Planning Sziget Festival in Budapest? From 11 to 15 August 2026, Óbudai Island hosts pop, rock, electronic music, circus and art programs. Plan your ticket purchase, choose two festival days and prepare transport, wristband collection and camping before you arrive

Sziget Festival transforms a Danube island into a city of music, art and nightlife

Sziget Festival 2026 takes place on Óbudai-sziget in Budapest from August 11 to 15. For visitors with tickets valid for the first two days, the festival stay begins on August 11 at 08:00 and includes the opening of the main program as well as the entire second day. That is enough time for major open-air pop and rock performances and for electronic, alternative and performing arts programs running deep into the night.

Sziget is not a series of concerts held in one venue. The island functions as a temporary city with music stages, circus, theater, dance, art installations, workshops, sports activities, food zones and campsites. It is precisely this breadth that distinguishes it from festivals where the only goal is to get from one headliner to the next.

SOMBR, Zara Larsson, Wolf Alice and Underworld are among the highlighted names on August 11, while Twenty One Pilots, Tash Sultana, Biffy Clyro and Ashnikko are among the main performers on August 12. These are not the only performances on those days, but landmarks around which visitors can build their own schedules.

Tickets for this event are in demand. For a two-day visit, it is particularly important to coordinate arrival, wristband collection, camping and several performers that visitors do not want to miss in advance.

A festival that is more than the main stage

The first Sziget was held in 1993, and the concept developed into an international festival where music is combined with performing arts and everyday life on the island. For the 2026 edition, the organizers are announcing more than 600 programs, including concerts, theater, circus, dance, workshops and sports. A broader description of the festival concept refers to more than 1,000 performances across approximately 50 stages and program locations over five days.

The name "Sziget" means "island" in Hungarian, but the festival identity goes beyond geography. Visitors are called Szitizens, and during the event Óbudai-sziget gains its own zones, routes, shops, reception points, medical and information points and accommodation. For a first-time visitor, the festival is easier to understand as a short stay in a separate city than as a one-day trip to a concert.

In addition to the Main Stage, important roles are played by Revolut Stage, BOLT Night Stage, Yettel Colosseum, Arzenál x Turbina: Der Klub, Budapest Park Stage, The Buzz, Magic Mirror, CIRQUE du SZIGET, Le Grand Theatre and Art Garden. The locations are intended for concerts, club programs, theater, circus, cabaret and participatory art.

Day one: pop, alternative rock and an electronic finale

The program on August 11 demonstrates Sziget's genre diversity. SOMBR represents contemporary pop focused on melodic choruses and a younger global audience. Zara Larsson brings precisely produced pop with an emphasis on dance rhythms and big choruses. Wolf Alice opens up space for alternative rock, ranging from atmospheric passages to louder guitar climaxes.

Underworld is a different kind of festival magnet. The British electronic project connects club music with a concert format, so their performance naturally leads the audience from the evening program into the nighttime part of the festival. After a pop performance on an open-air stage, it is possible to end the night in a zone dedicated to techno, house or hybrid live sets.

For the first day, it is useful to leave enough time to become familiar with the site. Óbudai-sziget is large, and walking between distant stages and denser crowds can lengthen the transition. The schedule in the app and the festival map are more important than trying to see every performer.

Day two: Twenty One Pilots and a stronger alternative direction

Twenty One Pilots lead the most prominent part of the program on August 12. Their concert approach combines alternative pop, rock, electronic music and rhythmic speech. Biffy Clyro brings a harder guitar sound, while Ashnikko connects pop, rap and electronic production with a pronounced visual identity.

Tash Sultana offers a different rhythm for the day. The multi-instrumental approach, layered construction of songs and improvisational elements can provide a good counterbalance to a dense schedule of major performances. The second day shifts the emphasis toward alternative, guitar-based and genre-hybrid music.

When planning the first two days, it is worth choosing three levels of priority:

  • performers who were the reason for deciding to attend the festival
  • one or two smaller stages that match personal taste
  • at least one circus, theater, dance or art program outside the concert schedule

Such a plan leaves room for discoveries but reduces the risk of losing time constantly moving from one end of the island to the other.

Stages, zones and the open-air experience

The Main Stage is the center of the largest gatherings and can accommodate up to 60,000 visitors. Performers with the broadest appeal are concentrated there, as are short artistic interventions between parts of the program. For popular performances, visitors should plan to arrive earlier and expect slower movement after the end.

Revolut Stage hosts major concerts that do not necessarily belong to the mainstream pop current. BOLT Night Stage and Yettel Colosseum are important for audiences who want to continue with electronic music after the program on the open-air stages. Magic Mirror, CIRQUE du SZIGET, Le Grand Theatre and Art Garden demonstrate why Sziget is not only a music festival.

Places fill up quickly. For the most sought-after performances and smaller indoor venues, it is advisable to arrive earlier because a festival ticket does not guarantee entry to every zone once its capacity has been reached.

How a two-day ticket works

For a visit from August 11 to 12, the most common model is two consecutive daily tickets. Each daily ticket is valid from 08:00 on the selected day until 08:00 the following morning. Visitors must observe the validity period stated on the voucher and keep the wristband on their wrist throughout their stay.

Sziget offers daily tickets, three-day packages, five-day festival passes and VIP variants. VIP access does not replace the basic ticket when purchased as an upgrade. It is intended for separate entrances and certain designated zones, but it is not a prerequisite for a complete festival experience.

Two consecutive daily tickets allow access to Basic Camping. Visitors can set up their own tent in permitted zones and avoid returning to the city between programs. Camping is not permitted at program locations, on evacuation routes, in fire corridors or on marked restricted areas.

Entry, wristbands and documents

Before arrival, it is necessary to complete online check-in and link personal information to the ticket. At the entrance, the voucher and a photo identification document are checked, after which a personalized wristband is issued. Entry is not possible without a completed check-in.

The main entrance is located by K Bridge. Most daily tickets, festival passes and camping vouchers are exchanged for wristbands there. H Bridge is used by certain vehicle categories, transfers and caravans. VIP visitors have a separate entrance by K Bridge.

The heaviest crowds at the main entrance are expected approximately between 17:00 and 21:00. For a performance that must not be missed, the recommendation is to arrive at least 1.5 to 2 hours earlier because the ticket, document, clothing and bag checks must be taken into account.

Before departure, it is useful to check the following:

  • the voucher or ticket saved on the phone
  • a valid photo identification document
  • completed online check-in
  • the exact ticket validity period
  • the island map and personal schedule in the festival app
  • a return plan or confirmed accommodation at the campsite

Getting to Óbudai-sziget

The most practical connection from the city is the H5 HÉV suburban railway. For the main pedestrian entrance, visitors should get off at Filatorigát station and continue toward K Bridge. During the festival period, H5 runs more frequently during both the day and night, and certain night bus routes are also reinforced. BudapestGO should be used for current departures and route changes.

Traveling by car is not the simplest choice because access to the island is restricted, the surrounding roads are congested and nearby parking spaces are not unlimited. There is also a boat transfer between Jászai Mari tér and the festival pier. The journey takes approximately 22 to 26 minutes, and sailings are planned from the afternoon until late at night.

Camping during two consecutive days

The campsites open on August 11 at 08:00 and close on August 16 at 12:00. Early entry on August 10 is possible only with the appropriate additional ticket and a compatible festival pass. For visitors with two consecutive daily tickets starting on August 11, Basic Camping is included in the conditions of stay.

Visitors may set up their own tent in available camping zones. A Leave-no-tent deposit voucher is required to bring it in. The refund process begins after the visitor shows and takes the tent away upon departure or hands it in at a designated location.

In addition to Basic Camping, there are Camping of Nations, Sziget Ville Premium, a family campsite, a caravan area and an accessible campsite. These zones have different access conditions and may require an additional reservation. In the campsite, damaging trees, blocking safety passages and making loud noise between 02:00 and 08:00 are not permitted.

Food, drinks, payment and entry rules

Food court zones operate from August 11 at 10:00 without interruption until approximately 03:00 after the final festival day. The selection includes Hungarian dishes and international cuisines, with clearly marked vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and lactose-free options. There is also a shop and a grill zone on the island, which is useful for visitors who are camping.

The festival operates without cash. Payment is possible with a contactless card, a device connected to a mobile wallet or funds loaded onto the wristband.

Each visitor may bring in one PET bottle of non-alcoholic beverage with a capacity of up to 2.5 liters. Alcoholic beverages, glass objects, tools for striking or cutting and items that could endanger others may not be brought in. Food may be brought in in quantities intended for personal consumption. Drinking-water points are available on the site, so a reusable bottle is a practical piece of equipment.

Budapest as part of the festival trip

Óbudai-sziget is located in the northern part of Budapest, on the Danube. Its proximity to the city center makes it possible to combine the festival with sightseeing, thermal baths, markets, museums and walks along the river. However, a two-day schedule can be physically demanding, so it is more realistic to choose one city activity than to try to fit an entire tourist program between nighttime performances.

It is possible to sleep in the city center, take the H5 line to Filatorigát and return at night, or stay at the campsite and visit the city during a quieter part of the day. This connection between the festival and the city is an important difference compared with events located far from urban facilities.

What a first-time visitor can expect

A first encounter with Sziget is often more intense because of the size of the site than because of the number of concerts itself. Visitors should expect long walking distances, queues at the entrance, loud overlapping zones and a program that runs from daytime workshops to morning DJ sets. Comfortable footwear, sun protection, a power bank and a prearranged meeting point make the stay easier.

The best two-day plan is not the one with the most marked performances. It is better to have several fixed points and explore smaller stages, the circus, Magic Mirror, Art Garden or a program discovered only after arriving on the island between them. Sziget builds its distinctiveness precisely in the space between headliners.

It is worth securing tickets in time. After that, the priority should shift to logistics: completing check-in, saving documents, choosing an entrance, checking transportation, deciding about camping and creating a realistic schedule for August 11 and 12.
