Outside Lands 2026 turns Golden Gate Park into a city of music
Outside Lands returns to Golden Gate Park from August 7 to 9, 2026, with a program connecting pop, rock, hip-hop, R&B, electronic music, singer-songwriter music, food, drinks and visual art. The gates open every day at 11:00, the music program begins at 12:00 and ends at 22:00. The festival is conceived as an all-day journey between stages, meadows, wooded passages and themed areas. Its identity grows out of San Francisco: alongside the closing performances, local gastronomy, California wines, craft beer, street art and spaces dedicated to the city's communities are important. The first edition was held in 2008, and 2026 marks 18 years of the festival in Golden Gate Park.
Tickets for this event are in high demand. Ahead of the festival weekend, the GA, GA+ and VIP categories were sold out, while the availability of the remaining premium options may change.
Three days, three different closing choices
The program is spread across eight stages and spaces: Lands End, Twin Peaks, Sutro, Panhandle, SOMA, Dolores', Duboce Triangle and Cocktail Magic. The most important decision for visitors is not only whom they want to see, but how much they are prepared to walk between distant parts of the festival grounds. Several of the most sought-after performances take place at the same time, so trying to watch every artist's full set is not realistic.
Friday: Charli xcx, Turnstile, GloRilla and an electronic finale
The first day is led by Charli xcx, who performs at Lands End from 20:40 to 21:55. During the same closing period, GRiZTRONICS, Modest Mouse and Hyperbeam play on other stages, so the audience will choose between a major pop performance, bass music, indie rock and house production.
Friday also brings earlier overlaps. GloRilla is at Lands End from 17:15 to 18:15, while Tinashe performs at Twin Peaks from 17:10 to 18:00. Labrinth and Clipse begin simultaneously at 18:45 on different stages. Turnstile then takes over Sutro from 19:20 to 20:20.
Saturday: The Strokes versus The xx, PinkPantheress and Lane 8
Saturday's finale shows most clearly why route planning is important. The Strokes perform at Lands End from 20:35 to 21:55, while The xx are at Twin Peaks from 20:10 to 21:25. The overlap lasts for most of both sets, and the stages are located on different sides of the festival grounds. At a similar time, PinkPantheress performs at Sutro from 20:45 to 21:45, while Lane 8 closes SOMA from 20:25 to 21:55.
Earlier in the day, Djo, Dijon, Lucy Dacus, Ethel Cain, Ben Böhmer, Snow Strippers and Yard Act perform. Djo is at Lands End from 18:50 to 19:50, while Dijon performs at Twin Peaks from 18:30 to 19:20. A good plan is therefore based on a few priorities and realistic walking time.
Sunday: RÜFÜS DU SOL, Baby Keem and two Death Cab for Cutie sets
Sunday ends with a four-way choice. RÜFÜS DU SOL performs at Lands End from 20:25 to 21:55, Baby Keem at Twin Peaks from 20:40 to 21:55, Death Cab for Cutie at Sutro from 20:25 to 21:40, while Boris Brejcha closes SOMA from 19:55 to 21:55.
Death Cab for Cutie also has an earlier performance from 12:40 to 13:30, so the audience can see the band at the beginning of the day and leave the evening for another closing set. Empire of the Sun, Mariah the Scientist and Not for Radio perform later.
How to choose stages without constantly running
Lands End is the program's main anchor and the location of the biggest closing performances. Twin Peaks offers a separate series of major artists on the other side of the grounds. Sutro often combines alternative rock, singer-songwriters and R&B, while Panhandle gives more space to emerging artists. SOMA is focused on a continuous electronic program and longer DJ sets.
Dolores' celebrates queer and trans communities and the DIY spirit of San Francisco nightlife. Duboce Triangle, among the eucalyptus trees in McLaren Pass, offers more intimate performances, while Cocktail Magic combines music, bar concepts and magic shows. Every part of the park has its own rhythm and reason to stay.
A practical approach for a first visit is to choose one must-see performance in the early, middle and closing parts of the day. Space should be left between them for food, queues, refilling water and walking. The festival's mobile app allows visitors to save a personal schedule, view the map and receive notifications, but the plan should remain flexible enough for changes on the ground.
Golden Gate Park is not an ordinary festival venue
Golden Gate Park covers 1,017 acres and is approximately three miles long, stretching from the area near Haight-Ashbury toward Ocean Beach. It was created from sand dunes, and development of the park began in 1870. Today it connects meadows, lakes, gardens, museums, wooded areas and recreational zones. Outside Lands uses its western section, where large open areas alternate with narrower paths and passages among the trees.
The atmosphere changes constantly - from the large crowd in front of Lands End to more sheltered areas such as Duboce Triangle. Distances on the map may look shorter than they are in reality, especially before the closing performances.
The festival has no camping. Staying overnight in the park or in a vehicle is not permitted, so visitors coming from outside San Francisco should arrange accommodation and their return journey after the program ends in advance. It is worth securing tickets in time and only then coordinating accommodation and transport reservations.
Tickets and differences between festival areas
The offer is structured around one-day and three-day passes. A three-day pass uses one wristband for the entire weekend and cannot be divided by day. The basic GA category provides access to the music program, food areas and general festival attractions.
GA+ adds expedited entry, a separate lounge, upgraded restrooms, non-alcoholic drinks and the option to purchase food and drinks within the area. VIP includes dedicated entrances, separate viewing areas near Lands End, Sutro and Twin Peaks, a VIP courtyard, premium bars, upgraded restrooms and a dedicated retail area for festival merchandise.
Golden Gate Club includes areas near the three main stages, all-day food and drinks, golf-cart transportation between areas, the Skydeck near Lands End, concierge support, charging stations, Wi-Fi and air-conditioned restrooms. SOMA Social Club is a separate premium concept for adult guests.
Places disappear quickly, especially when limited availability opens for an individual day or premium area. Before purchasing, visitors should check what is included, because a festival ticket does not cover Night Shows, the late-night concerts in the city's clubs and venues.
Food, drinks, art and attractions between performances
Taste of the Bay Area brings together 100 restaurants and 53 cuisines, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. The offer is a cross-section of the wider San Francisco area's food scene, so time for a meal should be set aside outside the busiest periods.
Wine Lands brings together 26 wineries from Northern California, Beer Lands more than 20 breweries, and Cocktail Magic six themed bars. Age restrictions and an identification check apply to alcohol purchases.
Grass Lands is an area for visitors aged 21 and over, with a marketplace of 35 brands and a separate cannabis consumption space operating in accordance with local rules. It is also the only part of the festival where cash is still accepted; the rest of the grounds operate cashlessly.
Between music slots, it is also worth looking for the following attractions:
- Outsider Art with exhibitions and daily live painting.
- Artists in Residence with new murals and works created for the park.
- McLaren Vintage with 12 local vintage clothing vendors.
- City Hall, the festival space for weddings and vow renewals.
- The Mission, a space dedicated to social engagement and local initiatives.
Getting there: public transportation takes priority over cars
There is no general parking for the festival, and parking in the surrounding neighborhoods is strictly monitored. Visitors from other parts of the Bay Area can use BART to reach downtown and then continue by Muni transportation or shuttle.
The shuttle departs from Bill Graham Civic Auditorium toward the south entrance of Golden Gate Park. Rides begin at 11:00, the last departure to the festival is at 20:00, and return rides continue until one hour after the music program ends.
Muni routes 5 Fulton and 5R Fulton Rapid travel toward Fulton Street and 30th Avenue, while N Judah connects downtown with the south side of the park. After the program, route 5X to Civic Center and the UN Plaza BART station is also available. Free self-parking areas for bicycles are provided on the eastern and southern sides of the grounds, but bicycles are not permitted inside the festival area.
The main entrances are:
- North Gate - access from 26th Avenue and Fulton Street.
- South Gate - access from Martin Luther King Jr Drive and Metson Road.
- ADA entrance - 36th Avenue and JFK Drive.
- VIP entrances - on the northern and southern sides, depending on the pass category.
The box office for collection and resolution of wristband issues is located in Marx Meadow near 25th Avenue and Fulton Street. On Friday and Saturday, it is open from 10:00 to 21:00, and on Sunday from 10:00 to 20:00.
Wristbands, bags and entry rules
The wristband is the ticket. It is waterproof, must not be cut, twisted or removed, and the same wristband is used on all three days for a three-day pass. Re-entry on the same day is generally not permitted. A visitor who must leave the grounds should speak to a supervisor at the entrance before exiting and register the departure.
Clear bags made of plastic, vinyl or PVC are permitted, as are small bags up to 6 x 8 x 3 inches that do not have to be transparent, and empty hydration reservoirs with a capacity of less than 2.5 liters and no more than one additional pocket.
Prohibited items include:
- weapons, illegal substances, alcohol brought in from outside, glass and cans;
- professional video and audio equipment, GoPro cameras, large detachable lenses, tripods and selfie sticks;
- umbrellas, skateboards, scooters, bicycles, carts, lounge chairs and open flames;
- standard backpacks with hydration bladders that do not meet the stated restrictions.
Free water bottle filling stations are available on the grounds, so bringing an empty reusable bottle is useful. The festival operates cashlessly, except within Grass Lands. Golden Gate Park is a tobacco-free area, and strollers are not permitted because of the uneven terrain.
What first-time visitors can expect
Outside Lands attracts an audience that rarely stays within a single genre. A day can begin with a new artist at Panhandle, continue with an R&B performance at Twin Peaks, move into a queer dance program at Dolores' and end with a pop, rock or electronic set.
The best experience usually comes from a balance between planning and spontaneity. The schedule should be studied in advance, but visitors should not try to turn the day into a nonstop race. Queues for entry, food and restrooms grow before the most popular time slots, and moving between Lands End and the more distant stages requires time.
Visitors traveling to San Francisco may find it useful to view the festival as part of a stay on the western side of the city. Golden Gate Park borders the Richmond and Sunset neighborhoods and stretches toward Ocean Beach. Accommodation closer to the park can shorten the return journey after the program, while staying downtown offers easier connections to BART, the Muni network and the shuttle departure point.
Tickets for this event are in high demand, and the final days before the festival are not the time to rely on improvisation. The wristband, identification, payment method, return route and three or four priority performances per day should be arranged before arriving at the entrance.
