Ovation Global DMC expanded its African portfolio to 15 destinations for business events

Ovation Global DMC announced on May 13, 2026, that it had expanded its portfolio in Africa to a total of 15 destinations, seeking to strengthen its offering for organizers of corporate events, conferences, incentive travel, sales meetings and executive gatherings. According to the company's announcement, the new structure gives clients a broader choice of destinations on the continent, with coordination through a single partner system, shared standards and local operational support. The portfolio lists Morocco, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Zanzibar, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Seychelles and Mauritius. Ovation states that Egypt and Mauritius had already been established within the network, while the expansion includes an additional 13 destinations in North, East and Southern Africa and in the Indian Ocean.

Expansion aimed at corporate buyers and agencies

According to information published by Ovation Global DMC, the expanded African portfolio is designed as a solution for companies and agencies that want to plan programmes across several countries while avoiding separate management of a series of local suppliers. The company positions itself as a global destination management company operating through more than 60 owned offices, more than 60 strategic partner destinations and a network of more than 150 destinations in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and the Americas. Such a model, according to the company's description, should make it possible for an event in Cape Town, Marrakech, Nairobi or Kigali to be planned within the same quality and accountability management system used in other parts of the network.

For the business events market, precisely this operational layer is important. A destination management company, or DMC, in practice deals with the local delivery of programmes: transport, welcoming participants, venue coordination, permits, suppliers, supporting experiences, crisis planning and connecting the conference part with tourism or incentive elements. In the African context, where business centres are often combined with more remote natural locations, safari programmes, coastal extensions or visits to protected areas, such coordination becomes especially important. In its announcement, Ovation therefore emphasizes the combination of local knowledge, access to locations and a global framework as the main value of the expansion.

Fifteen markets with different profiles

The list of destinations shows that Ovation is not targeting only one type of business travel. Morocco, Egypt, Kenya, Rwanda and South Africa are highlighted in the announcement as examples of stronger business and conference hubs, while destinations such as Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Zanzibar, Seychelles and Mauritius are more often associated with programmes that include nature, leisure, reward travel and experiential tourism. Such a combination enables the planning of programmes in which formal meetings are held in urban or congress centres and are then enhanced by shorter stays in destinations with a strong natural or cultural offering.

The announcement cites the Maasai Mara, Victoria Falls, the Okavango Delta, Zanzibar and Seychelles as examples of attractive locations. These are destinations that are often used in business tourism for high added-value programmes, but that require precise logistics, safety assessment and well-planned transfers. On the other hand, cities such as Cairo, Cape Town, Nairobi, Kigali and Marrakech are important because of international connectivity, hotel infrastructure, conference venues and the ability to accommodate larger groups. It is precisely the range between congress centres and experiential destinations that gives the African portfolio broader commercial significance.

Africa strengthens its visibility in business tourism

The expansion of Ovation's portfolio comes at a time when Africa is recording a stronger recovery in travel and greater visibility in the meetings and incentive travel industry. In the latest available data for 2025, UN Tourism states that around 1.52 billion international tourist arrivals were recorded worldwide, approximately 60 million more than in 2024. According to the same source, 2025 marked a new record year for international arrivals in the post-pandemic period, despite inflation in tourism services and geopolitical challenges. In earlier data, UN Tourism reported for 2024 that international tourism had almost returned to pre-pandemic levels, with around 1.4 billion international trips.

These trends do not relate exclusively to leisure travel. In business tourism, the recovery of air traffic, renewed demand for live events and the strengthening of major international trade fairs have stimulated interest in destinations that offer a combination of business infrastructure and a strong experiential element. ICCA, presenting the edition of GlobeWatch Business Analytics – Country & City Rankings 2024, stated that its research team collected data on more than 11,000 meetings held in 2024 across all world regions. ICCA also emphasized that the international meetings industry is developing toward more detailed analytics, regional insights and measurement of the long-term impact of events on local communities.

Morocco receives additional attention because of the 2030 World Cup

Among the destinations receiving special attention in this expansion is Morocco. In its announcement, Ovation states that it is one of the most timely new destinations in the portfolio, because the country is preparing for its role as co-host of the 2030 FIFA World Cup. FIFA states that the 2030 tournament will be jointly hosted by Morocco, Portugal and Spain, while the centenary celebration and three matches will take place in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay. For business tourism, this is important because major sporting events often accelerate investments in stadiums, transport, accommodation capacity, safety protocols and the international promotion of a destination.

Marrakech is specifically mentioned in Ovation's announcement as a city that already has a strong position in the meetings, incentive programme and luxury corporate travel segment. At the same time, Morocco has a wider network of tourism-recognizable cities, including Casablanca, Rabat, Fez, Tangier and Agadir, which makes it interesting for programmes that combine business meetings, cultural content and shorter regional tours. Although the very fact of organizing a major sporting event does not automatically guarantee growth in the MICE market, it can increase the country's visibility and accelerate infrastructure projects that are also relevant for business events.

Egypt and Mauritius as already established points of the network

Ovation states that Egypt and Mauritius had already been established in its network before the latest expansion. Egypt also has additional industry validation through the SITE Crystal Awards 2025. According to SITE's announcement, Emeco Travel Egypt won recognition in the category Excellence in Incentive Travel: Africa/Middle East, and Ovation stated in its own announcement that this was a strategic partner representing Ovation Egypt DMC. The award-winning programme was the Egypt Diamond Invitational 2023 Incentive Experience, which Ovation uses as an example of the ability to deliver complex incentive programmes in the region.

The SITE Crystal Awards carry weight in the incentive travel industry because they reward programmes assessed according to creativity, execution, impact and professional standards. In its announcement of the 2025 awards, SITE emphasized that the recognitions cover different regions and categories, from socially responsible programmes to regional excellence in incentive travel. For DMC networks, such recognitions serve as external validation of capability, but they do not replace the operational verification of an individual project. For larger corporate programmes, safety assessment, clearly defined supplier chains, insurance, crisis communication and compliance with client rules remain essential.

One partner for more complex routes

The main message of Ovation's expansion is the possibility of planning African programmes through a unified coordination framework. In practice, this may mean that the organizer does not have to contract local partners separately for each destination, but can speak with one global team that then involves local offices or strategic partners. According to the description of the Strategic Partner Programme, Ovation selects partners according to criteria such as industry reputation, operational excellence, experience, compliance with health and safety requirements and the ability to shape destination experiences that go beyond basic logistics.

Such a model is especially relevant for programmes that include several countries or demanding transport combinations. For example, a conference in Nairobi can be followed by a shorter safari programme in Kenya or Tanzania, a business meeting in Cape Town can be connected with the wine region or national parks, while programmes in Zambia and Zimbabwe can be built around Victoria Falls. In such itineraries, the risks are not only commercial but also operational: flight changes, seasonality, weather conditions, capacities of local accommodation facilities, entry rules, safety assessments and the sustainability of visits to sensitive locations. That is why centralized coordination is one of the arguments that DMC networks increasingly emphasize to corporate clients.

IMEX Frankfurt as the stage for presenting the portfolio

Ovation Global DMC announced that it would present the expanded African portfolio at IMEX Frankfurt 2026. According to official information from the organizer, IMEX Frankfurt takes place at Messe Frankfurt from May 19 to 21, 2026, with a specialized education day on May 18. The organizer describes the fair as a place where the global meetings, events and incentive travel industry gathers, and in the information for 2026 it states that destinations, venues and suppliers from more than 150 countries are participating. For Ovation, this timing is important because it comes only a few days after the announcement of the expansion of the African portfolio.

Trade fairs such as IMEX often serve as places where destinations, DMCs and hotel groups compete for the attention of international buyers. For African destinations, this is an opportunity to present themselves not only as leisure destinations but also as competitive locations for conferences, strategic meetings and reward travel. In this context, a portfolio of 15 destinations enables Ovation to approach buyers with a regional story, not only with individual markets. Such an approach could be interesting to agencies that manage multi-year programmes and are looking for an alternative to saturated or more expensive destinations in Europe, North America and parts of Asia.

Broader significance for African destinations

For the destinations included in the portfolio, presence in a global DMC network can increase access to international buyers, but also intensify requirements for delivery standards. Corporate clients increasingly seek clear procedures for sustainability, safety, accessibility, data protection and responsible work with local communities. This is especially important in programmes that include natural attractions, protected areas or culturally sensitive locations. The success of this kind of expansion will therefore not depend only on the number of destinations, but also on how consistently quality can be delivered on the ground.

Ovation's expansion reflects a broader shift in the business events industry: buyers are looking for destinations that can offer meaningful differentiation without giving up professional control and predictable delivery. Africa has strong potential in this respect, but markets within the continent differ significantly in transport connectivity, infrastructure, seasonality and regulatory conditions. For this reason, it will be important for event organizers to assess each destination separately, according to programme objectives, participant profile, flight availability, safety context and the actual capacity of local partners. Ovation Global DMC now claims that it can offer a broader African framework for such assessments and delivery, encompassing 15 destinations from Morocco and Egypt to South Africa, Mauritius and Seychelles.
