Dekmantel at Paradiso: electronic music created in front of the audience
On July 30, 2026, Dekmantel enters Paradiso with a program that is not conceived as a sequence of traditional DJ performances. At the center of the evening is STOOR Live, Speedy J's collective format in which music is assembled, dismantled, and rebuilt live. Aurora Halal, Azu Tiwaline, Barker, Carrier, and Speedy J work simultaneously, listen to one another, and react without a set prepared in advance. The result is a seven-hour audiovisual flow whose development cannot be fully predicted before it begins.
Doors open at 17:00 at Paradiso, located at Weteringschans 6-8 in Amsterdam. The main program also begins at 17:00, and admission closes at 23:59. The event is intended for people aged 18 and over. This is an important detail for visitors accustomed to club nights that begin late: here, the experience develops from the late afternoon, and it is worth arriving at the beginning.

Why Paradiso is an important part of the concept
The twelfth edition of Dekmantel runs from July 29 to August 2 at several locations in Amsterdam and brings together more than 160 performing artists. The main weekend takes place in Amsterdamse Bos, but the 2026 edition expands the festival's urban dimension through the "Into The City" concept. For the first time, Paradiso and Melkweg become part of a Thursday devoted to performances in city venues.
Paradiso is therefore not merely an indoor replacement for a festival stage. Its architecture and club history are integrated into the evening. Here, STOOR is given space for a long, uninterrupted improvisational process, while the audience follows the changes in sound and image almost as if watching a studio operating openly in front of spectators.
Paradiso represents a different point in the festival program: an urban event with one clearly defined audiovisual idea.
STOOR Live: a shared studio instead of alternating performers
STOOR was launched by Speedy J, one of the key Dutch artists in the development of European techno. The format differs from a conventional festival schedule because the main participants do not appear one after another with separate sets. They share the stage, equipment, and time. One performer's rhythmic idea can become the basis for another's texture, and the direction of the performance can change within a few minutes.
Performing in the main hall are:
- Speedy J - founder and leader of the STOOR format.
- Aurora Halal - a producer and DJ known for her psychedelic and metallic approach to hardware-based live performance.
- Azu Tiwaline - an artist who connects North African rhythms, dub space, and ritual bass structures.
- Barker - a British artist based in Berlin, focused on harmony, ambience, and dance energy beyond traditional techno patterns.
- Carrier - Guy Brewer's project, combining textured techno, experimental production, and experience from drum and bass.
These are not five announced solo sets. Dekmantel describes the performance as a shared, hybrid organism shaped by listening and intuition. The audience will not be able to identify in advance the moment when one performer ends and another begins. This uncertainty is precisely the main difference between STOOR and a standard festival program.
The visual layer is not decoration added to finished music. The stage design, lighting, and team of video artists are led by Karl Klomp. Robotic cameras, video processing, and an LED object combine the performers' movements, equipment, and graphic interventions into an image that changes together with the sound. For that reason, arriving from the very beginning is more important than at an evening made up of short, interchangeable sets.
SnPLO in the Basement
While STOOR Live develops in the main hall, the Basement is taken over by SnPLO, a joint project by SnP 500 and PLO Man. Their work moves between dubby techno, loops, and the gradual alteration of small sonic elements. Instead of a rapid series of climaxes, the emphasis is on how repetition is deformed, deepened, and changes the perception of time.
The division of the venue gives the evening two connected perspectives. The main hall offers a large collective improvisation by five artists accompanied by strong visual direction. The Basement is a more intimate counterpoint in which SnPLO builds a performance around loops, hardware, and slow mutations. Published information confirms the program's starting time and the allocation of acts between the rooms, but does not break the STOOR performance down into individual time slots, which is consistent with its continuous character.
Paradiso as the evening's instrument
Paradiso operates in a former church building near Leidseplein. The building opened in 1880 for Vrije Gemeente, and the Paradiso cultural center began operating in 1968. The venue became a concert hall, club, and cultural institution, while its club program developed more strongly from the early 1980s onward.
The main hall accommodates around 1,500 people. The high ceiling, balconies, and former sacred geometry create a more vertical feeling than in a low industrial club. A position near the stage provides a view of the hardware and the performers' communication, while a more distant point or the balcony, if open, may provide a better overview of the scenography and LED object.
STOOR and Paradiso already share a history through programs held during Amsterdam Dance Event and separate spring editions. What is new is the connection with Dekmantel's curatorial framework and the lineup selected for "Into The City".
It is worth securing tickets in good time.
What kind of audience and atmosphere to expect
This is a program for an audience that wants to remain engaged with the development of the music, rather than merely wait for several familiar tracks. STOOR can begin with a restrained texture, move into dense techno, and then dismantle the rhythm again. Azu Tiwaline can open up space through dub and polyrhythm, Barker through harmony, Aurora Halal through psychedelic tension, and Carrier through precise, physical percussion. Speedy J connects these languages without needing to flatten them into a single style.
First-time visitors should expect an experience that requires patience. There is no guarantee that every moment will be directed toward a dance-floor climax. The value lies in observing how the performers resolve transitions, accept unexpected sounds, and transform them into a new direction. At the same time, this is not a seated experimental concert: the lineup is deeply connected to techno, bass music, ambient music, and club culture.
Paradiso warns that strobe lighting and smoke effects are used at many concerts and club nights. People who are sensitive to such stimuli should take this into account. A quiet space is not guaranteed at every event, so upon entering it is best to ask the staff what options are available that evening.
Tickets, wristbands, and access to the venues
The ticket listed for this event is valid for one day and applies to the program at Paradiso. Multi-day festival wristbands are also available as part of the wider Dekmantel festival. Four-day and five-day wristbands include access to the programs at Melkweg and Paradiso on July 30. Visitors with other ticket categories need a separate ticket for each individual city venue.
Admission to Paradiso should not automatically be interpreted as access to the parallel program at Melkweg, the weekend in Amsterdamse Bos, or the nighttime venues. Each segment has its own admission system. No special VIP areas or VIP benefits for this program are listed in the published information.
Before departure, it is useful to check:
- An identification document, because the event is marked as 18+.
- The door-opening time - the program begins as early as 17:00.
- The ticket or wristband category and whether it includes Paradiso.
- The size of the bag - bags up to approximately A4 size and around 10 centimeters thick are permitted.
- The payment method - orders at Paradiso can be paid for by card or contactless methods.
Lockers can be rented at Paradiso and may be opened several times during the visit. Large bags should not be brought because items larger than the permitted size are not allowed into the venue. For a program lasting several hours, it is practical to store a jacket and belongings that are not needed on the dance floor.
Getting to Paradiso
Paradiso is located next to Leidseplein and near Museumplein. From Amsterdam Centraal and Amsterdam Zuid station, the simplest option is metro line 52 to Vijzelgracht station, followed by a few minutes on foot. From Amsterdam Centraal toward Leidseplein, tram lines 2, 11, and 12 operate, while line 12 also connects Amsterdam Amstel with this area.
A bicycle is practical for visitors staying in the city. Near Leidseplein, there is a free, supervised underground bicycle garage that operates continuously. The bicycle should be left in a designated space, not beside a random fence or passageway.
Arriving by car is the least straightforward option. Paradiso does not have its own parking facility, traffic in the city center is heavy, and nearby parking is limited. For travelers arriving from outside the city, a combination of a P+R location and metro line 52 is more sensible. P+R RAI is suitable for arrivals from the south, and P+R Noord for arrivals from the north, with opening hours checked before traveling.
Visitors with disabilities can use a side entrance with a ramp. The building has an elevator to the balcony of the main hall and an accessible toilet in the basement, but wheelchair space on the balcony is limited. Arriving earlier makes entry and coordination with staff easier.
Food, camping, and the continuation of the festival weekend
Paradiso is not a venue with a campsite, a large outdoor food zone, and a series of open stages. No separate gastronomic area has been announced on the program page, so it is practical to plan a meal before entering. Leidseplein and the surrounding streets offer a wide selection of restaurants and cafés, while De Balie, where part of Dekmantel's conference program takes place, is nearby.
Visitors continuing to the weekend in Amsterdamse Bos can use the festival campsite at EuroParcs Amsterdamse Bos. The campsite is approximately a 15-minute walk from the forest festival grounds, and check-in begins on Thursday, July 30. The campsite is not next to Paradiso, so it should not be planned as a place that can be reached quickly during the evening.
Public transport remains the most practical option for returning after the program, but routes and departure times should be checked on the same day. Anyone who wants to step outside briefly for fresh air or to reduce stimulation should speak to the staff before leaving and check the re-entry policy.
Ticket sales for this event are ongoing.
How to prepare for the seven-hour format
The best preparation is not to search for an expected track list, because there is none. It is more useful to listen to one live recording or release by each participant and recognize their different emphases. This will make it easier to hear when Azu Tiwaline's polyrhythm, Barker's floating harmonies, Aurora Halal's psychedelic tension, or Carrier's textured percussion emerge within the shared improvisation.
Arrive well rested, eat before entering, and bring high-quality hearing protection. Paradiso makes earplugs available, but bringing your own pair that fits properly is a safer habit for a program lasting several hours. Since payment is possible by card or contactless methods, cash is not useful inside the venue.
It is worth changing position in the hall several times. The beginning can be followed closer to the stage, where the performers' hands and the way they react are visible. Later, Klomp's visual design is easier to read from a more distant point. Going to the Basement for SnPLO is not merely a break from the main program, but an opportunity to hear a similar idea of a hardware-based process expressed in a more compact, loop-driven language.
The most important thing is not to treat the evening as a list of obligations. STOOR Live gains meaning through duration, slow changes, and moments in which a sound that seemed incidental becomes the foundation of a new chapter. Dekmantel's arrival at Paradiso is therefore a precisely shaped encounter between festival curation, Amsterdam's club history, and music that is created only once.
