Outside Lands transforms Golden Gate Park into a three-day city of music, food and nightlife culture
Outside Lands 2026 takes place from Friday, August 7, to Sunday, August 9, in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. The gates open at 11:00, the music program begins at 12:00 and ends at 22:00 each day. It is an outdoor festival that connects global pop, rock, hip-hop, R&B and electronic performers with gastronomy, visual art and stages inspired by the local club culture.
It is important to clarify the location: the main festival program is not held at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. That venue in central San Francisco serves as the departure point for the advance-reservation shuttle service to the south entrance of Golden Gate Park. The festival lasts three days, while separate Outside Lands Night Shows are held in various clubs and venues before, during and after the festival weekend. Separate tickets are required for those evening performances.

Festival identity: major headliners without genre boundaries
Outside Lands builds its identity on transitions between pop, rock, hip-hop, alternative R&B, house, techno and experimental electronic music. During a single day, it is possible to move from a smaller performance to a production on the main stage and finish the evening in a dance zone.
The 2026 program is headlined by Charli xcx, The Strokes and RÜFÜS DU SOL. Behind them is a line-up that includes The xx, Baby Keem, Turnstile, GRIZTRONICS, Djo, Labrinth, Empire Of The Sun, PinkPantheress, Dijon, Death Cab for Cutie, GloRilla, Ethel Cain, Modest Mouse, Clipse, Tinashe, Lane 8, Boris Brejcha and other performers. That combination clearly shows who the festival is intended for: an audience that does not want to spend the entire day in front of one stage or listen to only one genre.
It is not possible to see the entire program. Distances and overlaps require planning, while the festival application offers a personal schedule, map, food selection and current notifications.
Friday: Charli xcx, Turnstile and four different endings to the evening
The first day brings the most pronounced collision of pop, hardcore, hip-hop and bass music. Charli xcx closes Lands End with a performance from 20:40 to 21:55. At the same time, GRIZTRONICS takes over Twin Peaks, Modest Mouse plays on the Sutro stage, and HYPERBEAM closes the SOMA program. The choice is therefore not only a question of a favorite performer, but also whether the visitor wants to end the evening with a pop spectacle, guitars, heavy electronic bass or club production.
Labrinth and Clipse begin at 18:45 on different stages, while Turnstile performs on the Sutro stage from 19:20 to 20:20. Visitors who want a good position for Charli xcx should head toward Lands End earlier, while those changing stages should expect denser crowd flows before the closing performances.
Saturday: The Strokes and The xx in a direct overlap
Saturday's schedule places two key names in alternative music on opposite sides of the park. The Strokes perform at Lands End from 20:35 to 21:55, while The xx play at Twin Peaks from 20:10 to 21:25. The overlap is long enough that watching both complete performances is not realistic, so it is worth making the decision before the evening crowds.
In the same closing block, PinkPantheress performs on the Sutro stage from 20:45 to 21:45, while Lane 8 plays in the SOMA zone from 20:25 to 21:55. Saturday therefore offers four very different choices: New York rock, minimalist indie pop, contemporary British pop and an extended electronic set.
Earlier, Dijon at Twin Peaks from 18:30 to 19:20 overlaps with Djo at Lands End from 18:50 to 19:50. Saturday is especially strong for audiences focused on guitar-based and alternative music, but it requires early decisions about movement.
Sunday: RÜFÜS DU SOL, Baby Keem and two Death Cab for Cutie sets
Sunday's closing program is divided among four strong performances. RÜFÜS DU SOL closes Lands End from 20:25 to 21:55. Baby Keem performs at Twin Peaks from 20:40 to 21:55, Death Cab for Cutie on the Sutro stage from 20:25 to 21:40, and Boris Brejcha in the SOMA zone from 19:55 to 21:55.
Death Cab for Cutie also has an earlier performance on the same day from 12:40 to 13:30. This provides an opportunity to see the band during the day and leave the evening slot for RÜFÜS DU SOL, Baby Keem or Boris Brejcha. Empire Of The Sun, Mariah the Scientist and Not for Radio, Maríje Zardoye's project, also perform later. Because the stages finish almost simultaneously, a large concentration of people should be expected at the exits and on transportation after the final performances.
Golden Gate Park is not merely a backdrop
The festival stretches across the grassy and wooded sections of Golden Gate Park, with large stages, smaller zones and long pedestrian corridors. Polo Field hosts part of the main program, while Marx Meadow accommodates SOMA.
SOMA is a festival area dedicated to house and techno. The program includes Boys Noize, Lane 8, HYPERBEAM, Boris Brejcha, Carlita, Miss Monique, Ben Böhmer, ¥ØU$UK€ ¥UK1MAT$U and KI/KI. The zone is designed as an outdoor club experience, with a powerful sound system and visual production.
Dolores' brings a different rhythm. It is a three-day celebration of queer and trans communities and San Francisco's DIY nightlife scene, featuring drag, dancing, DJ programs and performances. The program is curated by HOT GOTH GF, OASIS and Polyglamorous, while the announced names include Romy, Kori King & Lydia B Kollins, DJ Minx, Light Asylum and D'Arcy Drollinger. The new courtyard zone includes Glam Bar, selected hair-styling interventions and additional bar content.
The Artists in Residence program presents works by Bay Area artists María Alejandra Guzmán Capron and Oliver Hawk Holden, designed for the environment of Golden Gate Park.
Food and drink as a separate festival program
Outside Lands has been developing its gastronomic offering as a parallel line-up for years, and the 2026 edition brings together 100 restaurants and 53 cuisines. The offering includes vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options, local institutions, newer restaurants and collaborations designed especially for the festival. Instead of a single central food court, stands and carts are distributed across multiple zones, allowing visitors to fit a meal into their movement between stages.
The drinks program includes six cocktail bars, Wine Lands with 26 wineries from Northern California and more than 20 breweries. Some zones are accessible only to adult visitors, and an identification document may be required for entry and purchases.
Water is available at refill stations, so an empty bottle or suitable hydration reservoir is permitted. The festival operates without cash, with the exception of certain content in the Grass Lands zone for visitors aged 21 and over.
Tickets, wristbands and differences between zones
The basic categories are GA, GA+, VIP and Golden Gate Club, with one-day and three-day options. At the time of checking, the standard GA, GA+ and VIP categories were sold out, with waiting lists and limited premium options. Availability may change, so the information should be checked immediately before purchasing.
- GA provides access to the general festival zones, stages, food offerings and accompanying content.
- GA+ adds expedited entry and a separate lounge with upgraded restroom facilities, non-alcoholic drinks and a bar and food available for purchase.
- VIP includes separate entrances, special viewing areas near Lands End, Sutro and Twin Peaks, as well as a VIP lounge and additional hospitality facilities.
- Golden Gate Club provides zones closer to the stages, golf-cart transportation between key areas, all-day food and drinks and a skydeck near Lands End.
The wristband is the ticket and should be registered before arrival. A three-day wristband remains on the wrist throughout the weekend, is non-transferable and must not be cut or removed. Wristbands purchased late are collected at the box office in Marx Meadow with an identification document.
It is worth securing tickets in time.
Entrances, bags and rules that save time
The north entrance is located at 26th Avenue and Fulton Street, while the south entrance is at Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Metson Road. The ADA entrance is located at 36th Avenue and JFK Drive. The type of ticket affects the recommended entrance, so the map should be reviewed before arrival rather than only at the fence.
Clear backpacks and bags made from transparent plastic, vinyl or PVC are permitted. Small purses, waist bags and bags up to 6 x 8 x 3 inches do not need to be transparent. Empty purpose-built hydration backpacks with a reservoir smaller than 2.5 liters and no more than one additional pocket are permitted. Standard backpacks with hydration reservoirs are not permitted.
Glass, cans, alcohol, coolers, umbrellas, chairs with legs, drones, professional video equipment, selfie sticks, flags and totems are not permitted. Bicycles and scooters must remain outside the fence. Re-entry on the same day is generally not permitted; in an emergency, visitors should speak with a supervisor before leaving.
Outside Lands is not a camping festival. Sleeping overnight in the park or in a vehicle is not permitted.
Getting there: shuttle, Muni and leaving without a car
There is no general parking for the festival, and parking in the surrounding residential streets is strictly controlled. Public transportation, the shuttle, a bicycle, walking or organized rideshare are more practical than arriving in a private vehicle.
The shuttle departs from Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, next to Civic Center Plaza, and travels to the south entrance of Golden Gate Park. Departures begin at 11:00, services continue throughout the day with reduced frequency between 17:00 and 20:00, and the final bus to the festival leaves at 20:00. Return buses operate for up to one hour after the music ends. For the return journey, visitors must exit on the south side of the park because there is no shuttle boarding on the north side.
Muni increases services toward the park. From the city center, visitors can use the 5 Fulton and 5R Fulton Rapid buses toward Fulton Street and 30th Avenue, as well as additional N Judah trains. After the program, the 5X Civic Center Express is planned toward the Civic Center/UN Plaza BART station, together with continued additional N Judah services.
Rideshare zones are located at Balboa Street and 30th Avenue and on Irving Street between 25th and 27th Avenue. Stopping near the entrances is complicated by closed streets and the large concentration of pedestrians.
Plan for a first visit
For a first visit, a simple plan is useful: one must-see performance in each part of the day, several alternatives and a meal location selected in advance. Constantly crossing the park can easily turn the day into walking through crowds.
- Register the wristband and save the schedule before arrival.
- Choose the entrance according to the ticket type and the first stage you want to visit.
- Arrive before the first important performance because the security check and walking through the park take time.
- Bring an empty bottle or permitted hydration reservoir and layered clothing for temperature changes.
- Agree on a meeting point with the group in case of a weaker mobile connection.
- Before the final set, decide which exit you will use toward the shuttle, Muni transportation or rideshare zone.
Night Shows can extend the festival program into smaller clubs and venues across San Francisco. The announced names include GRiZ, Modest Mouse, Clipse, Ben Böhmer and ¥ØU$UK€ ¥UK1MAT$U, but admission to those performances is not included with the festival wristband. Visitors who want to combine the daytime program in the park with a nighttime concert should leave enough time to exit Golden Gate Park, travel and go through a new security check.
