Krk Music Fest from 19 to 21 June turns the town of Krk into an open-air stage

Krk Music Fest will once again, from 19 to 21 June, bring together musicians, folklore groups, choirs, klapa vocal ensembles, dancers and lovers of musical film stories at several recognizable locations in the town of Krk. According to the announcement by the Tourist Board of the Town of Krk, the festival is held on the occasion of World Music Day and the beginning of summer, and the program is conceived as a three-day public event with free admission. The main festival venues will be the Krk waterfront, Vela placa and Kino Krk, which spreads the program through the city center and connects music, local tradition, dance, film and the summer atmosphere. The organizers point out that the aim of the event is to present music as part of the town's tourist and cultural identity, but also to offer content that can attract different generations. For visitors planning to stay in the town for several days, it is useful to check accommodation offers in Krk in good time, especially because the festival takes place at the very beginning of the summer season.

The festival is organized by the Tourist Board of the Town of Krk with the support of the Town of Krk and the partner Valamar Riviera, and the program includes local ensembles and performers as well as bands that will take over the major evening slots outdoors. According to available information from the program announcement, this year's concept maintains a balance between the traditional heritage of the island of Krk and contemporary concert formats. Within the same festival framework, performances by folklore societies, choral and klapa performances, promenade music, dance programs, pop-rock, Latin, disco, funk and soul concerts, and film screenings dedicated to great musical names have been announced. Such a program structure continues the model by which Krk Music Fest has developed as an event that does not rest on only one major concert, but on a multi-day experience of the town. In this way, the festival simultaneously functions as a cultural program, a summer town celebration and an event that announces the beginning of a more intensive tourist period.

Music, public space and the beginning of summer

World Music Day, also known through the tradition of the French Fête de la Musique, is celebrated on 21 June, and the official website of the French Ministry of Culture states that the event was launched in 1982 and is now celebrated on five continents. The idea of that day is based on free concerts, performances by professional and amateur musicians, and the performance of music in public spaces, which makes the concept especially suitable for towns with squares, pedestrian zones and seaside promenades. Krk Music Fest relies precisely on such logic: instead of closing music inside one hall, the program spreads to squares, the waterfront and the cinema, so the festival content gradually becomes part of the everyday rhythm of the town. According to the international platform Make Music Day, the celebration of music on 21 June is now held in more than a thousand cities in 120 countries. In the local framework, such an approach further emphasizes the role of music in shaping the atmosphere of a destination and in presenting the cultural identity of the community.

For the town of Krk, the choice of Vela placa, the waterfront and Kino Krk is an important part of the festival identity. Vela placa is one of the central town meeting places, the waterfront carries a strong summer and Mediterranean character, and the cinema enables a different, more intimate program format that complements the outdoor concerts. According to earlier announcements by the Town of Krk and the Tourist Board, Krk Music Fest has traditionally been connected with the beginning of summer and combines concerts, tradition, film and additional content in the town space. This year's edition, according to the submitted program, continues that model with an emphasis on local performers in the earlier part of the evening and larger concert performances in the later time slots.

Friday brings tradition, klapa expression and the Golden Pop Rock Show

The first day of the festival, Friday 19 June, opens with Folklore Society Poljica, which will introduce the audience to the program with traditional Krk dances and music. Later in the evening, the Women's Choir of the Association of Pensioners of the Town of Krk and klapa Vejanke will perform on Vela placa, which means that the beginning of the festival clearly relies on local vocal and folklore traditions. Such a choice of performers is important because it shows that the festival does not use heritage only as a decorative addition, but as an equal part of the program before the major evening concerts. In the context of the island of Krk, where local customs, song and dance are an important part of cultural recognizability, such an opening of the festival gives the program clear local rootedness.

After the program on Vela placa, a promenade concert by Gradska glazba Krk has been announced on the waterfront. Town bands in many coastal communities have a special role in public festivities, processions, holiday celebrations and summer events, and their performance on the waterfront further connects the festival with a long tradition of music in open spaces. In the festival schedule, this performance also serves as a transition between the introductory traditional part and the later pop-rock program. In this way, the first evening is built gradually, from local heritage toward a widely known repertoire of world hits.

The central Friday concert will be the performance by LevelOne Band with the program Golden Pop Rock Show. According to the festival announcement, it is an eight-member band that performs hits from the golden era of pop and rock, including songs by artists such as David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Roxette, Fleetwood Mac and Queen. Tribute and cover programs, when performed convincingly, often have a strong festival effect precisely because they offer the audience immediately recognizable material and encourage communal singing. In Krk, this performance will close the first festival day in the spirit of nostalgia, dance energy and pop-rock classics.

Saturday combines island heritage, dance choreographies and the Latin rhythms of Cubismo

The second festival day, Saturday 20 June, continues with a combination of local tradition, dance and a major evening concert. The program on Vela placa will be opened by Cultural and Artistic Society Vrh, which will present the folklore heritage of the island of Krk through dance and music. This will be followed by the program of Dance Studio Incanto titled Summer Vibes, which introduces a more contemporary rhythm and youthful energy. The evening will be further enriched by the performance of klapa Kaštadi, maintaining the festival's recognizable Mediterranean vocal line.

The main concert of Saturday evening has been entrusted to Cubismo, one of the best-known Croatian bands when it comes to Latin, Afro-Cuban and jazz influences. According to publicly available data and earlier announcements of their performances, during three decades of work Cubismo has built a recognizable sound that combines dance rhythms, brass sections, percussion, improvisational elements and concert communication with the audience. The band has received multiple awards and is known for collaborations with Croatian and international musicians, and its concerts are often described as a combination of club energy and festival spectacle. In the program of Krk Music Fest, their role is clear: to turn Saturday into the most dance-oriented evening of the festival. Latin and Afro-Cuban rhythms work especially well in the summer ambience of the waterfront.

Cubismo also brings a more international musical language into the festival program. While the first parts of the evening are directed toward the island, klapa song and local societies, their performance expands the program toward global dance idioms and jazz tradition. Such a contrast naturally continues the idea of World Music Day, which places the diversity of styles and the accessibility of music to the public at the center. Cubismo's performance confirms that the festival does not rely only on local character, but also on performers with recognizable concert reputation.

Sunday finale with vocal performances, a children's choir and Electric Corn

The final day, Sunday 21 June, coincides with World Music Day, which gives the program additional symbolic weight. The evening begins with a performance by Cultural Society Kornić, which will present part of the island's cultural heritage through song and dance. After that, the Vocal Group Kurikta has been announced, an ensemble of experienced singers with many years of experience in choral and vocal music. The Children's Choir Rokeri sv. Jakova from Kornić will also perform in the program, bringing a different, brighter and family dimension to the final evening. The inclusion of a children's choir gives the finale an additional local and family dimension.

The grand finale of the festival will belong to Electric Corn, announced as a disco, funk and soul live show with twelve musicians. According to the program, the band's repertoire relies on dance hits from the seventies, eighties and nineties, but performs them in a live concert format with an emphasized rhythm section, vocals and brass players. Such a lineup enables a richer sound, stronger arrangements and a stage impression close to large dance orchestras. The disco, funk and soul repertoire is suitable for the festival finale because it offers the audience familiar rhythms and an optimistic ending to the three-day program. In the context of an event dedicated to music in public space, Electric Corn brings the final emphasis on dance, togetherness and direct communication with the audience.

The Sunday program thus rounds off the thematic arc of the entire festival. From traditional societies and vocal groups, through a children's choir, to a large funk and disco concert, the final evening shows the range of generations and musical styles included in this year's Krk Music Fest. It is particularly significant that the finale takes place precisely on 21 June, on the day marked in the international calendar as a day of public celebration of music. In practice, this means that during that weekend Krk will present music not only as a stage program, but as content that changes the rhythm of the entire town center. Such an approach is in line with the original idea of Fête de la Musique, according to which music leaves formal spaces and becomes accessible to everyone.

Film program at Kino Krk as an additional layer of the festival

Alongside the concerts and outdoor performances, Krk Music Fest also includes a film program at Kino Krk. On Friday 19 June, a screening of the film EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert has been announced, a musical program dedicated to Elvis Presley and his concert performances. Elvis Presley remains one of the key figures of popular music in the 20th century, and film screenings of his performances offer the audience the opportunity to experience concert energy through archival and cinema format. Kino Krk thereby becomes a space in which the musical theme of the festival continues beyond the outdoor stages.

For Saturday 20 June, a screening of the biographical film Michael, dedicated to Michael Jackson, has been announced. According to the official film website and Lionsgate distribution information, the film opened in cinemas on 24 April 2026, was directed by Antoine Fuqua, and the lead role is played by Jaafar Jackson. The official announcement of the film describes it as a portrayal of the life, public and private challenges, and career of one of the best-known performers in the history of popular music. The inclusion of this title in the Krk Music Fest program further connects the festival with global pop culture and the legacy of an artist who strongly influenced the contemporary music industry. Since it is a recent film, its screening gives the film part of the program a current relevance that complements the concert schedule.

A free-admission festival with an emphasis on program accessibility

One of the most important pieces of information for the audience is that admission to the festival program is free. According to the organizers' announcement, free access applies to concerts, performances and film content, making Krk Music Fest accessible to a wide circle of visitors. Free admission is also in line with the international spirit of World Music Day, which emphasizes openness, public space and the inclusion of as many people as possible in musical content. In a tourist town such as Krk, such a program can simultaneously benefit residents, weekend visitors and guests already staying on the island.

The accessibility of the program refers not only to the price of admission, but also to the spatial arrangement of the events. Since the festival content takes place at well-known town locations, the audience does not have to rely on complex logistics, but can follow the program through natural movement around the town center. Such a format is especially suitable for the beginning of summer, when the evening life of coastal towns in any case moves to open spaces. The Krk waterfront and Vela placa enable a direct encounter between musicians and the audience, while Kino Krk offers a sheltered space for film screenings. Combined with diverse genres, this arrangement opens the festival to different interests.

Broader significance for the town and island of Krk

Krk Music Fest also has broader significance for the positioning of the town of Krk at the beginning of the tourist season. Events held in June often play an important role in extending and structuring the season because they offer a concrete reason to arrive before the peak of the summer crowds. In this case, the festival relies on several elements that are important for the destination: local heritage, public town spaces, free content, recognizable performers and an additional film program. According to earlier announcements by the Town of Krk, Krk Music Fest connects music, tradition and film with additional summer content, whereby the town seeks to turn the first days of summer into a recognizable event. Such programs can also have an effect beyond the concert slots themselves, because they encourage walks through the town and a longer stay in the destination.

For the local community, the festival is important also because it includes associations, cultural and artistic societies, choirs, klapa ensembles, dance groups and professional musical bands in the same schedule. This does not create the impression that major concerts replace the local scene, but that the local scene is the foundation onto which larger programs are added. Such a balance is especially important in smaller communities with pronounced tourist pressure, because cultural events can simultaneously present the authenticity of the community and offer attractive content to visitors. Krk Music Fest is therefore not only a series of concerts, but an event that connects tradition, entertainment and public space over three days. This year's edition, according to the announced schedule, develops that concept through three clearly profiled evenings: Friday in the spirit of tradition and pop-rock, Saturday in the rhythm of dance and Latin music, and Sunday as a finale dedicated to vocal performances, a children's choir and a large disco-funk finale.
