Jamiroquai in Seville: funk for a summer night under the open sky
Jamiroquai will arrive at Plaza de EspaƱa in Seville on July 16, 2026, as part of the Icónica SantalucĆa Sevilla Fest. The entrances open at 8:00 p.m., while the concert is scheduled to begin at 10:30 p.m. This is the band's only Spanish stop in 2026, so the evening will attract audiences from different parts of Europe, not only from the host city.
For more than three decades, Jamiroquai has been building a blend of funk, acid jazz, soul, disco and electronic music. The bass drives the rhythm, the guitar and keyboards build precise layers, while Jay Kay carries the melody and stage movement. That is why "Virtual Insanity", "Cosmic Girl", "Canned Heat", "Space Cowboy", "Little L" and "Love Foolosophy" have remained widely recognizable.
Carlos Jean, a producer, composer and DJ who will open the program before Jamiroquai, has also been confirmed for the Seville evening. His combination of electronic rhythms and pop sensibility provides a natural introduction to a concert whose main value is groove rather than a strict genre boundary.
Ticket sales for this event are under way. Since this is Jamiroquai's only performance in Spain during 2026, it is worth planning travel and accommodation without delay.
A distinctive sound and a new phase of the career
Jamiroquai emerged in the early 1990s, when London's acid jazz scene was combining club culture with funk, soul and jazz. The band quickly outgrew that framework. It developed a sound that can work in a club, on the radio and in front of a large festival audience.
The key lies in the rhythm. Bass lines lead the songs, while brass instruments, synthesizers, guitars and percussion add color. "Emergency on Planet Earth" and "The Return of the Space Cowboy" carry a stronger acid jazz character, "Travelling Without Moving" opened the way to a global audience, while later albums intensified the disco, pop and electronic sheen.
The most recently released studio album remains "Automaton" from 2017. On it, the recognizable funk meets colder synthesizers and themes of technological alienation, while "Cloud 9" also appears in more recent concert programs. At the same time, the band has entered a new creative phase. During 2025, new songs were presented on stage, including "Disco Stays the Same" and "Shadow in the Night", and in February 2026 a new global recording agreement with BMG was announced.
The ninth studio album still has no publicly confirmed release date. The Seville concert therefore comes at an interesting transitional moment: the old catalog is once again strongly represented on stage, while new material is gradually taking shape in front of the audience.
What previous performances reveal about the repertoire
The final set list for Seville has not been announced, and it should not be assumed that it will be identical to earlier concerts. Nevertheless, performances on The Heels of Steel tour during 2025 show a clear pattern. The programs covered several periods of the band's career, from early songs to "Automaton", along with several new compositions.
At concerts in Paris, Zürich and Manchester, the band performed "Little L", "Space Cowboy", "Alright", "Cloud 9", "Canned Heat", "Cosmic Girl", "Love Foolosophy" and "Virtual Insanity". "Seven Days in Sunny June", "Too Young to Die", "Travelling Without Moving", "Talullah" and "(Don't) Give Hate a Chance" also appeared. This is not an announcement of the Seville running order, but it shows that Jamiroquai is currently not building its performance around only one album.
The comeback concert in Barcelona in 2025 lasted more than two hours and included 18 songs, among them three titles that were unreleased at the time. Reports emphasized the live lineup and the continuous rhythm. A more critical review from Glasgow nevertheless confirmed the band's precision and the audience's strong response to familiar songs.
Jamiroquai live is therefore not merely a survey of hits. The songs are given room for instrumental transitions and changes in dynamics. Bass and drums maintain the dance pulse, while keyboards, guitar and backing vocals expand the studio arrangements.
- Long-time fans can expect a cross-section of more than three decades of the catalog.
- Audience members who know only the biggest hits will hear recognizable choruses and deeper album tracks.
- Fans of funk, disco, soul and acid jazz will hear a band that places emphasis on a live rhythm section.
- New material may appear, but no unreleased song is guaranteed in advance for Seville.
Jay Kay, the band and Carlos Jean
Jay Kay remains the face of Jamiroquai: hats, rapid footwork and movement to the rhythm are part of the band's identity almost as much as Buffalo Man. Nevertheless, the complex arrangements depend on the entire lineup. More recent performances have brought modified arrangements, extended transitions and still-unreleased songs, so the audience comes to hear how the catalog works with today's band.
Carlos Jean further broadens the profile of the evening. His DJ and production approach takes the program from electronic warm-up music toward live funk and soul, without an abrupt transition between completely unrelated styles.
Places are disappearing quickly. For audience members who want a better position within their admission category, it is important to take into account the time required for security checks and movement through the festival grounds.
Plaza de EspaƱa as a real-life stage set
Plaza de EspaƱa is not a standard concert venue with fixed stands and a permanent capacity. It is a monumental semicircular complex in Parque de MarĆa Luisa, designed for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929. Construction lasted from 1914 to 1928, and the main design was created by AnĆbal GonzĆ”lez.
The site covers approximately 50,000 square meters, of which roughly 31,000 are open space. A 515-meter-long canal extends along the semicircular edge. Brick, ceramic and wrought-iron faƧades, two towers and a central fountain create an architectural setting that becomes the backdrop to the stage during the concert.
Here, monumental architecture remains visible behind the production, while the semicircular layout connects the audience and the stage into a single urban stage set. The sound, however, depends on the temporary concert system, the audience's position and the conditions of the evening, rather than on the permanent acoustics of a hall.
For its 2026 edition, the festival stated that it would use acoustics specialists, real-time sound-level monitoring and technical protocols intended to protect Plaza de EspaƱa and the surrounding park. This is important because the concert is taking place within a valuable cultural and landscaped area, rather than on an isolated festival field.
Such a location is particularly suitable for Jamiroquai. Their music has enough energy for a large outdoor space, but also enough detail to ensure that the performance is not reduced only to mass choruses. The lighting, arches, towers and ceramic surfaces of the square give the production visual depth without the need for invented promises of special effects.
Entrances, schedule and arrival organization
The doors open at 8:00 p.m., while the beginning of Jamiroquai's concert is listed for 10:30 p.m. Arriving earlier makes sense because of ticket checks, security screening, finding the correct zone and Carlos Jean's performance. The exact duration of his program and the end of the entire evening have not been announced, so return transport should not be planned according to an assumed finishing time.
For most of the audience, including the Front Stage, Pista A, Pista B, Pista General, Gradas and Plateas categories, admission is planned from Avenida de RodrĆguez de Casso near Glorieta de Los Marineros. Visitors with tickets for people with reduced mobility, boxes, Fast Pass, upgrades and certain special categories enter through Calle Isabel la Católica near Torre Norte. The exit for the entire audience leads through Calle Isabel la Católica near Torre Norte.
Before departure, it is useful to save the ticket on the phone so that it is available even without an internet connection, check the admission category and follow any possible organizational changes on the day of the concert.
- 8:00 p.m. - entrances open.
- 10:30 p.m. - announced start of Jamiroquai's concert.
- Main entrance - Avenida de RodrĆguez de Casso, Glorieta de Los Marineros.
- Special categories - Calle Isabel la Católica, Torre Norte.
- Exit for the entire audience - Calle Isabel la Católica, Torre Norte.
How to get there and what to do with a car
Public transport is more practical than arriving by car because Plaza de EspaƱa is located near important transport hubs, while high attendance and temporary traffic regulations may slow down traffic around Parque de MarĆa Luisa.
Bus routes 01, 03 and C2, as well as suburban routes M-124 and M-126, serve the location. Metrocentro T1 and metro line 1 stop at Prado de San SebastiƔn. Passengers using suburban rail can get off at San Bernardo station, which is served by lines C1 and C5. From these points, visitors should allow for the final part of the journey on foot and congestion around the entrances.
For passengers arriving by air, the EA bus connects Aeropuerto de Sevilla with the city and stops at Prado de San SebastiƔn, San Bernardo and Santa Justa. The route operates every day, but the return journey after the concert should be checked separately because the end of the performance has not been specified in advance.
Santa Justa, the main railway station, is connected to several city routes, while San Bernardo is closer to the concert area and has bus, tram and railway connections. For visitors staying overnight in Seville, accommodation along one of these transport corridors or within walking distance of the return route is practical.
No special parking facility intended for all concert visitors has been announced. Arriving by car therefore carries the risk of searching for a space, road closures and a slower departure after the program. It is more sensible to choose a public garage outside the immediate perimeter of Plaza de EspaƱa in advance and cover the final part of the journey on foot or by public transport.
Seville as part of the concert trip
Plaza de EspaƱa is located in Parque de MarĆa Luisa, south of the historic center. A visitor who arrives earlier can combine the concert with a walk through the park, but should bear in mind that the festival production changes the usual movement through the area.
Real AlcƔzar, Catedral de Sevilla, Archivo de Indias and Santa Cruz are located in the wider center. For the day of the concert, a light schedule with enough time for rest, a meal and an unhurried arrival is preferable. Groups that do not arrive together should agree on a meeting point and a return route in advance.
Who will find the concert especially appealing
For long-time fans, Seville offers an opportunity to hear the band at a stage when the old catalog is being actively performed and new material is gradually entering the program. This is neither a tour focused only on one new album nor a pure retrospective. "Virtual Insanity" and "Canned Heat" may stand alongside "Cloud 9", early acid jazz songs and newer compositions.
The broader audience that knows Jamiroquai through several major hits will receive a performance with a clear dance character and easily recognizable choruses. Fans of live music can follow the rhythm section, the arrangements and the way studio details are translated onto an outdoor stage. Audience members for whom the location is important will get an evening in one of Seville's most striking architectural spaces.
It is worth securing tickets in good time. The only Spanish stop, the confirmed appearance by Carlos Jean and the summer date at Plaza de EspaƱa create a combination that is attractive to both local and international audiences.
Practical preparation for the evening
The concert is being held outdoors, so clothing and footwear should be adapted to spending a long time standing and to summer conditions. Rules concerning permitted items, bags and bringing in drinks may change, so they should be checked immediately before the event. The same applies to traffic notices and any possible schedule changes.
The most useful preparation comes down to several decisions: arrive early enough for Carlos Jean and a calm entry, know the exact entrance according to the ticket category, have an agreed return route and do not rely on an assumed concert duration. That leaves more time for what the audience is coming for - precise bass, expansive choruses, Jay Kay's movement and a catalog that still fills the dance floor after more than thirty years.
