Auditorio Guelaguetza Oaxaca is one of the most distinctive open-air event venues in Oaxaca de Juárez. Built into the slope of Cerro del Fortín, the amphitheatre features a characteristic semicircular seating arrangement inspired by classical Greek and Roman theatres and accommodates approximately 12,000 spectators. Its elevated setting and open architecture provide broad views, while the large canopy covering part of the seating area has become one of the venue’s defining architectural features.
Tiered stands surround the spacious stage, providing clear sightlines for cultural performances, dance productions and concerts. As an open-air amphitheatre, the sound experience and protection from the weather depend on the seating location and the production setup for each event, while covered sections offer additional shelter. The venue includes restrooms, lighting, marked access routes and other facilities designed to support large-scale events.
The auditorium is located at Carr. Internacional s/n, Cerro del Fortín, Oaxaca de Juárez, Mexico. The main access can be reached by road across Cerro del Fortín, while visitors approaching from the lower city area can also use the panoramic stairway leading toward the venue; some bus services stop directly in front of or close to the auditorium.
