Sziget Festival 2026: three days on the Island of Freedom
Sziget Festival returns to Óbudai-sziget in Budapest from August 11 to 15, 2026. Concerts, electronic clubs, contemporary circus, theatre, workshops and social programs once again transform the Danube island into a temporary city. For a visitor with a three-day ticket beginning on August 11, the focus is on the first three festival days, from Tuesday to Thursday. That is enough time to experience a range extending from stadium pop and alternative rock to a techno program that continues deep into the night.
Sziget differs from festivals organized around a single main stage. The site is divided into music and arts districts, and the program moves between the Main Stage, Revolut Stage, Delta District, Magic Mirror, circus tents and smaller spaces for emerging performers.
Tickets for this event are in high demand. A three-day visit is particularly worth planning in advance because each of the first three days has a different musical character, while overlaps between stages are part of the experience.
Program during the first three festival days
The schedule below does not list performance times because the timing and order of appearances on individual stages may change. Before departure, visitors should check the festival app and their personal schedule saved on their phone.
Day one: pop, indie and an electronic night
On Tuesday, August 11, the featured names include sombr, Zara Larsson, Dijon, Underworld and Wolf Alice. This combination alone explains Sziget's identity well. Zara Larsson brings a major pop performance, Wolf Alice deliver a guitar-driven sound between alternative rock and shoegaze, while Underworld connect the festival audience with club culture and the history of electronic music.
The electronic part of the day is expanded further by Indira Paganotto, Trym, Vintage Culture and Sara Landry. A visitor can begin with bands in the open air, continue with a concert on one of the larger stages and finish in the Delta District. Ana Frango Elétrico, Lambrini Girls and Irie Maffia are also on the program, so the first day offers a complete cross-section of different scenes.
Day two: Twenty One Pilots and a broad range of live performances
Wednesday, August 12, is led by Twenty One Pilots, together with Biffy Clyro and Ashnikko. Twenty One Pilots combine alternative pop, rock, rap and electronic production, while Biffy Clyro represent the heavier guitar-driven side of the program. Ashnikko brings a theatrical, digitally shaped blend of pop, hip-hop and electronic influences.
Argy, Chet Faker, Giant Rooks, Natasha Bedingfield and TOMORA also perform on the same day. In the later hours, the selection expands toward DJ sets and club-oriented sounds, including WhoMadeWho, HAAi and Charlie Sparks. It is a good day for comparing major concert productions with smaller spaces where the audience is closer to the performer.
Day three: Florence + The Machine, Lewis Capaldi and a dance program
Thursday, August 13, brings together Florence + The Machine, Lewis Capaldi, Richie Hawtin, Boys Noize and Dom Dolla. Florence + The Machine are known for physically intense performances and songs that acquire an almost ritual character on an open-air stage. Lewis Capaldi steers the program toward emotional pop, while Richie Hawtin and Boys Noize represent different generations of techno and electro culture.
Loyle Carner, Parcels, Black Country, New Road, Joris Voorn, Paris Paloma and Pan-Pot are also on the program. This means that the third day can be arranged as a sequence of concerts emphasizing singer-songwriter pop, hip-hop and art rock, or as a transition from afternoon bands toward an all-night electronic program. A three-day ticket ending after this day therefore covers three very different program profiles.
Stages and festival districts
The Main Stage is the center of the largest productions and can accommodate up to 60,000 people. Visitors should expect longer approaches, large crowds after performances end and the need to choose a place earlier. The Revolut Stage is the second major concert location, often suitable for performers who cross the boundaries between rock, electronic music and alternative pop.
The Delta District brings together three spaces dedicated to electronic music over five nights. The BOLT Night Stage is intended for major house, techno, trance and drum & bass names. The Yettel Colosseum is a circular stage with a 360-degree dance floor, built from pallets, while Arzenál x Turbina: Der Klub has a more intimate club-oriented approach. BOLT functions as a large nighttime arena, the Colosseum places the DJ at the center of the audience, while Der Klub resembles an underground urban club.
Outside the music zones are spaces that give Sziget its recognizable cultural dimension. Magic Mirror combines drag performances, performance programs and conversations about identity and culture. Cirque du Sziget presents contemporary circus by international companies every day, while Le Grand Theatre connects acrobatics, dance, physical theatre and storytelling. From 11:00 to 19:00, Impact Island addresses the environment, mental health, human rights and community building through interactive activities. During the same hours, XS Land introduces visitors to the experiences of people with disabilities through practical tasks and workshops.
Places disappear quickly. It is worth securing tickets in time, but it is equally important to mark several smaller programs in advance that you do not want to miss. The most interesting part of Sziget often emerges between the major performances, when visitors enter a circus tent, club space or workshop without a fixed plan.
Óbudai-sziget as a festival city
The festival takes place on Óbudai-sziget, a green island on the Danube in the northern part of Budapest. During the event, the site gains entrances, campsites, food zones, sanitary points, cloakrooms and rest areas. Distances between stages can be considerable, especially after the main performances finish.
The first hour is better used to locate the K-Bridge entrance, the Main Stage, a sanitary point, water stations, the food zone and the direction toward the campsite or exit. The map in the app is more practical than relying on a photograph.
Budapest makes it possible to combine the festival with a stay in the city. The historic center, the banks of the Danube, thermal baths and museums are accessible by public transport, but a three-day visit requires a realistic pace. A hotel offers quieter sleep, while camping preserves the feeling of uninterrupted festival life.
Tickets, wristbands and differences between packages
The offer includes five-day passes, three-day passes, single-day tickets and VIP versions. There is also a special five-day 21&Under category for visitors who meet the age requirement. A three-day ticket is tied to a specific sequence of consecutive days, so the validity period printed on the voucher must be checked before traveling.
The VIP option does not change the program, but rather the way the site is used. It includes a separate entrance lane, covered waiting areas and designated viewing areas at the Main Stage, Revolut Stage and BOLT Night Stage. Seating, additional sanitary facilities, bars and a cloakroom are available, but the capacity of individual zones remains limited.
Online check-in is required before arrival. Each person registers their own ticket through their festival account and links it to an identification document. The same photographic document must be presented at the entrance. The ticket is exchanged for a wristband, and the wristband must be worn throughout its entire validity period. Exits and re-entry are permitted during that time.
- Save the ticket or boarding pass in a mobile wallet and bring a photographic identification document.
- For the main performances, arrive on the island at least 1.5 to 2 hours earlier because of ticket, document and bag checks.
- The busiest period for arrivals at the main entrance is expected to be approximately between 17:00 and 21:00.
- Do not remove the wristband, and check how long the ticket remains valid before every exit.
Camping and accommodation on the island
Basic Camping is available to visitors with multi-day passes and qualifying consecutive single-day tickets. Tents may be pitched only in designated free zones, not beside program areas or inside upgraded campsites. A visitor bringing their own tent must have a Leave-no-tent deposit voucher and must take the tent away on departure or hand it in at a designated point.
For greater comfort, Camping of Nations, Caravan Camping, Sziget Ville Premium and other separate zones are available with reception facilities, showers, lockers, electricity or pre-pitched accommodation. Entry to them is not automatically included with every pass.
The campsite opens at 8:00 on August 11 and closes at 12:00 on August 16. For a three-day stay, the most practical option is to arrive early on the first day, pitch the tent before the evening crowds and immediately photograph the nearest landmarks. At night, many rows of tents may appear identical.
Arriving by public transport
The simplest access from the city is the H5 suburban railway. It departs from the Batthyány tér area and passes Margit híd, while festival visitors get off at Filatorigát station. From there, the route continues on foot toward the main entrance across K-Bridge. The BudapestGO app is used for route planning and for purchasing and validating public transport tickets.
From the international airport, it is possible to take the 100E service to Deák Ferenc tér, then the M2 metro to Batthyány tér and continue on the H5 line to Filatorigát. The published guide estimates such a journey at approximately 65 minutes, excluding additional waiting, walking and festival-control time.
A car is not the best choice because access to the island, drop-off and parking depend on special traffic arrangements, while congestion increases in the evening. Bicycles and scooters can be left near K-Bridge, but they are not permitted inside the festival.
Entry rules, payment and everyday logistics
Sziget is a cashless festival. Payments can be made using a contactless card, a phone or funds loaded onto the wristband chip. When using the festival balance, it is useful to track spending in the app and check the procedure for refunding the remaining amount in good time.
Alcoholic drinks and energy drinks may not be brought onto the site. One PET bottle containing no more than 2.5 liters of water or another non-alcoholic drink is permitted, as is food in quantities intended for personal consumption. Glass objects, striking or cutting tools and other items that may endanger visitors are prohibited. Open fires, gas cylinders and gas-powered cooking appliances are not permitted in the campsite.
Ticket sales for this event are in progress. Before traveling, visitors should check the rules for bags, camping equipment and entry times again, because operational instructions may be supplemented immediately before the festival.
How to create a good three-day plan
A good schedule leaves time for walking, food, water and unplanned discoveries. For each day, it is enough to select two essential performances, two additional desirable programs and one zone for unrestricted exploration.
On the first day, it makes sense to become familiar with the island's layout before the evening performances. On the second day, more time can be spent at the smaller stages and in the arts districts. On the third day, enough energy should be saved for Florence + The Machine or Lewis Capaldi, followed by a decision on whether to finish the evening with Richie Hawtin, Dom Dolla, Boys Noize or a more intimate club program.
The audience comes from more than 100 countries, so different languages, flags, styles and age groups form part of the island's everyday appearance. First-time visitors can expect an intense pace, long walks and many simultaneous activities, but also the freedom to change their plans completely when they are attracted by a sound coming from another stage.
