljans. From displays of vintage classrooms, taverns, and households to traditional customs like harvesting and weddings, every corner of the event is infused with historical details. At the market, known as the "men's and women's market," local specialties such as homemade kulen, rakija, and honey can be found. With the aromas of grilled sausages and bacon wafting through the air, visitors will have the chance to enjoy Slavonian culinary delicacies, as a harvest festival without traditional dishes is simply incomplete.

Music and entertainment for all ages

Lukovo in Novska is not just a return to the past, but also a celebration of contemporary culture through a rich music program. On the main stage, located in the city center, popular performers Dalmatino and Matija Cvek will perform on October 18th, while Petar Grašo and Mladen Grdović are announced for October 19th. The conclusion of the event on October 20th will feature performances by Šime Jovanovac and Gentleman, accompanied by the sounds of tamburicas and the rhythms of Slavonian dance that will fill the air.

Unique transport and experience for visitors

Due to the increased interest from visitors, the organizers have secured special transport – the Honey bus from Zagreb departs on October 19th, while the Honey train will run on October 20th from the direction of Vinkovci, making it easier to arrive at the event. This is an opportunity for all interested parties to experience Novska in a way they have never seen before – historical reconstructions, authentic Slavonian dishes, and a rich cultural program.

The uniqueness of Lukovo in Novska has been recognized by numerous sponsors, including the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Ministry of Culture and Media, INA d.d., and Croatian Forests Ltd., who support this event every year. The organizers emphasize that Lukovo is not just an event but a celebration of everything Slavonia represents – a rich history, tradition, and culture, combined with modern elements of entertainment and socializing.

Cultural heritage and Slavonian customs

This year’s edition also places special emphasis on the recreation of rural life, where visitors will be able to witness traditional rituals such as harvesting and weddings, as well as meet historical figures like policeman Tonča and fortune-teller Želja, who bring history to life with their humor and charm. Policemen will be present on the streets, ensuring order and safety, while renowned family producers will showcase the best Slavonian products at the market, providing an authentic experience of past times.

Tourism desk

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
