Listing them does not mean that all of them will be performed on July 17, but it shows the repertoire context surrounding this season. Rieu's main stage is set up in Vrijthof Square, which is transformed into a fenced outdoor concert venue during the event.
The theater is connected with the concert day through a terrace arrangement that begins at 18:30 on July 17. Such a package allows guests to have dinner on the terrace and follow the concert from the hospitality area. From some terraces, the view toward the stage may be restricted, so the program is also shown on large screens placed around the square. The underground Q-Park Vrijthof garage remains accessible by a modified route via Keizer Karelplein and Sint Servaasklooster, but city garages may fill up quickly. Drivers should expect diversions, traffic wardens and a slower departure after the concert. The taxi stand at Vrijthof is not in operation during the closure; the replacement location is at Markt.
Drop-off points for people with reduced mobility are provided near the traffic center at Keizer Karelplein or close to the museum at Vrijthof. The shortest pedestrian routes for wheelchair users lead via Witmakersstraat, Kapoenstraat, St Jacobstraat or Sint Servaasklooster.
Arriving by train and bus
Maastricht is connected by rail and bus with cities in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Trains arrive from the direction of Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Roermond and Sittard-Geleen, as well as from Heerlen, Valkenburg and Aachen. From the south, there are connections from the direction of Eijsden, Visé and Liège. Bus line 350 connects the Aachen area with Maastricht.
From June 24 to July 23, bus lines 3, 4 and 7 operate on a modified route via Statensingel. The stops Markt, Vrijthof, Bouillonstraat, Tongersestraat, Calvariestraat, Kommel and Helmstraat are not in regular use during that period. Travelers should check the current journey planner before departure and allow additional time for walking from the replacement stop.
Additional buses are scheduled for the return journey to P+R Maastricht Noord after the concert. They depart from the Markt/Boschstraat stop every 15 minutes from 23:50 until 1:35. This is a useful option for drivers who want to avoid entering the innermost city center by car.
Arriving by bicycle or on foot
Bicycles may not be left in Vrijthof itself or in Leliestraat on event days. Bicycle parking facilities are available to visitors at Kesselskade, Markt and the main railway station, as well as in additional zones at Mosae Forum, Keizer Karelplein and De Boompjes in Stadspark. On concert days, the Kesselskade parking facility remains open until no later than 1:30, or until it has emptied.
Walking from the center of Maastricht is the simplest way to approach the square after the traffic closures. Vrijthof is located in the heart of the historic center, close to the main squares, restaurants and pedestrian streets. Visitors arriving for the first time may find it useful to mark their return point in advance, especially if they are heading to the railway station, a garage or a bus stop after the concert.
What to see in Maastricht before the concert
Vrijthof is the largest square in Maastricht and a good starting point for a walk through the historic center. Sint-Servaasbasiliek and the red tower of Sint-Janskerk stand on its western edge, while Markt square, old streets, restaurants and terraces are only a short walk away.
It is useful to arrive earlier, walk between Vrijthof and Markt and return toward the entrance before the largest wave of visitors. A longer stay can include the city walls, Jekerkwartier and the bank of the River Maas. The late afternoon should not be overloaded with plans, because traffic measures begin before the program.
Tickets for this event are in demand. Along with obtaining them, it is equally important to arrange departure logistics in advance, especially when a return train, night bus or car collection depends on an ending time that has not been precisely announced.
