Rock The Country in Hastings brings together country, rock and festival camping
Rock The Country is coming to the Barry Expo Center in Hastings, Michigan, as a two-day festival that deliberately expands country music toward rock, southern rock and crossover sounds. It is a traveling festival format that moves between several American cities during 2026, and this year the organizer is also linking it to the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States of America.
Hastings is a location that suits this concept because the Barry Expo Center is not a conventional concert arena, but a large multipurpose fairground with open grounds, arenas, a campground and supporting facilities. Visitors can spend the entire weekend at the site, combine the main program with Fan Zone activities, food and camping, and choose between several ticket levels.
The program is scheduled for Saturday, August 8, and Sunday, August 9. A total of 18 artists have been confirmed for Hastings, and the two days have sufficiently different musical emphases to be experienced as two separate festival days as well. Ticket sales for this event are currently underway.
Two days and 18 artists
Saturday's program is headlined by Kid Rock, an artist whose career crosses the boundaries between rap-rock, hard rock and country rock. In 2026, alongside Rock The Country, he is also performing on his own Freedom 250 Tour. Joining him is Brantley Gilbert, whose modern country sound relies heavily on harder guitars and rock-style concert energy. In 2026, Gilbert is promoting the project Sins of the Father.
Ashley Cooke brings a more contemporary country approach and in 2026 continues to build her international profile following performances at C2C: Country to Country and London's O2 Arena. Uncle Kracker further expands Saturday's sound toward the pop-rock and country crossover spectrum.
The confirmed artists by day are:
- Saturday: Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, Ashley Cooke, Uncle Kracker, Cole Goodwin, Demun Jones, Sons of Habit, Ava Hall and Connor Hicks.
- Sunday: Jason Aldean, Treaty Oak Revival, Chase Matthew, Shenandoah, The Creekers, Danny Worsnop, Sadie Bass, Colton Bowlin and Scott Wolverton.
Sunday shifts the focus toward contemporary country, Texas country and a more traditional style. Jason Aldean arrives as one of the most recognizable arena-country artists of his generation and continues his Full Throttle tour during 2026. Treaty Oak Revival represents a different side of the program: the band combines Texas country and Southern rock with a pronounced guitar-driven sound.
Shenandoah brings a historical perspective. During its career, the band has placed 26 singles on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart and is associated with songs such as "Two Dozen Roses", "Church on Cumberland Road" and "Next to You, Next to Me". Alongside younger artists such as Chase Matthew, this lineup gives Sunday a broader generational range.
A detailed schedule for individual artists had not been published on the event page at the time of checking, so it is safer to plan for the entire day rather than rely on unofficial estimates of performance times.
Barry Expo Center is not a typical concert venue
Barry Expo Center is located at 1350 M-37 in Hastings. The site has a long history as a fairground and operates as a multipurpose complex managed by the Barry County Agricultural Society. Its infrastructure explains why it is suitable for a festival that, in addition to stages, includes camping, parking and food-service areas.
Several specific features of the site:
- the complex has been used as a multipurpose event venue since 1852
- the site contains six barns and three outdoor arenas
- part of the complex is a half-mile racetrack
- the campground has 260 sites with water and electricity hookups
- the site has two banquet halls and a licensed kitchen
For Rock The Country, the open-air festival configuration is more important than the indoor portion of the complex. The organizer describes the GA, GA+ and VIP areas as standing areas. A standard festival chair may be brought in, but without a bag or cover.
It is worth securing tickets in advance, especially if the goal is a specific festival area, because the different categories offer substantially different ways of experiencing the program.
GA, GA+, VIP and Front Porch
The basic GA ticket provides access to the festival and shared amenities, but does not include a seat. GA+ adds a designated viewing area near the front of the stage on the corresponding side, a shaded area, separate food and drink purchase options, and restroom facilities with air-conditioned trailers.
VIP includes a separate premium entrance, a dedicated viewing area in front of the stage, a shaded area and an air-conditioned lounge with a live feed of the performances. For 2026, an additional food offering by chef David Bancroft has also been announced in the VIP area, available for purchase.
Front Porch differs the most from traditional festival standing. It includes an elevated viewing area with seating available on a first-come basis, dinner on each festival evening, non-alcoholic beverages, premium entry, re-entry privileges until 9:00 PM and weekend parking.
GA is the simplest choice for a classic festival experience. GA+ and VIP make more sense for visitors who value shade and designated areas, while Front Porch changes the entire way of spending time in front of the stage.
Fan Zone, second stage and food
One of the significant changes in 2026 is the Fan Zone with a second stage presented by Raised Rowdy. This allows Rock The Country to expand its program beyond the main stage, and for campers the Fan Zone is especially important because it is also connected with access to food and the festival general store.
In the announcement for 2026, the organizer highlighted expanded shaded and cooling areas as well as a dedicated food zone with at least five local food trucks at festival stations and shaded seating areas.
The festival also provides free water stations. Visitors are allowed to bring an empty reusable plastic bottle and up to two factory-sealed bottles of water per person. Outside food and other beverages are not permitted.
Camping turns the visit into a full weekend
Rock The Country in Hastings has a separate camping offer for cars with tents and for RV vehicles. A camping pass does not include a festival ticket.
Camping covers three nights, from the day before the first festival day until the morning after the festival ends. Check-in is on Friday from 8:00 AM until midnight, with an additional check-in period on Saturday from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM. Departure from the campground is scheduled by noon on Monday.
A car-and-tent site measures 20 x 20 feet, while a standard RV site is approximately 25 x 50 feet. Each site allows one vehicle and one camping unit. Once a vehicle has been parked inside the campground, it cannot freely leave and return during the weekend.
The camping wristband, however, allows movement on foot between the festival grounds and the campground. This is an important difference compared with a regular day ticket, for which the organizer allows only one entry per day: after leaving, re-entry on the same day is not permitted.
Arrival, parking and getting around Hastings
Hastings is located in the central part of Barry County in Michigan's Lower Peninsula, between the larger urban areas of Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek and Lansing. The city lies along the Thornapple River, and the key address for festival arrival is the Barry Expo Center on M-37.
The organizer states that parking usually opens around noon, although the exact time may be updated shortly before the event. Parking and festival admission are separate items. ADA parking spaces are available on a first-come basis for vehicles with the appropriate permit, together with festival parking, and golf-cart shuttle transportation between ADA parking and the entrance has also been announced.
A dedicated drop-off and pick-up zone is provided for rideshare transportation. Overnight parking is not permitted except for vehicles with the appropriate camping or additional camping parking pass.
Because a regular festival ticket does not allow re-entry after leaving, make sure you have everything you will need for the rest of the day before passing through security.
Wristbands, payments and entry rules
GA, GA+, VIP and Front Porch access use RFID wristbands. The festival is cashless: the organizer lists cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and registered RFID wristbands as payment methods at most sales locations.
A bag does not have to be transparent, but it will be inspected at the entrance. Mobile phones and portable chargers, non-aerosol sunscreen, empty personal soft-sided coolers and one standard festival chair per person without a bag or cover are allowed.
Items that are not permitted include:
- weapons of any kind
- outside food and beverages except permitted water
- tents, umbrellas and wagons
- pets, except service animals
- laser pointers, fireworks and explosive devices
- professional cameras, GoPro devices and professional audio or video equipment
- metal cups and metal koozie holders
An ADA viewing platform with a wheelchair ramp is planned at the venue. For lost items, the organizer directs visitors to Guest Services and the Will Call tent.
What a first-time visitor can expect
Rock The Country does not remain within one strict genre definition. Saturday's combination of Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, Ashley Cooke and Uncle Kracker demonstrates how much the program can move between country, rock, pop and rap influences. Sunday is more focused on country, but Treaty Oak Revival retains a strong rock edge, while Shenandoah provides a link to the classic country radio repertoire.
The audience is therefore not necessarily homogeneous. Someone may come primarily for the major headliners, someone for modern country, and someone for the harder crossover sound or older country songs. That range is more important than the festival's label itself.
For a first visit, the most important thing is to decide in advance how much time you want to spend at the venue and which area you actually need. If you are coming for only one day, the no-re-entry rule makes planning more important. If you are staying for the entire weekend, camping offers a completely different rhythm and allows movement back and forth between the campground and the festival grounds.
Spaces disappear quickly, so it is useful to decide on the day and ticket category before arriving, especially if you want access to designated areas rather than the standard GA space.
Practical reminder before departure
The most important thing is to check the latest published schedule immediately before arrival. The division of artists by day has been confirmed, but detailed performance times for individual artists were not available on the event page during the check. The same applies to the final opening time for parking and entrances, which the organizer may update closer to the start.
If you are bringing a chair, it should be a standard single lawn chair without a bag. If you are bringing a bottle, it should be plastic and empty for refilling, or factory-sealed within the permitted quantity. Do not rely on cash and prepare a card, mobile payment or an activated RFID wristband.
For campers, the check-in times and the fact that a vehicle cannot be used for unrestricted exits and returns after being parked in the campground are especially important. For day visitors, the most important rule is the single-entry policy. For people who require accessibility, an ADA viewing platform, parking and shuttle option are available.
Rock The Country in Hastings is therefore not simply a series of performances by big names from the poster. The two-day format, fairground complex, camping, second stage, different festival areas and wide range of country-rock artists make it an event that requires somewhat more preparation than a standard evening concert.
