On Saturday, August 31, 2024, the cycling race :BRUT VUKOVAR 2024. was held, which once again attracted numerous competitors and enthusiasts of extreme sports from all over Croatia and beyond. This event, organized by the Vukovar Triathlon Club in collaboration with the Maraton Vukovar Athletic Club, was also an opportunity to promote the local heritage, natural beauty, and tourist potential of this region.

The race took place on an attractive 53-kilometer-long course that combined various terrains, including unpaved roads, country paths, and winding and steep single-track trails. The route passed through significant historical and cultural sites such as the Vučedol Culture Museum and the Vučedol archaeological site. This area is known for its rich history, and passing through it gave competitors a unique chance to feel the spirit of bygone eras while facing the challenges set by the trail.

The race began at Salaš Goldschmidt, known for its traditional Slavonian cuisine and hospitality. Competitors had the opportunity to taste local delicacies before and after the race, which further contributed to the overall experience. The route then continued along the Danube, offering beautiful views of the river and the surrounding vineyards stretching along the slopes of Srijem. These vineyards, which produce some of the best wines in the region, were one of the most attractive parts of the trail.

Passing through picturesque Srijem vineyards was just one of many challenges faced by the competitors. The trail included several short but steep climbs and dynamic descents, requiring a high level of technical skill and physical fitness. It is precisely this combination of challenging terrains and natural beauty that makes :BRUT Vukovar a unique event in the calendar of cycling races in Croatia.

In addition to the main race, the day before there was also :BRUT CoolTura, an event that connected sports and culture through guided tours of Vukovar's landmarks. This event was an opportunity for participants to get acquainted with the city's historical and cultural wealth, including a visit to the Vučedol Culture Museum, as well as other important sites like the Memorial Area of Ovčara.

The :BRUT CoolTura event also included the Vučedol trail, a shorter race intended for recreationalists and families. This race was an opportunity for all generations to participate in a sporting event while simultaneously learning about the history and culture of Vukovar. Participants were thrilled with the combination of sporting activities and educational content, which gave the event a special significance.

Throughout the event, the organizers ensured the safety of the competitors, including providing emergency medical services and checkpoint stations with drinks, fruit, and energy bars. Every competitor who completed the race received a special 'finisher' medal, and the best were awarded valuable prizes from sponsors.

:BRUT Vukovar 2024. was more than just a regular cycling race; it was an event that combined sports, history, culture, and tourism, providing participants with an unforgettable experience in the heart of Slavonia and Srijem.

Tourism desk

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
