Lollapalooza Chicago 2026: four days of music between the city skyline and Lake Michigan
The date and location information refers to Lollapalooza Chicago, not the Berlin edition. The festival in Grant Park takes place from Thursday, July 30, to Sunday, August 2, 2026. The program runs for four days, every day from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with more than 170 performers spread across eight stages.
Lollapalooza originated in 1991 as a touring festival launched by Perry Farrell, and since 2005 the Chicago edition has had a permanent home in Grant Park. What was once associated primarily with alternative rock now functions as an enormous cross-section of contemporary popular music: pop, indie, rock, hip-hop, electronic music, R&B and performers who are difficult to fit into a single category share the same park and often the same time slot.
That is also the main difference compared with festivals that focus more strongly on a single genre. In Grant Park, visitors do not simply choose their favorite performer, but create their own route each day between major closing shows, medium-sized stages and a program that begins around noon. Tickets for this event are in demand, and four-day categories are currently on waiting lists.
What the daily program looks like
The schedule is extensive, and overlaps are unavoidable. The two main stages are located at opposite ends of the park, while Perry's hosts a large part of the electronic program. Allianz, BMI, Airbnb and Tito's offer a combination of established names and emerging performers, while Kidzapalooza has a separate family-oriented rhythm.
Thursday: Lorde, John Summit and a broad range from indie to electronic music
The first day ends with simultaneous performances by Lorde on the T-Mobile stage and John Summit on the Bud Light stage, both beginning at 8:30 p.m. The closing slot on the Perry's stage belongs to the project Worship, while Wet Leg takes the Allianz stage at 7:30 p.m.
Earlier in the day, the program includes 5 Seconds of Summer, Boys Noize, Blood Orange, Empire of the Sun, SOMBR, CMAT, Ninajirachi and Little Simz. That combination clearly demonstrates the festival's logic: guitar pop and indie rock can alternate with club rhythms, alternative R&B and major pop performances without a clear boundary between audiences.
Friday: Charli XCX versus The Smashing Pumpkins
Friday brings one of the most obvious contrasts in the program. Charli XCX begins on the T-Mobile stage at 8:40 p.m., while The Smashing Pumpkins perform on the Bud Light stage from 8:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. At the same time, Major Lazer closes Perry's from 8:30 p.m., and Freddie Gibbs performs on the Airbnb stage from 9:15 p.m.
Before the evening finale come Lil Uzi Vert, Mustard, Yungblud, Zara Larsson, Suki Waterhouse, Oklou, Slayyyter and The Story So Far. Visitors who want to catch several different genres should determine their priorities in advance, because walking quickly across Grant Park does not completely resolve scheduling conflicts between performances.
Saturday: Olivia Dean, JENNIE and a strong middle section of the program
Saturday's finale is led by Olivia Dean on the T-Mobile stage from 8:30 p.m. and JENNIE on the Bud Light stage from 9:00 p.m. Disco Lines occupies the closing slot at Perry's, while DJ Trixie Mattel closes the Airbnb stage from 9:00 p.m.
The program before the headline slots includes Ethel Cain, Clipse, Wolf Alice, Geese, Alison Wonderland, The Neighbourhood and Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra. The performance by the city's youth symphony orchestra is an example of how the festival occasionally moves beyond the expected pop-rock-electronic framework and uses its location in central Chicago for a different type of encounter with the audience.
Sunday: Tate McRae, The xx and a finale with several simultaneous choices
The final evening offers Tate McRae on the T-Mobile stage from 8:45 p.m., The xx on the Bud Light stage from 8:45 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., The Chainsmokers at Perry's from 8:30 p.m. and Ado on the Airbnb stage from 9:15 p.m. This means that the final decision is not limited to two, but to four very different performances.
During the afternoon and early evening, Turnstile, aespa, Beabadoobee, YOASOBI, MUNA, Jade, Hot Mulligan and Water From Your Eyes perform. Sunday is particularly interesting for audiences who want to combine contemporary pop, K-pop and J-pop, alternative rock, hardcore and electronic production in a single day.
The schedule may change, so it should be checked again immediately before arrival and during the festival. It is worth securing tickets in good time, but it is equally important to mark in advance the performers who simply cannot be missed.
Grant Park is more than just a backdrop
Grant Park covers nearly 313 acres in Chicago's central business district, between the city's architecture and the shore of Lake Michigan. The park contains Buckingham Fountain, Art Institute of Chicago, Maggie Daley Park and access to the Museum Campus area. During Lollapalooza, this public space is transformed into a temporary festival city, with stages, food zones, premium areas, water-filling stations and activations between performances.
A major advantage of the location is the feeling of an open urban festival without being isolated in a remote complex. At the same time, the size of the grounds means a great deal of walking. The surface is a combination of paved areas, grass and gravel, so footwear should be chosen for hours of movement, not merely for appearance.
For a first visit, it is useful to remember several basic landmarks:
- The main entrance is located at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Ida B. Wells Drive.
- The north entrance is located at the intersection of Monroe Street and Columbus Drive.
- The entrances open at 11:00 a.m. and close at 10:00 p.m.
- The box office at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Ida B. Wells South is open from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on festival days.
- Overnight camping and waiting outside the entrances before opening time are not permitted.
The festival does not have a campsite in Grant Park. Visitors coming from outside Chicago should arrange accommodation in the city or the wider metropolitan area. Because of the downtown location, a hotel within walking distance or with a direct public transport connection is often more practical than driving every day.
Tickets, wristbands and differences between zones
A basic General Admission ticket provides access to the regular festival areas. GA+ adds a separate premium entrance, two private lounge zones and seating. VIP includes its own entrance, lounge areas, designated viewing zones, food offerings within the VIP area and golf-cart transportation between certain premium zones. Platinum goes further with closer viewing areas, all-day food and drink offerings and shuttle transportation within the park.
A one-day ticket is valid only for the selected Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday. A four-day ticket covers the entire festival from July 30 to August 2. On the current event website, several four-day and premium categories are marked as sold out or available through a waiting list, while the number of remaining one-day options is limited. Ticket sales for this event are ongoing.
The wristband is the key to entry. Activation is not necessary for scanning at the entrance, but it enables additional security functions and connection to contactless payment for food, drinks and festival merchandise. After the first entry, a visitor may leave and return two more times during the same day, with the wristband scanned again and another security check.
The wristband should not be tightened before it is correctly positioned on the wrist. Problems with delivery, replacement or collection require assistance at the wristband location or box office, and an identification document is required to verify the order.
Getting there: public transport has a clear advantage
Chicago has two major airports, O'Hare and Midway, and both are connected to the city by public transport. The most practical way to reach Grant Park is a combination of CTA trains, city buses, Metra and the Pace system. For the 2026 festival weekend, CTA and Metra have announced additional capacity, and Metra is introducing additional trains on seven of its eleven lines.
CTA recommends the Red and Blue lines, as well as the elevated lines that run through the Loop. Passengers arriving at Chicago Union Station can use buses 126, 130 or 151 to reach Grant Park. From Ogilvie Transportation Center, the listed routes are 20, 56 and J14. Because of construction and temporary changes in the city center, the route should be checked on the day of travel.
Parking is available in garages beneath Grant Park, Millennium Park and Maggie Daley Park, but street closures and high demand may slow arrival and departure. The organizers specifically identify Millennium Lakeside Garage and Millennium Park Garage as practical options for access to DuSable Lake Shore Drive. Cyclists are provided with a free guarded area at the corner of Balbo Drive and Michigan Avenue, along with additional self-service bicycle locking locations.
Bag rules and items that pass security screening
The fastest entry can be expected by those arriving without a bag. Small purses and waist bags measuring up to 6 x 9 inches do not need to be transparent, but may have no more than one pocket. Larger bags must be transparent and smaller than 12 x 6 x 12 inches. Hydration backpacks do not need to be transparent, but must be empty upon entry and limited to two main compartments and one smaller compartment.
Empty reusable water bottles, hydration packs, small portable batteries, binoculars, strollers and basic compact cameras without detachable lenses are permitted. Sunscreen must be in a non-aerosol container of up to 3.4 ounces, and a personal misting fan must have an empty bottle with a capacity of up to 1.5 liters upon entry.
Outside food and drinks, coolers, glass containers, aerosol products, umbrellas, blankets, chairs, professional photo and video equipment, selfie sticks, drones, bicycles inside the festival area, tents, poles and pets other than service animals are not permitted. Smoking, including vaping, is prohibited in Chicago parks. Every entry and re-entry includes a search of the person and their belongings.
Food, family programming and activities between performances
Chow Town brings together a large number of restaurants and mobile kitchens, offering pizza, burgers, Asian, Latin American and barbecue dishes. Dessert Island concentrates sweets and frozen desserts, while Plant Base offers vegan food, drinks and desserts. Vibe Village adds extra snacks and interactive activities alongside its pop program.
The 2026 list includes, among others, Lou Malnati's Pizzeria, Billy Goat Tavern, Harold's Chicken, Kamehachi, Original Rainbow Cone, Penelope's Vegan Taqueria and many other local food vendors. The offering includes vegetarian, vegan and options adapted to different dietary needs, but visitors with allergies should check the ingredients directly with each individual vendor.
Kidzapalooza has daily performances and family activities, including music, creative content and interactive stations. Children aged eight and under may enter without an additional GA ticket when accompanied by a ticketed adult, subject to special rules for premium categories. This makes the festival more accessible to families, but the size of the grounds, noise levels and long day require a realistic rest plan.
Between the stages are Toyota Music Den, Bud Light Sound Bar, Vibe Village, Desert Island, beauty and photo zones, device charging stations, festival merchandise stores and various short DJ sets and supporting programs. Aftershow concerts are held separately in Chicago clubs and venues and require separate tickets; they are not included with the festival wristband.
For a first visit, the best strategy is not to try to see everything. Choose two or three main performances per day, leave time between them to cross the park, refill water and eat, and agree on a meeting point with your group in advance. The mobile network signal may become overloaded when the audience moves toward the closing stages at the same time.
