The Krk Fair, also known as Lovrečeva, celebrated its 500th anniversary this year, making it the longest-running event on the northern Adriatic. Held from August 8 to 10, 2024, the fair attracted thousands of visitors from Croatia and abroad, offering a rich program that combined tradition, history, and contemporary entertainment.

Historical Significance of Lovrečeva

The Krk Fair dates back to 1524, when it was first organized in honor of Saint Lawrence, the patron saint of the city of Krk. Over the centuries, the fair has evolved but has maintained its essence as a place for meetings, trade, and cultural exchange. Today, it represents a unique blend of historical displays, traditional crafts, and modern entertainment.

Program of the 500th Krk Fair

This year's jubilee fair offered a diverse program:

  • Fair of indigenous products: Exhibitors presented local delicacies such as Krk cheese, prosciutto, olive oil, and Žlahtina wine.
  • Display of traditional crafts: Visitors could see demonstrations of old crafts such as blacksmithing, pottery, and weaving.
  • Medieval processions: Historical associations from all over Croatia participated in processions through the town streets, reviving the spirit of past times.
  • Thematic workshops: Workshops for children and adults were organized where they could learn about the history of the city, Glagolitic script, and traditional dances.
  • Music program: Every evening, concerts were held by renowned performers, including performances by Gipsy Kings by André Reyes, Parni Valjak, and Petar Grašo.

Award for Tourist Event of the Year

Thanks to excellent organization and a rich program, the 500th Krk Fair - Lovrečeva won the prestigious award for Tourist Event of the Year. The award was presented on November 22, 2024, in the Crystal Hall of the Kvarner Hotel in Opatija, during the closing evening of the Croatian Tourism Days.
