Death Cab for Cutie announces 2027 North American tour: from Honolulu to the finale in Asheville
Death Cab for Cutie will extend the world tour supporting the album I Built You A Tower with a new series of concerts in North America during 2027. According to the band's official announcement of September 17, 2026, the first concert of the new year will take place on January 19 at Neal S. Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, followed by an almost two-month break before the start of the intensive continental leg of the tour. The main spring leg begins on March 11 in Nashville and ends on April 16 in Asheville, North Carolina. In just over five weeks, the band will visit a large part of the United States and several Canadian cities, including Montreal, Ottawa and Niagara Falls. The announcement therefore confirms that the promotional cycle for the band's eleventh studio album will continue well into 2027, following European, Japanese, Australian and American performances scheduled through the end of 2026.
Presale for most of the newly announced concerts begins on Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at 10 a.m. local venue time, the band announced. Additional local and venue presales are scheduled for September 24, while general sales begin on Friday, September 25 at 10 a.m. local time. Ticketmaster data for Honolulu and Asheville confirm the same basic sales schedule, with some additional presale programs depending on the promoter and venue. Austin is the exception: the band stated that information about the venue and the start of ticket sales for that concert will be announced later in 2026. Because of different time zones and individual venue rules, interested attendees should check the local sales time and the official pages for the specific concert.
Honolulu opens 2027, while the tour's real rhythm begins in Nashville
The 2027 schedule is divided into two clearly distinct parts. The first is a standalone concert in Honolulu on January 19, which Ticketmaster lists for 8 p.m. Hawaii time at Neal S. Blaisdell Arena. After that performance, the band will not immediately continue on the continent, but will return to the stage as part of this North American series on March 11 in Nashville. From that point onward, concerts are scheduled much more densely, often only one or two days apart, making the spring portion the main touring leg. According to the published schedule, Death Cab for Cutie will then travel through the southern and southeastern United States, Texas, the Great Lakes region, eastern Canada, New England and the northeastern United States. The final concert is scheduled for April 16 at ExploreAsheville.com Arena within the Harrah's Cherokee Center complex in Asheville.
Two consecutive nights in Atlanta and Boston stand out in particular. The band will perform at The Eastern in Atlanta on March 14 and 15, and at MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston on April 7 and 8. In New York, a concert is scheduled for April 13 at Radio City Music Hall, one of Manhattan's most recognizable concert venues. The Canadian part of the schedule includes Niagara Falls, Ontario on April 3, Ottawa on April 4 and Montreal on April 5, after which the tour returns to the United States. Such a schedule shows that the new cycle is not limited only to the largest American markets, but combines arenas, theaters, amphitheaters and mid-sized concert venues across a series of cities.
Announced dates of the North American tour

Swapmeet accompanies the band on the continental leg
Swapmeet has been announced as the opening act for most of the spring concerts. In the schedule accompanying the official announcement, the designation for Swapmeet is attached to dates from Nashville onward, while the Honolulu concert does not list that support. The new North American block will therefore have a shared program framework throughout almost the entire continental portion. Organizers of individual concerts have already begun publishing details: for example, Ticketmaster lists Death Cab for Cutie and Swapmeet in the event lineup for the Asheville finale, while the venue's official website confirms the April 16 date and an 8 p.m. concert start. As the tour approaches, additional operational details concerning schedules, entry and individual venue rules may be announced, so these may vary from city to city.
The announcement of the North American dates comes while Death Cab for Cutie is still moving through an extensive 2026 schedule. According to the band's official announcement, September includes concerts in the United Kingdom and continental Europe, including Manchester, Edinburgh, Gateshead, Bristol, London, Bexhill, Utrecht, Brussels, Berlin and Paris. Performances in Osaka and Tokyo follow in November, along with Australian concerts in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, while a performance in Chicago is scheduled for November 21. Pool Kids, Dan the Automator, Acopia and Sean Solomon are listed as support for certain parts of 2026, depending on the market and date. The new spring 2027 block therefore represents a continuation of the already active world tour rather than a separate promotional project.
The tour supports the album I Built You A Tower
At the center of the current concert cycle is I Built You A Tower, Death Cab for Cutie's eleventh studio album, released on June 5, 2026 by ANTI- Records. According to the record label, the album was recorded at Animal Rites studio in Los Angeles and in the band members' home studios in Seattle, Bellingham, Los Angeles and Portland. John Congleton served as producer and recording engineer, and according to ANTI-'s announcement, the material was assembled from approximately three weeks of studio sessions. The release also marked the group's return to independent record-label infrastructure after two decades of association with Atlantic Records. Earlier in 2026, ANTI- announced that the band had joined its artist roster, opening a new chapter in a career spanning almost three decades.
The record label describes the album as a work focused on confronting past versions of oneself and finding a path toward the future, while the band itself emphasized themes of loss, repression and the later confrontation with grief in the album announcement. The album contains 11 songs, including Full of Stars, Punching the Flowers, Stone Over Water, Riptides, The Flavor of Metal and two title tracks designated as parts "(a)" and "(b)". The first single, Riptides, was introduced in March, several months before the album's release. Promotion continued through music videos, television appearances and summer concerts, while the new tour announcement shows that the band intends to keep the album at the center of its concert repertoire throughout the coming year as well. The tour name on Ticketmaster is also listed as I Built You A Tower Tour.
New video for Stone Over Water arrives with the tour announcement
At the same time as the 2027 dates were announced, the band unveiled a new animated music video for the song Stone Over Water. According to the official announcement, the video was animated by Sean Solomon, a musician and artist who is also associated with the ANTI- record label. The tour announcement was thus connected with the continued promotion of the current album rather than being presented merely as a series of new concert dates. Solomon will also appear with the band as a support act at the separately announced Chicago concert on November 21, 2026, while Swapmeet is scheduled for that role on the spring 2027 North American leg. Releasing the new video immediately before ticket sales begin further links the album's digital promotion with the concert cycle.
Death Cab for Cutie was formed in 1997 in Bellingham, Washington, according to ANTI-'s official band biography. The group gained broader international recognition with the 2003 album Transatlanticism, while two years later the album Plans further expanded their audience. The current lineup consists of Benjamin Gibbard, Nicholas Harmer, Jason McGerr, Dave Depper and Zac Rae. In recent years, the band has simultaneously marked important anniversaries of earlier releases and worked on new material, which preceded the creation of I Built You A Tower. In that context, the 2027 tour combines a catalog spanning almost three decades with the band's newest recording phase.
Ticket sales begin September 23, with local differences
For audiences planning to attend one of the concerts, the most important sales dates are between September 23 and 25, 2026. The band's official announcement states that presale begins on September 23 at 10 a.m. local time, while general sales begin on September 25 at the same time. Ticketmaster for Asheville, for example, lists the artist presale beginning September 23 at 10 a.m. Eastern Time, additional presales on September 24 and general sales on September 25 at 10 a.m. For Honolulu, the schedule is adjusted to Hawaii time, likewise beginning with the artist presale on September 23 at 10 a.m. and general sales on September 25 at 10 a.m. Availability, ticket limits and any additional presale categories depend on the event, so details may vary between cities.
Austin is currently subject to a special arrangement. In the official announcement, the band stated that all tickets for that concert will go on sale on a date to be determined later in 2026 and that the venue has not yet been confirmed. This means Austin is not part of the immediate sales wave beginning September 23, although the concert is included in the itinerary for March 23, 2027. For the other cities, a range of venues has already been confirmed, from theaters such as Tennessee Theatre and Saenger Theatre to larger complexes such as Mohegan Sun Arena and Radio City Music Hall. The Asheville finale has also been confirmed on the Harrah's Cherokee Center website, where the concert is announced for Friday, April 16, 2027.
The new schedule therefore extends Death Cab for Cutie's tour through at least the first four months of 2027 and brings a concentrated series of spring performances following the January concert in Hawaii. For now, there is no official information about additional North American dates after Asheville, making April 16 the last confirmed date of this leg. Because some logistical information for Austin remains open, the schedule is not yet completely finalized in every detail. However, the main structure of the tour, the start of ticket sales and most venues have been confirmed through the band's official announcement, venue websites and the ticketing platform. Death Cab for Cutie has therefore already established, in September 2026, the framework for one of its key concert series of the following year.
