Royal Festival Hall at Southbank Centre is one of London's most recognisable concert halls and an important example of post-war modernist architecture. Opened in 1951 as part of the Festival of Britain, it is now protected as a Grade I listed building. Its main auditorium accommodates around 2,700 visitors, making the hall suitable for major orchestral concerts, contemporary music, gala performances and a wide range of cultural events.
The interior was designed with concert sound and acoustic separation from the surrounding structure in mind, while the seating layout provides clear views of the stage from different parts of the auditorium. Spacious foyers are an important part of the building's character, and Royal Festival Hall also includes several places to eat and drink, including Festival Bar & Kitchen, Ballroom Cafe and Skylon restaurant. Visitors can therefore comfortably spend time within the complex before or after an event.
The venue is located at Belvedere Road, London, SE1 8XX, United Kingdom. Waterloo station is approximately 200 metres away, and visitors approaching from Belvedere Road can reach the main level via Mandela Walk; step-free access is available via an external lift by Southbank Centre Square. A passenger drop-off point is located beside Southbank Centre Square, while parking immediately around the complex is limited.
