Oklou in Helsinki: ethereal pop moves into the vast Silver Arena space
Oklou arrives in Suvilahti at a moment when her once cult status on the fringes of experimental pop has turned into much broader international recognition. French singer, producer and DJ Marylou Mayniel has built a sound in which gentle vocals, electronic production, ambient, club rhythms and melodies that sometimes evoke early and classical music appear within the same song. The result is not conventional big-festival pop: her music often begins almost intimately, only then opening up space for stronger bass, rhythm and light.
The performance is part of the first day of Flow Festival in Suvilahti. The festival grounds open at 15:00, while according to the published schedule Oklou is on the Silver Arena stage from 21:45 to 22:45. This distinction in timing is important when planning your arrival: 15:00 marks the beginning of the festival day, not the beginning of her concert.
Oklou is scheduled between Bizi, whose set in the Silver Arena ends at 20:30, and Disclosure, whose DJ set begins at midnight. At the same time, a wide-ranging programme is taking place on other stages - names on the first day include Zara Larsson, MARINA, Cabaret Voltaire, Ana Frango Elétrico, Kettama and Ben UFO. This means the concert is not an isolated indoor evening but part of a large festival schedule, so it is worth deciding in advance which performances you want to combine with Oklou.

Why "choke enough" changed Oklou's position
For years, Oklou was known to audiences who follow experimental electronic music, alternative pop and the online club scene, but the 2025 album "choke enough" opened up a much wider space for her. Before that, an important point in her catalogue was the 2020 mixtape "Galore", a project that had already demonstrated her preference for soft synthesizers, detailed production and vocals that rarely compete with the instrumental for volume.
"choke enough" continues that aesthetic, but it is more focused on the song itself. Bladee appears on the album in "take me by the hand" and underscores in "harvest sky", while collaborators on the project include producers associated with modern experimental pop, including A. G. Cook, Danny L Harle and Casey MQ. Oklou does not sound like a simple sum of those influences. The expanded edition of "choke enough" from October 2025 added four songs - "viscus" with FKA twigs, "what's good", "the fishsong unplugged" and "dance 2". This expanded the current concert material just before an intense period of performances throughout 2026.

The most interesting question surrounding this performance is not whether her music can fill a large stage, but how it will do so. The album "choke enough" often sounds very close to the listener - the vocals are soft, the production is airy, and even when rhythms appear, they do not necessarily feel like a standard festival explosion.

At the same performance, Oklou played keyboards and recorder, moved between electronic equipment and the rest of the stage, and used visual elements that deliberately combined elegance with a slightly playful quality. This does not mean that an identical production will arrive in Helsinki. A festival performance has its own technical conditions, and none of these details should be taken in advance as confirmed for the Silver Arena. What previous concerts do show, however, is the thinking behind her performance: the songs are not simply reproduced as studio versions, but are adapted to the space and the audience.
A similar pattern was also recorded at the performance in Manchester, where "ict" and "thank you for recording" opened the concert in a calmer tone, while the energy gradually rose through "endless", "Galore" and "harvest sky". That arc suits Oklou particularly well: her music does not have to start at its loudest in order to become distinctly physical later.

Silver Arena changes the scale of the concert
Oklou performs in the Silver Arena, one of the largest spaces at Flow Festival. The arena was introduced in 2023 as the successor to the former Red Arena space. The structure measures 60 x 75 metres and accommodates up to 15,000 people.
That is an interesting choice for an artist whose music often feels intimate. In a small club, quiet vocals and tiny production details create a sense of closeness. In the Silver Arena, the same material takes on a different scale: the audience is larger, the sound image broader, and the lighting and rhythmic sections of the songs have considerably more space.
The arena is a covered festival space, giving Oklou a more controlled environment than a conventional open-air main stage. For music in which light, contrast, atmosphere and electronic details play an important role, this can be particularly effective in a later evening slot.
The Silver Arena also has a platform for visitors who need a more accessible view of the stage. Most of the festival grounds have hard and level surfaces, although gravel, kerbs and other uneven areas are present in some places. Visitors for whom accessibility is important will find it useful to study the route plan before entering the more crowded part of the evening programme.
Spaces fill up quickly, so for a position closer to the stage it is worth arriving at the Silver Arena before the performance begins, especially because the preceding programme in the space ends more than an hour earlier.
One hour within a very busy Friday
Oklou has a slot from 21:45 to 22:45. One hour is enough for a substantial festival performance, but at the same time it means there is not much room for long pauses or the entire catalogue.
The schedule also creates several interesting overlaps. MARINA performs on the Main Stage from 20:45 to 21:45, meaning she finishes exactly when Oklou begins. A visitor who wants to see both concerts will have to account for leaving the Main Stage crowd and moving towards the Silver Arena at a moment when some other visitors will probably be doing the same. At Balloon 360° Tyler Ballgame performs from 21:00 to 22:00, while Bricknasty begins in the Black Tent at 22:00.
After Oklou, more than an hour remains until Disclosure's midnight DJ set in the same arena. This leaves enough time to change stages, get food or take a break before continuing the evening.
Friday as a whole runs from 15:00 to 02:00, so Oklou is positioned in the part of the evening when the whole of Suvilahti is already in full festival rhythm. Her concert can therefore function as a transition between the earlier pop and live programme and the later club-oriented section.
Getting to Suvilahti without unnecessary detours
Suvilahti is a former industrial and energy-production district not far from the centre of Helsinki. Brick buildings, gas holders, open plazas and repurposed industrial spaces create a setting very different from a standard city stadium or green festival field.
The main festival entrance is located at Hanasaarenkatu 10. There is no car parking next to the festival grounds themselves, so public transport is the more practical option.
- Metro: the nearest stations are Sörnäinen and Kalasatama.
- Bus: use the Suvilahti and Sörnäinen (M) stops.
- Tram: useful stops are Sörnäinen (M), Lintulahti, Helsinginkatu and Kaarlenkatu.
- Public transport: the festival area is located in zone AB.
- Bicycle: north of the main entrance there is a free but unguarded bicycle parking area.
- Car: the nearest larger parking garage is in the Kalasatama area, while there is no parking next to the festival itself.
For visitors travelling to Helsinki from another country, the central location of the event simplifies logistics. The main railway station is connected to the city's public transport system, and Helsinki also has sea connections with cities around the Baltic and in Scandinavia. There is no need to arrange accommodation immediately next to Suvilahti if it has good metro or tram connections.
It is also worth allowing for temporary traffic changes around the festival. During the festival weekend, some streets around Suvilahti operate under special traffic arrangements, and traffic on Sörnäisten rantatie slows because of the large number of pedestrians.
Wristband before entry and rules worth knowing
Flow Festival has an age limit of 18+. Visitors must be able to prove their age with a valid identification document.
Before entry, the ticket is exchanged for a festival wristband. There is no exchange point at the main entrance itself, so this procedure must be completed before reaching the security check. In Suvilahti, the wristband exchange point is at Hanasaarenkatu 10 and is open on Friday from 11:00 until midnight. An additional location in central Helsinki at Lasipalatsinaukio is open on Friday from 10:00 to 20:00.
The organisers warn that the wristband collection point can be very crowded during the earlier part of Friday evening. For someone travelling to Helsinki primarily because of Oklou, completing the exchange earlier in the day can remove one unnecessary risk from the evening schedule.
A one-day wristband allows you to leave the area and re-enter during the day while it remains valid. This is useful if you arrive in Helsinki early and do not want to spend the entire period from the opening of the gates until Oklou inside the festival.
Who will enjoy this performance most
Oklou is interesting precisely because she stands between several audiences. She has enough recognisable melodies for alternative-pop listeners, enough electronic production for audiences who follow clubs and festivals, and enough unusual structures and textures for those looking for something less predictable.
Long-time listeners will get the opportunity to hear how material from "Galore" through the "choke enough" phase works in a large festival space. For audiences who discovered her through the newer album or collaborations with FKA twigs, Bladee, underscores and PinkPantheress, Helsinki offers a chance to see an artist at a stage when her concert production is already considerably more developed than at the beginning of her career.
The contrast between her slot and the rest of Friday could be particularly appealing. After the large-scale pop programme on the Main Stage, Oklou brings a quieter, more detailed and more unusual type of intensity, while immediately afterwards the festival evening moves towards DJ and club sets. In that schedule, she is not just another name between headliners, but a natural link between pop and the electronic night.

How to make the most of the evening
If Oklou is your main reason for attending, the simplest plan is to sort out the wristband earlier, travel to Suvilahti by public transport and leave enough time in your schedule to move towards the Silver Arena before 21:45. Particular care is needed if you plan to watch MARINA beforehand, because her performance ends at exactly the moment Oklou begins.
For the concert itself, there is no need to build expectations in advance around guests, special effects or an exact set list. Such elements have not been confirmed for Helsinki. It is much safer to expect what can be inferred from the current phase of her career: a focus on "choke enough", room for older material, highly detailed electronic production and a performance capable of turning gentle studio recordings into a physically more powerful concert sound.
Suvilahti provides an interesting setting for this. Instead of a traditional concert hall, Oklou performs in the middle of a post-industrial festival complex, in an arena for 15,000 visitors, during an evening in which pop, indie, experimental music and club electronic music alternate within a few minutes' walk. That combination alone is enough reason for her hour in the Silver Arena to be one of Friday's more intriguing moments for an audience that does not come to the festival only for the biggest names.
