Dekmantel in Amsterdamse Bos: electronic music as a journey through the forest

Dekmantel returns to Amsterdamse Bos on 1 August 2026 with a programme that does not treat electronic music as a single closed scene. Saturday connects house, techno, jungle, dubstep, UK bass, breaks, experimental electronica and live hardware performances. Instead of one dominant stage and a series of short festival sets, the programme is distributed across several separate spaces, each with its own sound, pace and audience.

The festival was launched in 2013, and the forest site in Amstelveen has remained its main base. The 2026 edition runs from 29 July to 2 August and includes more than 160 artists at locations in the forest and across Amsterdam. For visitors with a Saturday day ticket, the most important information is that the festival grounds open at 14:00. The morning programme Dekmantel At Dawn, which takes place before the regular opening, is available only to holders of multi-day festival wristbands.

Tickets for this event are in demand. When choosing, it is important to distinguish carefully between a day ticket, a multi-day wristband, the separate night programme and camping, as they do not include the same range of content.

What makes Dekmantel different from similar festivals

Dekmantel's identity is based on selection, not only on the size of the names. On the same day, pioneers of dance music, modular performers, genre-fluid DJs and new artists who connect club music with experimentation come together. The programme often uses B2B formats, special live projects and performances conceived specifically for a particular stage.

This is clearly visible in Saturday's schedule. The Loop offers a warmer and more open range of house, grooves and broadly conceived festival sets. UFO and RADAR lean towards harder, more precise or more experimental techno. Greenhouse and The Nest create more room for bass music, dubstep, jungle, breaks and sounds linked to sound-system culture. UFO II often attracts an audience looking for more detailed, unpredictable and rhythmically complex sets.

Dekmantel is therefore not a festival where it is enough to choose one stage and remain there until the end of the day. The most interesting experience emerges from moving between zones: from a house set on a meadow to a live performance beneath the treetops and a finale accompanied by jungle or bass.

Saturday's programme and artists worth including in the plan

The published Saturday schedule offers several clear programme routes. Visitors who want to begin more slowly can head towards The Loop, while fans of techno, modular systems and more demanding rhythmic structures can check the RADAR and UFO zones earlier. For deep bass and British club roots, Greenhouse and The Nest are essential.

• Makam presents The Archive live performs at The Loop from 16:00 to 17:30. Guy Blanken, under the name Makam, starts from house but expands it towards psychedelic, percussive and hypnotic structures.
• AMORAL is on the RADAR stage from 18:00 to 19:00. Her approach to techno is based on continuous movement, precise layered mixing and euphoric tension.
• SASS, namely Moxie, Peach, Saoirse and Shanti Celeste, take over The Loop from 19:30 to 23:00. Their joint set may move through house, techno, UK garage, breaks, electro and bass.
• Mia Koden performs in Greenhouse from 19:30 to 22:00. Her sets connect dubstep, 2-step, breaks, techno and a powerful percussive low end.
• upsammy is at UFO II from 21:00 to 23:00, with a combination of fast techno, drum and bass sounds and intricately shaped electronic textures.
• Shy FX & Tasha close The Nest from 21:30 to 23:00. The meeting of a jungle pioneer and a contemporary British selector combines the history of sound-system culture with current techno, dubstep and breakbeat sounds.

Saturday's programme also includes LSD Live, a project consisting of Function, Luke Slater and Steve Bicknell, followed by Nørbak & Surgeon Live, Batu, CCL, JASSS & Vlada, aya Live, Polygonia and Rene Wise. Together, they cover a broad arc from hypnotic and industrial techno to post-club electronica, polyrhythms and UK bass approaches. Overlaps are unavoidable. It is a good idea to choose several priorities and leave room for discovery between them.

Particular attention should be paid to the difference between the daytime and morning programmes. Colin Benders performs at RADAR as part of At Dawn from 11:30 to 13:30, but that section is not included in the Saturday day ticket. Day visitors enter from 14:00, so this performance should not be included in their personal schedule.

Amsterdamse Bos is not merely a backdrop

Amsterdamse Bos is located in Amstelveen, south of central Amsterdam. It is a landscaped park covering approximately 1,000 hectares, developed from the 1930s onward as a major urban green area. Meadows, forest passages, bodies of water and high treetops allow the festival zones to feel separate even though they are part of the same grounds.

The space itself changes how the music is experienced. Moving between stages is not simply a walk through a fenced corridor, but a journey between open meadows, shaded paths and acoustically separated areas. Daylight gives earlier sets a more open character, while the later hours intensify the contrast between the stages and the forest.

The address of the main entrance is Nieuwe Meerlaan 1, Amstelveen. Since the grounds are large, time should be allowed for security checks, orientation and walking between zones. Arriving immediately before the most important performance carries the risk that part of the set will be missed at the entrance or on the way through the festival.

It is worth securing tickets in good time, but it is equally important to arrange transport in advance. Amsterdamse Bos is not located in the city's historic centre, and the travel plan should be adapted to festival traffic.

How to get to the festival

Cycling is one of the most practical options for visitors staying in Amsterdam or the surrounding area. The ride from Amsterdam Zuid takes approximately 20 minutes, and from Amsterdam Centraal around 45 minutes. Designated bicycle racks are available at the site, and bicycles left outside the intended parking area may be removed. An additional rule applies to electric bicycles: the battery may not be brought onto the festival grounds or stored in a locker.

A shuttle service is also organised from Amsterdam Amstel station. The journey to the festival takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes, and buses operate between 10:30 and 00:30. This option is practical for the return journey, when crowds form around the exits.

It is possible to travel by public transport via Schiphol Airport and continue by bus towards the Nieuwe Meerlaan area. Since routes and departure times may change, the journey should be checked immediately before travelling.

Arriving by car is not recommended. Parking is limited, and the vehicle area is located outside the immediate festival grounds. From the car park to the main entrance, approximately 20 minutes of walking should be expected. If a car is necessary, carpooling reduces the number of vehicles and simplifies arrival.

Day, multi-day and night tickets

Dekmantel 2026 is not one uninterrupted event at a single location. The programme begins with city concerts, continues with a three-day section in Amsterdamse Bos and expands into night programmes in clubs. The ticket name therefore determines more than the date alone.

A Saturday day ticket allows entry to Amsterdamse Bos from 14:00 and covers the daytime programme until the end of the festival day. It does not include At Dawn. Multi-day wristbands cover different combinations of days, and access to the morning programme is linked to the festival weekend package. The five-day wristband has the broadest scope and includes access to night venues, while holders of other ticket types may require a separate ticket for individual night programmes.

At Night continues the festival programme in venues such as Radion, Garage Noord and ISO. These events have their own entry rules and age restrictions depending on the venue. A ticket for Amsterdamse Bos is not automatically valid for a club after the daytime programme.

Camping is a separate item. The festival campsite is located beside Amsterdamse Bos, approximately a 15-minute walk from the grounds, and offers spaces for visitors' own tents as well as pre-pitched accommodation units. A day ticket by itself does not include camping.

Entry, age restriction and items that may be brought in

The minimum age for entry to the forest section of the festival is 18, so visitors should bring a valid identification document. Lockers, first aid and a Social Safety Hub are available on the grounds. Visitors can contact the hub if they need support, a quieter space or assistance in a situation that makes them feel unsafe.

The entry rules should be checked before packing. Visitors may bring their own reusable bottle if it is empty. Personal food and drinks, perfume bottles, folding and regular umbrellas, and pressurised sprays are not permitted. Sunscreen may be brought in if the packaging is unopened and not pressurised. Professional cameras are not permitted, and visitors are encouraged to film less on the dance floor and pay more attention to the performance.

Considering the length of the programme and the volume of several stages, hearing protection should be part of the basic equipment. Earplugs are also available on the festival grounds. Comfortable footwear is likewise more important than at a club event: the surface includes grass, soil and longer routes between stages.

Food, rest and accessibility

All food served at the festival is vegetarian. Vegan, gluten-free and nut-free options are also available, but the complete absence of allergen traces cannot be guaranteed. People with serious allergies should check the available options in advance and should not rely solely on the label of an individual dish.

The festival has a central toilet area, including an accessible toilet, and a first-aid area near the entrance. Most stages have very little height difference in relation to the surrounding ground, but the forest surface may present a challenge to people with reduced mobility. Visitors who require accessible parking or additional assistance are advised to make arrangements before arriving.

A lower-stimulation area is located beside the Social Safety Hub. It is useful for anyone who needs a short break after several hours of loud music.

What first-time visitors can expect

The audience consists of dedicated followers of electronic music, record collectors, club visitors and travellers who combine the festival with a stay in Amsterdam. Knowing every artist is not a prerequisite. Dekmantel is particularly suitable for listeners who are prepared to leave their predetermined genre zone and devote part of the day to exploration.

A first visit can be intense because important performances often overlap. The best plan is not an attempt to see everything, but a combination of three or four priorities and several open periods. For example, the day can begin with Makam at The Loop, continue with techno at RADAR, move towards the bass programme in Greenhouse and end with SASS, upsammy or Shy FX & Tasha. Such a route demonstrates the festival's breadth without turning the visit into a race between stages.
