Eighteenth Sarmijada in Laktec: Cultural and Culinary Spectacle

On Saturday, November 23, 2024, the Fire Department in Laktec will host one of the most important events dedicated to preserving the tradition of the Zagreb County – Sarmijada. This is already the eighteenth time this unique festival is being held, bringing together enthusiasts of sauerkraut and culinary skills. The event begins at 6:00 PM, and the organizer is the Laktec Sauerkraut Producers Association, which actively promotes this indigenous product.

Competition in the Preparation of Traditional Dishes

This unique event attracts three-member teams from across Zagreb County, competing in the preparation of two dishes – sarma, which is mandatory, and a second dish of their choice, emphasizing Laktec sauerkraut as a key ingredient. Sauerkraut, recognized as a trademark of the Zelina region, reflects the rich cultural heritage and gastronomic identity of the area.

A professional jury, composed of renowned chefs and experts in traditional cuisine, evaluates the dishes based on various criteria, including taste, presentation, and creativity. Competitors vie not only for the prestigious title of winner but also for the preservation and promotion of local culinary traditions.
