Neurosis announce major U.S. tour following comeback album "An Undying Love for a Burning World"
American band Neurosis, one of the most influential names in experimental metal and post-metal, has announced a new series of concerts in the United States that will run from October 2026 through early January 2027. The announcement comes several months after the band's unexpected return with the album "An Undying Love for a Burning World", Neurosis' first studio release in ten years. According to the schedule published on September 9 as part of the band's official promotional campaign, the new run of shows includes San Francisco, Brooklyn, Chicago, Portland, Seattle, Boston and Los Angeles. Two nights in San Francisco are already sold out, while general ticket sales for most of the newly confirmed dates are scheduled to begin on September 11 at 10 a.m. local time. The U.S. concert plan follows Neurosis' return to the stage during the summer of 2026, and its continuation will also take the band to Europe, where they have been confirmed for Roadburn 2027 in Tilburg, the Netherlands.
From San Francisco to Los Angeles: confirmed dates through early 2027
The first confirmed shows will take place on October 16 and 17 at The Fillmore in San Francisco, a city of particular importance to the band's history, as Neurosis was formed in Oakland, California. According to information from the promotional announcement shared by Earsplit Compound and several music media outlets, both concerts at The Fillmore are already sold out. Terry Gross has been announced as the guest for the first night, while Kowloon Walled City is expected to appear on the second night. Neurosis will then head to the U.S. East Coast, where two nights have been booked at Warsaw in Brooklyn on October 30 and 31. Uniform has been announced for the first Brooklyn concert and Primitive Man for the second, meaning that the tour program draws on performers associated with experimental, noise, sludge and extreme metal.
In November, the schedule becomes even busier. Neurosis will perform at Metro in Chicago on November 21 and 22, with Mr. Phylzzz announced for the first night and Primitive Man returning for the second. Two concerts at Revolution Hall in Portland will follow on November 27 and 28. According to the published schedule, Great Falls and Trigger Object will perform alongside the band on those nights, while some additional guests had not yet been named at the time of the announcement. Just one day later, on November 29, the tour moves to Seattle, where a concert at Showbox SODO has been confirmed, also with Great Falls and additional performers yet to be announced.
The band will also perform in Boston on December 12 as part of Converge's Saddest Day at Roadrunner. Converge, Coalesce and other performers have been announced on the same bill, so this date is not a typical standalone tour concert but part of a larger concert event. The U.S. cycle concludes on January 2, 2027, with a performance at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, for which additional guests had not been confirmed at the time of the announcement. Such a schedule, featuring several two-night residencies in selected cities instead of a long series of daily performances, points to a carefully measured return to concert life after a multi-year break.
A return the band does not call a reunion
In March 2026, Neurosis released "An Undying Love for a Burning World", their first new album since 2016's "Fires Within Fires". The band's official announcement described the return as a continuation of their work rather than a traditional reunion. The members explicitly stated that, in their view, the band had never formally broken up, even though it had not released new music or performed regularly for years. The new phase is therefore presented as a continuation of a long artistic development, but under changed circumstances and with a changed lineup. The album was released without a lengthy promotional buildup, further reinforcing the impression of the sudden return of one of the most important groups in American heavy music of recent decades.
On the new album, Neurosis consists of Steve Von Till on guitar and vocals, Jason Roeder on drums, Dave Edwardson on bass guitar, Noah Landis on keyboards, and Aaron Turner on guitar and vocals. Turner, known for his work with Sumac and Isis as well as numerous other projects, joined the group after a period in which its future had been uncertain. In the official March announcement, the band emphasized that Turner had actively participated in writing and contributing new ideas from the very beginning and that his energy naturally fit into their established way of working. Turner, for his part, stated that the music of Neurosis had profoundly shaped him more than thirty years ago and that joining the band represented an exceptionally important personal and creative moment for him.
The lineup change is particularly significant because "An Undying Love for a Burning World" is the first Neurosis album without co-founder Scott Kelly. In August 2022, Kelly publicly admitted to emotionally, financially, verbally and physically abusing his wife and children and announced his retirement from professional music. In a response published after his admission, the other members of Neurosis stated that they had in fact ended their collaboration with Kelly in late 2019, after learning of the severe abuse of his family, but that they had not made that information public at the time out of respect for the family's wish for privacy. The new album is therefore not only a return after a ten-year gap between records, but also the first major studio chapter in a substantially altered constellation. In that context, Turner has not been presented as a temporary live replacement, but as an active member participating in the creation of new material and the performance of songs on stage.
"An Undying Love for a Burning World" was recorded in Seattle
According to the band's official information, the new album was recorded by producer and engineer Scott Evans, known for working with artists such as Kowloon Walled City, Sumac and Great Falls. Recording took place over three weekends at Studio Litho in Seattle, after which the material was mixed at Evans' Antisleep Audio studio in Oakland. The band stated that the mix was completed in just three days, approximately six weeks before the album's release. Such a short period between the completion of production and the release further explains why the record arrived without the usual months-long campaign. The album was released through Neurot Recordings, a label that has long been associated with the band.
The release contains eight tracks: "We Are Torn Wide Open", "Mirror Deep", "First Red Rays", "Blind", "Seething And Scattered", "Untethered", "In The Waiting Hours" and "Last Night". The album's official presentation emphasizes themes of tension, isolation, social anxiety, the climate crisis and the need for catharsis, fitting with Neurosis' long-standing interest in combining personal experience, collective unease and physically intense music. The band described its return as a response to the need to once again use music as a form of emotional release and collective creation. The critical response was strong: Pitchfork included the album among the notable releases of 2026 and awarded it the Best New Music designation, while Consequence highlighted it near the beginning of the second half of the year as one of the most important albums of 2026 up to that point.
For Neurosis, such a reception is important because the band is returning to the contemporary live and recording scene with a very long legacy. Since the late 1980s and especially throughout the 1990s, the group developed a sound that connected hardcore punk, metal, industrial, ambient music, drone and experimental approaches. Over the years, that influence became recognizable far beyond their own discography, and numerous younger artists from post-metal, sludge and experimental rock have openly cited Neurosis as an important reference. For that reason, the new tour is significant not only as promotion for a single album, but also as the re-establishment of the band as an active live unit after a long absence.
First concert in almost seven years held in Montana
The live return took place during the summer at the Fire in the Mountains festival in an area associated with the Blackfeet Nation in Montana. In March, the band announced the performance as its first concert in seven years, and the return was organized at the invitation of the Firekeeper Alliance. According to information from Neurosis, it is a nonprofit organization working to reduce suicide rates among members of the Blackfeet Nation and other Indigenous communities in Montana. Steve Von Till, who serves on the organization's board, explained at the time that he considered such a setting a particularly appropriate place for the band's return. He emphasized the role of heavy music in building community and confronting experiences of grief, loss and trauma.
The collaboration did not end with the festival performance. Neurosis and the Firekeeper Alliance also presented a short film connected to the tracks "We Are Torn Wide Open" and "Mirror Deep", filmed in June 2026 on Blackfeet Nation land. According to the band's announcement, filmmakers Bobby Cochran and Jason Nix, along with students from the Heavy Music Symposium program, participated in the project. A collaborative T-shirt was also released, with proceeds intended to raise funds for the work of the Firekeeper Alliance. In this way, Neurosis' return also gained a social dimension that goes beyond the standard cycle of promoting a new album and tour.
Roadburn 2027 brings the European continuation of the return
Following the U.S. dates, the band will perform again in Europe in April 2027 at the Roadburn festival in Tilburg, the Netherlands. Roadburn organizers confirmed on August 11 that Neurosis will perform two sets at the festival, while details of their content will be announced later. Schedules accompanying the announcement of the U.S. tour list April 17, 2027, as one of the confirmed Roadburn dates. The festival presented the band's return as an especially important event because of the long-standing relationship between Neurosis and Roadburn and the band's influence on the heavy, experimental and genre-open music scene.
In the official announcement, Steve Von Till described Roadburn as one of the few places that, in his view, naturally connects with the music of Neurosis. He emphasized the sense of community between performers and the audience and portrayed the festival as a space where the boundary between stage and crowd is more easily dissolved. The organizers responded in a similar tone, stating that it was difficult to imagine a more appropriate venue for the band's European live return. As early as August 18, Roadburn also announced new performers for the 2027 edition, including Emma Ruth Rundle, Sadness and Trhä, noting that interest following the Neurosis announcement had been exceptionally high.
A selective tour instead of a traditional months-long marathon
Although the new series of U.S. performances can be described as Neurosis' largest concert cycle since their return, the schedule remains considerably more selective than a typical tour by a major rock or metal band. Instead of daily travel through dozens of cities, the current plan includes concentrated performances in several key American music centers. San Francisco, Brooklyn, Chicago and Portland each received two consecutive nights, while Seattle, Boston and Los Angeles are currently represented by single dates. Such a model allows the band to return to audiences without the intensity that a months-long schedule without major breaks would require.
At the same time, the fact that promotional materials explicitly mention the possibility of additional concert announcements indicates that the current schedule may not be final. As of September 11, 2026, the listed U.S. dates and Roadburn have been officially confirmed, while additional cities and possible other European performances have not been officially announced. For now, it is clear that Neurosis is not limiting its return to a one-off festival performance or a short series of concerts, but is once again building an active live schedule. The sold-out nights in San Francisco and the announcement of a double performance at Roadburn show that audience interest in the band's new phase remains strong even after a long absence from the stage.
