In the year 2025, the Association of Croatian Travel Agencies (UHPA) has selected Zadar County as the recommended domestic destination of the year. This decision is the result of recognizing the exceptional cultural heritage, natural beauties, and diverse tourist offer that the region provides to visitors.

Cooperation for Destination Promotion

UHPA and the Tourist Association of Zadar County have signed a business cooperation agreement through which the county will be intensively promoted throughout 2025 across all communication and promotional channels, public events, and the press. This cooperation aims to further highlight Zadar County on the tourist map of Croatia and the world.

Natural Attractions and Outdoor Activities

Zadar County encompasses a variety of natural beauties, including Paklenica National Park, known for its impressive canyons and trails ideal for hiking and free climbing. Vransko Lake Nature Park offers opportunities for bird watching and fishing, while the Zrmanja River attracts rafting and kayaking enthusiasts with its crystal-clear waters and picturesque canyons.

Cultural Heritage and Historical Landmarks

The city of Zadar, with a history spanning over three thousand years, offers a wealth of cultural and historical landmarks. Visitors can explore the Roman forum, the Church of St. Donatus from the 9th century, and modern installations such as the Sea Organ and Greeting to the Sun. Nearby is also the city of Nin, the oldest Croatian royal city, known for its archaeological sites and the Church of the Holy Cross, often referred to as "the smallest cathedral in the world".

Gastronomy and Enology

The gastronomic offer of Zadar County reflects the richness of Mediterranean cuisine. The island of Pag is renowned for its world-famous Paški cheese and lamb, while the vineyards of Ravni Kotari produce top-quality wines from indigenous varieties. Local restaurants offer fresh seafood, homemade olive oil, and traditional sweets such as fritule and kroštule, providing visitors with an authentic taste of Dalmatia.

Events and Occasions

Throughout the year, the county hosts numerous events that enrich its tourist offer. "Zadar Wine Festival" brings together winemakers from across the region and gives visitors the opportunity to taste the best wines. "Škraping" on the island of Pašman attracts extreme sports enthusiasts, while "Biograd Boat Show" showcases the latest trends in boating. These events, along with many others, contribute to a dynamic and diverse offer for visitors of all interests.

Sustainable Tourism and Future Development

In recent years, Zadar County has been making efforts to develop sustainable tourism, focusing on the preservation of natural resources and cultural heritage. Initiatives such as the promotion of cycle tourism, the use of renewable energy sources in accommodation facilities, and educating the local population on the importance of sustainability contribute to creating a balance between tourist development and environmental conservation. Plans for the future include further improvement of infrastructure, diversification of the tourist offer, and strengthening cooperation with local communities to ensure the long-term prosperity of the region.

Tourism desk

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
