Fenerbahçe moves for Marcus Rashford: Istanbul giant explores terms for major transfer
Fenerbahçe has included Marcus Rashford among its main targets for strengthening the attack in the summer transfer window, and according to a report by the British newspaper The Sun, contact has already been established with the English footballer's representatives. The purpose of the initial talks is reportedly to determine under which financial and sporting conditions the 28-year-old forward would be willing to consider a move to Istanbul. At this stage, however, there is no confirmation that an official offer has been sent to Manchester United or that Fenerbahçe has reached an agreement with the player. The information should therefore be viewed as the beginning of an exploration of possibilities rather than as a transfer close to completion. According to the same source, the Turkish club is prepared to spend substantial money, but no specific transfer fee or proposed salary has been publicly disclosed.
After the end of the 2025/26 season, Rashford returned to Manchester United, where he remains under contract. Barcelona brought him in on a one-year loan in July 2025 with an option for a permanent transfer, as the Catalan club officially confirmed at the time, but that option was not exercised before the loan expired. The England international has therefore once again found himself in a situation where he must decide whether to try to rebuild his role at Old Trafford or accept a new project outside England. According to the information currently available, he does not want to make a decision under pressure and intends to consider all the sporting and financial aspects of a potential transfer. His contract with Manchester United runs until the summer of 2028, meaning the final outcome depends not only on the wishes of the player and the interested club, but also on the assessment of United's management.
Contact with representatives is only the first step
Fenerbahçe's interest is currently based on media reports, without any official announcement from any of the clubs involved. According to the British report, the Istanbul club contacted Rashford's team to gain a clearer picture of his expected salary, the possible length of the contract and the player's willingness to continue his career in the Turkish Süper Lig. Such contacts are common in the early stages of a transfer window because they allow clubs to assess the feasibility of a deal before submitting a formal offer. In Rashford's case, the overall cost of the package is particularly important, because in addition to paying Manchester United a transfer fee, personal terms would also have to be agreed with a footballer who still has two years remaining on his current contract. Until at least the basic parameters have been agreed, the talks do not mean that a transfer is imminent.
The claim that Fenerbahçe is prepared to "spend substantial money" also does not reveal whether the club will attempt to negotiate a permanent transfer, a loan with an obligation to buy or another type of arrangement. Because Rashford is under contract until 2028, Manchester United is not forced to accept the first offer, but at the same time it must assess his sporting role and market value after two consecutive loan spells. Season at Barcelona restored his continuity
Rashford's spell at Barcelona is an important part of assessing his current market position. On 23 July 2025, the Catalan club officially announced that it had agreed a loan with Manchester United until 30 June 2026, including an option to buy. During the season, he was given minutes on the left wing and through the centre of the attack, while his pace, runs in behind the defence and ability to play in several attacking roles gave coach Hansi Flick additional tactical flexibility. According to official La Liga statistics, Rashford made 32 appearances in the 2025/26 Spanish league season, scoring eight goals and recording seven assists. Ahead of the World Cup, Barcelona stated that he had registered 14 goals and 12 assists in all competitions up to that point, showing that the loan spell was considerably more productive than the period that preceded his departure from Manchester.
Despite those figures, Barcelona did not retain the English forward permanently. The official loan announcement did not state the value of the purchase option, while British media later reported a figure of approximately £26 million, or around €30 million. Because that amount was not publicly confirmed in the club's statement, it cannot be regarded as the official price Manchester United would now necessarily demand from Fenerbahçe. The total cost could be the biggest obstacle

Even when two clubs find an acceptable structure, personal terms can become decisive, especially for a player who has spent most of his career in the world's most financially powerful domestic league. For that reason, it may be important for Fenerbahçe to structure the offer through bonuses, variable payments or deferred instalments. If he were to remain outside the first-team plans, his value could decline as the contract approaches its final years. Rashford does not have to accept the first opportunity
For the player himself, the choice is not merely a question of money. At the same time, a move to the Süper Lig would represent a major change after a career spent in England and one season in Spain. Rashford must assess the style of play, his expected position, his relationship with the coach, the quality of the squad and his own international ambitions. Reports that he is in no hurry to decide therefore appear logical, especially while the transfer window remains open and the market for forwards can change rapidly.
Fenerbahçe's interest nevertheless carries weight. This is a club openly seeking a return to the top of Turkish football and already possessing a squad made up of a number of experienced international players. Rashford would probably receive substantial playing time and responsibility in Istanbul, but he would simultaneously face expectations to deliver goals, assists and results immediately. In an environment where every point is compared with Galatasaray's performance, adaptation would have to be rapid. His team will likely compare the sporting importance of the role being offered with opportunities that may arise in other European leagues.
At this moment, the most precise description of the situation is that Fenerbahçe has opened a channel of communication and is attempting to determine whether it can turn an ambitious idea into a feasible deal. There is no official offer, no agreement with Manchester United and no confirmation that Rashford has approved the transfer. His strong season at Barcelona has increased interest, but his contract until 2028 and the complexity of the overall financial package leave considerable room for negotiations. The next move will depend on whether the Istanbul club decides to submit a concrete offer after its initial exploration of the terms. Until then, Rashford remains a Manchester United player, while Fenerbahçe is one of the interested clubs, not a confirmed new destination.
