Echelon Festival 2026 transforms a former military complex into a multi-zone world of electronic music
Echelon Festival returns to Bad Aibling in Bavaria on August 14 and 15, 2026, at the site of the former US barracks on Texasstraße. The festival begins on Friday at 14:00, and its distinctive backdrop is difficult to confuse with any standard festival field: immediately next to the site are the characteristic radomes of the former listening station, which Echelon has incorporated into its own "Forbidden Grounds" visual identity.
It is precisely the connection between the location and the music that is one of the main differences between Echelon and numerous other European electronic festivals. The formerly closed complex is transformed within the festival concept into a space for music, art and shared experiences. The radomes are not merely a distant backdrop to the main stage, but part of the broader scenography and the new Central Nexus, an interactive zone combining installations, relaxation areas, food and additional activities.
The main music program lasts two days, while camping extends the stay until Sunday. On Friday, the festival grounds operate from 14:00 to 01:00, with the aftershow continuing until 03:30. On Saturday, the program begins at 12:00, the main section also ends at 01:00, and the aftershow lasts until 03:30. The campsite opens on Friday at 09:00 and closes on Sunday at 15:00.
It is worth securing tickets in time.
From Charlotte de Witte and Boris Brejcha to drum and bass and harder styles
Echelon 2026 is not designed around a single narrow interpretation of techno. The program connects techno, hard techno, trance, harder styles, drum and bass and the broader field of electronic dance music, while the differences between individual festival zones are significant enough for two visitors to spend a large part of the day at completely different stages.
Friday's Radiant program includes Angerfist, Ely Oaks, Harris & Ford, HBz, Lilly Palmer, Maddix and Paul van Dyk. That list alone demonstrates the breadth of the festival's main offering - from trance veteran Paul van Dyk through modern festival EDM sounds to the harder directions represented by Angerfist.
Echo on Friday goes deeper into techno. Featured names include Charlotte de Witte, Kalte Liebe, Klangkünstler and Rikhter. For an audience whose priority is a rawer, darker and more repetitive club sound, this part of the program provides a distinctly different alternative to the melodic or large-scale festival approach of Radiant.
Saturday's Radiant is led by Boris Brejcha, Deborah De Luca, Peacock in Concert, Holy Priest, Mischluft, Noel Holler, Oswald and Vini Vici. Different ends of the electronic spectrum come together again here: Boris Brejcha brings his distinctive high-tech minimal approach, Vini Vici psytrance energy, while Peacock in Concert and Holy Priest take the program toward considerably harder intensity.
At Echo on Saturday are Charlie Sparks, I Hate Models, In Verruf, Kobosil, Luciid and Schrotthagen. It is a more concentrated selection for an audience that feels closer to hard techno and the contemporary European warehouse sound than to the classic EDM festival format.
The line-up page further categorizes performers through the Radiant, Echo, Nebula, HADE Cage, Symbiotikka, Frequency, Molecule and Chill-Out zones. Other names include Cloudy, Alfred Heinrichs, Caravel, Mark Dekoda, Nicolas Julian, Somewhen, Ueberrest, Lil Texas, Primate, Russian Village Boys, The Saints and many others.
Frequency changes character between Friday and Saturday
A particularly clear example of the festival's genre-based programming is Frequency. Friday is dedicated to drum and bass, with fast breaks and bass-oriented performers. On Saturday, the same zone switches to Harder Styles.
Names associated with the Frequency program include ASOM b2b HONEY, Cybergunz vs. Schlot, ESKEI83, Lil Texas, Maxtreme, Namara vs. 99PRBLMZ, NIKKI9, Noiseflow, PHORY b2b JXLL, Primate, RAGEMODE, Russian Village Boys, SDRUMS, Teknoclash and The Saints.
Such a change in the character of the stage between festival days is also useful when choosing a single-day ticket. Friday is not merely a shorter version of Saturday, nor does Saturday repeat the same musical profile with different names.
A detailed timetable for individual performances is not provided in the currently available information on the festival website. The festival states that the timetable and site map will be available through its festival information system and at the venue itself, so it is not reasonable to assume the performance times of individual artists in advance.
Symbiotikka brings club-oriented Berlin to Bad Aibling
One of the zones that particularly distinguishes Echelon from a conventional large open-air festival is Symbiotikka. The concept is connected with the event series of the same name from Berlin's KitKat Club and is conceived as a darker, more club-oriented space focused on harder techno and the aesthetics of Berlin's underground scene.
Symbiotikka is not merely another stage with different DJs. The emphasis is also on a distinct atmosphere, which is important for visitors who want an experience closer to a nightclub than an open main stage from a large festival. Access to this zone is restricted to adult visitors.
Echelon therefore builds its experience on contrasts: large open spaces and an Alpine backdrop on one side, and more enclosed and intense themed zones on the other. This is especially interesting for a first-time visitor because the festival does not need to be followed as a single linear program. It makes much more sense to choose several priority performers in advance and then explore different zones between their sets.

Aquasphere and Central Nexus expand the program beyond the stages
New for 2026 is Aquasphere, a Saturday daytime activity for guests with Full Weekend access. From 10:00 to 15:00, a trip to the lake near Schmelmer Hof is organized, with transportation between the festival grounds and the location.
Aquasphere is conceived as a Chill-Out zone by the water with a DJ program. Its timing is interestingly placed before the start of Saturday's festival program at 12:00, so visitors can decide for themselves whether to spend part of the early afternoon by the lake or return earlier to the main location.
At the festival grounds themselves, Central Nexus takes on the role of a new interactive hub. The concept includes accessible spaces inside or alongside the characteristic radomes, a Food & Chill-Out area, interactive installations and other activities that are not limited to watching DJ performances.
For a festival with a program that runs from early afternoon deep into the night, such zones serve a practical function. Visitors do not have to spend the entire day directly in front of the sound system, but can go for food, seating or quieter areas between performances and then continue to another stage.
Camping is a separate part of the Echelon experience
Echelon is organized as a camping festival, and the campsite is located immediately next to the festival grounds and the radomes. The stay runs from Friday morning until Sunday afternoon, so for guests with camping access the festival experience is spread over three calendar days even though the main music program takes place on Friday and Saturday.
The standard campsite includes sanitary facilities, a barbecue area, a supermarket and beverage store, as well as an area offering food. Food and drinks may be brought into the campsite in quantities intended for personal festival needs, but the rules for entering the main festival grounds differ from the campsite rules.
Comfort Camping is also available. This zone has pre-prepared accommodation options such as Asgard Standard, Asgard Komfort and Lodge units. Comfort Camping includes additional amenities such as a reception, Chill-Out area and sauna, while individual accommodation types offer beds, electricity and other equipment.
For guests who want to stay next to their own vehicle, Caravan Camping is available. A standard car is otherwise left in the parking area next to the campsite, while an appropriate type of access is required to enter the caravan zone with a vehicle.

The minimum age for camping is 18. A visitor with a single-day ticket may use the campsite only if they also have the appropriate camping access.
Entry rules to know before arrival
Visitors aged 16 and 17 can access the festival with day or Full Weekend tickets without camping, but only until midnight. The campsite and Symbiotikka are available from the age of 18. An identification document must be carried.
Single-day tickets are subject to a "one-way" rule: once a visitor leaves the festival grounds, they cannot re-enter on the same day using the same day ticket. Full Weekend visitors are exempt from this rule and may move between the festival and camping areas according to the conditions of their ticket.
Only smaller bags or backpacks up to approximately DIN A4 size may be brought into the main festival grounds. Larger backpacks must be left outside the main zone, while this restriction does not apply to the campsite.
Personal food and drinks are not permitted within the main festival grounds, with exceptions related to allergies and special dietary requirements. Food trucks are located on site, including vegetarian and vegan options, and lockers for storing belongings are also available.
The main festival and camping areas use cashless payment with common cards and mobile payment methods. However, for some services outside these zones, including parking, shuttle transport and the deposit associated with waste, it is advisable to have cash.
Additional rules apply to camping. Gas bottles and cartridges are not permitted, nor are generators, glass bottles, drones, fireworks, animals and professional sound systems. Barbecuing is not permitted immediately next to the tent, but there is a specially designated barbecue area. Showers and toilet containers are available to campers.
Arrival by train and festival shuttle
Bad Aibling is located on the Holzkirchen - Rosenheim railway line. From München Hauptbahnhof, the train journey to Bad Aibling takes approximately one hour, making the town conveniently accessible for visitors coming from other parts of Germany or continuing an international journey through München.
A festival shuttle operates between Bad Aibling station and the festival grounds. On Friday it is scheduled from 09:20 to 01:20, and on Saturday from 11:30 to 01:30. After midnight, the shuttle also continues toward Rosenheim station via Bad Aibling, opening additional possibilities for late rail connections.
On Sunday, shuttle departures from the campsite are scheduled at 11:00 and 14:00. To use the shuttle, the appropriate ticket is exchanged on site for a wristband, either at Bad Aibling station or at the festival grounds.
Bus connections to the festival are also available. On Friday, a departure from München ZOB at 15:00 is listed, with a return from the festival grounds at 01:15. On Saturday, departure from München is at 13:00 and from Augsburg at 11:30, with return services at 01:15.
Arriving by car requires additional planning
The address of the festival grounds is Ehem. US-Kaserne, Texasstraße, 83043 Bad Aibling. Parking areas are located immediately next to the festival and camping grounds, and according to festival information the entrances can be reached from them in less than five minutes on foot.
Parking is paid for on site in cash. Visitors arriving by car should pay particular attention to a traffic change in effect for summer 2026. Due to construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Ellmosener Straße, Thürhamer Straße and Dieselstraße, a complete closure of the affected section of road has been in place since July 13.
The wider diversion route from the direction of Ellmosen runs via RO 19 and RO 18, then through Tuntenhausen, Beyharting and Maxlrain toward Bad Aibling. Traffic from the direction of Kolbermoor and Pullach is diverted already at the roundabout in Pullach toward St 2078 and onward via Maxlrain, Beyharting and Tuntenhausen.
For international visitors renting a car or driving toward Bad Aibling for the first time, this is more important than the usual estimate of distance. Navigation should be checked immediately before departure, and local diversions near the town should be taken into account.
What a first-time visitor can expect
Echelon is not a festival where one main stage carries almost the entire program. Its identity is based on moving between different spaces: the large Radiant, the techno-oriented Echo program, harder and more experimental zones, the Frequency concept that changes its genre focus between the two days, Symbiotikka with its club character, and spaces for relaxation and additional activities.
In practical terms, this means a first visit is best planned around performers and zones rather than trying to see everything. More than 100 performances during Friday and Saturday create unavoidable overlaps. A priority list of several performers per day leaves enough room to discover smaller stages without constantly moving from one end of the complex to the other.
For campers, the experience is further expanded. Silent Disco and Technobus bring DJ content beyond the main stages, while the campsite has its own food, barbecue and relaxation zones. Saturday's Aquasphere opens another option for Full Weekend guests before the more intense part of the day's program.

The radomes, former military infrastructure, Alpine backdrop and contemporary electronic production create an atmosphere that is difficult to replicate at another location.
