About this venue
Letno gledališče Khislstein is a distinctive open-air summer cinema and stage set within the stone walls of the Khislstein complex. Its amphitheatre layout keeps you close to the action, creating an intimate atmosphere for everything from film screenings to concert and theatre nights under the stars. Capacity is designed for a focused experience: 476 seated places and approximately 800 standing places.
Inside, the venue stands out for clear sightlines and a sound that carries well for both spoken word and music. A key advantage is the retractable canvas roof, helping events go ahead even when the weather turns. There’s also the on-site Khislstein 12.56 café, making it easy to grab a drink before the show or during a short break.
You’ll find the entrance at Tomšičeva ulica 44, Kranj, Slovenia, right next to the castle and the cultural/museum area. The easiest option is to park in the nearby Šubičeva or Trdinova garages and walk a few minutes to the gate, following signs for “Khislstein”/“Letno gledališče”. About the city: Kranj
Kranj, the heart of Gorenjska, surprises with a blend of historic charm and a lively vibe that naturally draws fans of sport, music, and major events. While it feels friendly and compact, the city carries the energy of a place where something is always happening, making it an excellent choice when you want to combine a night out, matchday excitement, or a concert with a relaxed urban getaway.
One of Kranj’s biggest advantages is its practical accessibility: getting here is easy, and moving around is simple and stress-free. Local city buses by Arriva (a network of urban routes) link key neighborhoods with the center and Kranj Railway Station, which makes arrivals and transfers straightforward. If you’re traveling by train with Slovenske železnice, Kranj sits on an important rail line that connects it well to larger hubs in the region, and for air travel the closest option is Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU) near Brnik, just a short drive from the city.
When you’re not at the event, Kranj delivers a great “tourist bonus”: the old town center with its promenade and welcoming cafés is perfect for a pre- or post-show coffee, and a standout highlight is the Kokra River Canyon—a green oasis right beneath the historic core that offers a quick escape into nature. Walk up to Khislstein (Kieselstein) Castle and nearby viewpoints, or simply catch the city’s rhythm in its squares and narrow streets—everything is close, and the experience still feels rich and complete.
