FK Austria Wien - WSG Tirol: new date changes the entire context of the match
FK Austria Wien and WSG Tirol were supposed to play in the fourth round of the Austrian Bundesliga on Sunday, 23 August, but that date is no longer current. After Austria secured a place in the European playoff, the league match at the Generali Arena was moved to Wednesday, 2 September at 18:30. This leaves the weekend between the Vienna club's two European matches free, while the clash with the Tyroleans will take place only after both teams have played additional league fixtures.
The change of date is also important for the sporting context. Before their trip to Vienna, WSG Tirol have a home match against Salzburg and then an away match at Austria Lustenau, so the table ahead of their head-to-head clash will look different from how it does today, 16 August.
At the moment, Austria are without a point and without a goal scored after two league rounds, while WSG have one point. That gives the home side a clear motivation to end their poor league start as quickly as possible, while the visitors have an opportunity to take points at a ground where they already managed to remain unbeaten last season. Stephan Helm's team opened the league season with two defeats: 0:3 away to Wolfsberger AC and 0:2 away to LASK. In Europe, Austria were finding a way to goal, while they failed to score in their first two league appearances. Ahead of the third round against Hartberg, Helm stressed the need to transfer the positive emotion from the European matches into the league.
Austria have strongly involved younger players throughout the summer and the start of the season. In the return leg against Beitar Jerusalem, 18-year-olds Daniel Nnodim, Vasilije Marković and Philipp Maybach were in the starting lineup, while Jonas Feddersen and Matteo Schablas also received minutes from the start. Around them, Helm has an experienced core consisting of Aleksandar Dragović, Manfred Fischer and Reinhold Ranftl.
In attack, the options include Johannes Eggestein, Kelvin Boateng, Julian Hettwer, Manprit Sarkaria and Noah Botić, but the fitness status of part of that group needs to be monitored closer to the match.
Absences that currently need to be monitored
On 14 August, ahead of the away match in Hartberg, Austria announced several squad-related problems. Since the match against WSG will not be played until 2 September, this information is not automatic confirmation that the same players will also miss this game.

Philipp Semlic leads a team that changed considerably during the summer. According to the club's announcement, six new players were in the starting lineup in each of the first two league rounds. This explains why WSG are still looking for complete automatisms in possession, but at the same time they have freshness and more pace going forward.
In attack, Semlic has Lukas Hinterseer, Nikolai Baden Frederiksen, Ademola Ola-Adebomi, Michael Olakigbe, Husein Balić and Thomas Goiginger, while David Gugganig, David Kubatta, Marco Boras and Drew Murray are among the defensive options.
Two injuries had already been confirmed ahead of the third round. Thomas Sabitzer was unavailable because of a muscle injury, while Quincy Butler was out because of a cruciate ligament injury. Butler's is the more serious problem, while Sabitzer's condition needs to be monitored ahead of the trip to Vienna.
Tactical battle: Austria's width against WSG's directness
