Teatro Camões

Teatro Camões is one of Lisbon's distinctive contemporary theatres, built as part of the Expo ’98 complex in what is now Parque das Nações. Designed by architects Manuel Salgado and Marino Fei, the building combines simple geometric forms with a blue metal-clad stage volume and a large glazed foyer facing the Tagus River. The auditorium currently accommodates approximately 827 spectators, while the theatre is closely associated with dance as the home of the Companhia Nacional de Bailado.

The interior was conceived for demanding dance, music and stage productions. The auditorium features a technical ceiling above the seating area, an orchestra pit and an acoustic shell for orchestral performances, while spacious foyers create a natural transition between the riverside setting and the performance hall.
