Rock The Country in Hastings: two days of country, rock and outdoor festival life
Rock The Country is coming to Hastings, Michigan, with a format that clearly shows what this traveling festival wants to be: a blend of modern country, southern rock, more classic country names and performers who cross the boundaries between country, rock, rap-rock and American roots music. The festival program takes place over two days, on Saturday, August 8 and Sunday, August 9, at the Barry Expo Center complex, also known as Barry County Fairgrounds.
Hastings is one of seven stops on the Rock The Country tour in 2026. This year's program also marks the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, which is an important part of the identity of the entire tour. Instead of a traditional festival located in a large city park or stadium, Rock The Country chooses fairgrounds and exhibition complexes and smaller American towns. It is precisely this format that distinguishes it from numerous large country festivals concentrated around metropolitan areas.
In Hastings, Kid Rock and Jason Aldean top the bill, while a broad range of performers is scheduled between them and the earlier slots - from Brantley Gilbert, Ashley Cooke and Chase Matthew to Treaty Oak Revival, Uncle Kracker and the veterans of Shenandoah.

Saturday brings Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert and Ashley Cooke
Saturday's program is headlined by Kid Rock, a performer whose career has moved for decades from rap-rock and hard rock toward southern rock and country. Such a musical profile fits the concept of Rock The Country well, as the festival does not try to remain within a strictly defined country formula.
Joining him is Brantley Gilbert, whose work sits at the intersection of contemporary country and a heavier southern rock sound. Ashley Cooke, a representative of the newer generation of mainstream country performers, appears on the same day, so the character of the program will change depending on the performer instead of remaining in the same stylistic register throughout the day.
Uncle Kracker further broadens that range. His career includes pop-rock, country and crossover material, making him a logical choice for a festival where genre boundaries are intentionally broad.

Sunday concludes with Jason Aldean
The second festival day is headlined by Jason Aldean, one of the performers who have shaped commercial American country over the past two decades. His position at the top of Sunday's bill gives the second day a more pronounced mainstream country finale than Saturday's broader, genre-crossing approach with Kid Rock.
One of the more interesting names appearing before him is Treaty Oak Revival. The Texas band builds its sound on country, rock and southern rock, so it will particularly appeal to visitors for whom a strict division between rock and country is not important.
Chase Matthew represents the younger side of contemporary country, while Shenandoah provides a connection to a more traditional country sound and an older generation of listeners. This means Sunday's program stretches from newer performers to names with a considerably longer history on the American country scene.
Sunday's listed performers are Jason Aldean, Treaty Oak Revival, Chase Matthew, Shenandoah, The Creekers, Danny Worsnop, Sadie Bass, Colton Bowlin and Scott Wolverton.
This division makes a multi-day ticket particularly worthwhile for visitors who are interested in more than just one headliner. Saturday leans toward a stronger country-rock and crossover sound, while Sunday's finale moves more toward recognizable contemporary country.
Barry Expo Center is not a typical concert venue
Barry Expo Center is located at 1350 N M-37 in Hastings. It is a large fairground complex that is home to the Barry County Fair rather than a traditional concert arena.
The complex covers approximately 160 acres and includes six barns, three outdoor arenas, a half-mile racetrack, a campground with approximately 260 sites with water and electrical hookups, and parking areas for up to 4,000 cars. Barry Expo Center also has two banquet halls, but Rock The Country uses the broader fairground area for its festival format.
This is important information for first-time visitors. A visitor is not entering a hall where a seat, cloakroom and numbered section are immediately available after the ticket check. Here, visitors should expect movement between festival zones, open space, grassy and fairground surfaces, and a significantly longer stay at the venue.
A standard GA ticket does not include a seat or chair. The organizer allows one standard folding chair per person to be brought in, but the chair must be carried in without a bag or cover.
Spots are disappearing quickly.
GA, GA+, VIP and Front Porch offer different ways to experience the festival
Rock The Country has several ticket tiers, and the differences between them are not limited to their position relative to the stage.
GA provides access to the general festival areas during the selected day or both days, depending on the type of ticket. Food, drinks, festival merchandise and other activities are available within this area, but the GA ticket itself does not provide a reserved seat.
GA+ adds a separate viewing area in front of the stage on a designated side, a shaded area, separate food and beverage amenities, and a restroom area that includes air-conditioned trailers.
VIP goes a step further. It includes access to the GA and GA+ areas, a dedicated VIP area in front of the stage, a covered space, a separate entrance, an air-conditioned lounge with a live feed of the performances, and additional amenities within the VIP section.
Front Porch is a different concept again. This category includes an elevated seating area, access to other festival zones, a separate entrance, dinner and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as the possibility of returning to the festival after leaving until a specified evening time. A festival chair is also included on a first-come, first-served basis, along with weekend parking.
For visitors planning to spend the entire day in front of the main stage, the difference between these categories may be more important than at a standard concert lasting only a few hours.
Camping turns the weekend into a three-night stay
Although the music program lasts two days, camping is organized for three nights - from Friday, August 7 to Monday, August 10. This allows visitors to arrive the day before the first festival program and leave on the morning after the second day ends.
Camp check-in is scheduled for Friday from 8:00 a.m. to midnight and Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. A camping wristband allows movement between the campground and the festival grounds, which is an important difference compared with regular visitors.
For regular visitors, a one-entry-per-day rule applies. After leaving the festival grounds, including going out to the parking lot, they cannot return on the same day. Campers are allowed to move back and forth between the campground and the festival.
Camping options are available for RVs as well as cars and tents. One campsite includes one vehicle and one camping unit. Additional vehicles must be left in a separate parking area. A festival ticket is not included in the camping package, so concert admission and camping are separate items.
The campground is expected to include a store with basic supplies, food options and programming on the Fanzone Stage. Showers are available separately. RV camping includes options with and without electrical hookups, while sewage and water hookups are not standard inclusions in every package.
For groups wishing to camp next to one another, the organizer recommends arriving together because adjacent sites are not guaranteed.
What can be brought onto the festival grounds
For a festival like this, preparing your bag before departure can save considerable time at the entrance. The bag does not have to be transparent, but it will be inspected upon entry.
Permitted items include an empty reusable plastic water bottle and two factory-sealed bottles of water per person. Mobile phones, portable chargers, non-aerosol sunscreen, one standard folding chair per person and empty personal soft-sided coolers are also permitted.
Chairs must be brought in without a bag or cover.
The list of prohibited items includes weapons and knives, metal cups and metal insulated containers, outside food and beverages, tents and umbrellas, wagons, fireworks, laser pointers, professional cameras, video cameras and professional audio recording equipment. Pets are not permitted, with the exception of service animals.
The festival is intended for all age groups. Every visitor needs their own ticket, while children aged two and under may enter without one.
An ADA viewing platform with wheelchair ramp access is also available at the venue.
Payments, wristbands and re-entry
Rock The Country operates as a cashless festival. Most vendors accept cards, contactless payments via mobile devices and registered RFID festival wristbands.
It is therefore worth preparing at least one cashless payment method before entering. Visitors using an RFID wristband are advised to complete activation before arriving at the entrance so the process does not have to be handled during the busiest period.
The re-entry rule is particularly important to remember. If a visitor is not staying in the campground, after the ticket is scanned and they enter the festival grounds, they should plan to remain inside until the end of their festival day. Going out to the car is not a short break followed by automatic re-entry.
This means that water, a chair, portable charger, sun protection and other permitted items that may be needed during the day should be prepared before the first security check.
Arriving by car and parking
Barry Expo Center is located along M-37, north of downtown Hastings. For a large part of the audience, traveling by car will be the most practical option because this is a fairground complex outside a typical urban concert setting.
Parking for Rock The Country is a separate item and is not automatically included with a standard festival ticket. Daily and weekend parking options are available. Festival information states that parking lots generally open around noon, with a note that the precise opening time is announced closer to the event.
Barry Expo Center as a complex normally has space for up to 4,000 cars, but this does not mean that every space will be available for every type of festival parking pass. For an event of this size, it is more practical to expect heavier traffic around the entrances and not plan to arrive immediately before the performer you want to see.
Campers have a different arrangement. Once a vehicle is positioned in the campground, it cannot freely enter and leave. Additional vehicles use a separate parking area, and access from that area is possible with a camping wristband.
Hastings as a base for the festival weekend
Hastings is located in the central part of Barry County, in Michigan's Lower Peninsula, on the Thornapple River. The city lies between the larger urban areas of Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek and Lansing, so some visitors may combine the festival with a stay in one of those cities.
Downtown Hastings is considerably smaller than those metropolitan areas. The downtown area is compact, with local restaurants, shops, parks and riverside areas, which can be useful for visitors who have a few hours between arriving in town and heading to the festival venue.
For guests staying for the entire weekend, it is also important to arrange transportation back after the program in advance. Barry Expo Center is not located in a large urban area with a dense public transportation network, so visitors should not rely on the type of transportation approach that would be common for a concert arena in the center of a large city.
What first-time visitors can expect
Rock The Country in Hastings is not merely a series of evening concerts. The program is designed as a full-day festival experience at a fairground complex, with camping, different viewing zones, food, drinks, festival merchandise and additional programming for campers.
Musically, the most important characteristic is the breadth of the lineup. Kid Rock and Uncle Kracker represent the crossover side of the festival, Brantley Gilbert a strong country-rock line, Jason Aldean and Chase Matthew contemporary mainstream country, Ashley Cooke the new generation of country performers, Treaty Oak Revival a Texas blend of country and rock, and Shenandoah a connection with earlier periods of American country music.
As a result, the audience does not need to have the same musical reason for attending both days. Someone may build Saturday around Kid Rock and Brantley Gilbert and Sunday around Jason Aldean and Treaty Oak Revival. It is precisely this difference between the two days that gives the program greater breadth than if both ended with performers of almost identical profiles.
First-time visitors should above all think like festivalgoers rather than an audience attending a single concert: arrive early enough, know the re-entry rules, bring the permitted items they will need during the day, check their wristband and plan their departure after the program.
It is worth securing tickets in time.
