According to a Page Six report, the concert took place before a sold-out crowd, which was particularly noteworthy considering that ticket sales through AXS began only on August 28, just over a week before the performance. North performed material from her debut EP N0rth4evr, as well as unreleased songs, giving the concert the additional role of introducing the next phase of her songwriting work. Her parents Kim Kardashian and Ye, also known as Kanye West, were in the audience and came to support their daughter, but, according to several American media outlets, they watched the performance from separate parts of the venue.
Sold-out The Vic as the first major solo test
The Chicago concert was important above all because it was the first time North West carried an entire evening on her own as the main performer in a traditional concert venue. It was not her first appearance onstage without her parents, nor her first solo festival performance: in June, she performed at the Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash festival in the greater Chicago area. Still, The Vic represents a different format, with an audience coming primarily for one performer and a program that has to sustain the entirety of a solo concert. Jam Productions' official website states that The Vic can accommodate around 1,400 visitors, or around 1,000 in a fully seated configuration. The organizer also states that the historic theater, opened in 1912 as the Victoria Theatre, became one of the recognizable music venues in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood over the decades.
The context of the venue itself further emphasized the transition from brief guest appearances and festival performances toward a solo concert format. According to Page Six, North performed songs from the EP N0rth4evr during the evening, as well as some material that has not yet been officially released. InStyle also reported that a sample from her father's song Coldest Winter was used in the program, connecting her new music with her family's musical legacy without turning the concert into a joint performance with her parents. Published footage and media reports describe North as the central performer of the evening, while her parents remained in the audience. This kept the emphasis on her own repertoire and her ability to lead a performance before a full venue.
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West together in the venue, but separately
The fact that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were in the same venue to support their eldest daughter attracted the most attention outside the music itself. People states that both watched the concert, but from different sides of the venue, while Page Six writes that West filmed the performance from the balcony in the company of his team, while Kardashian watched from another part of the venue with friends. Such an arrangement fits the fact that the former spouses have led separate private and professional lives for years after their divorce was legally finalized in 2022. Their arrival at the same event was nevertheless a clear sign of shared support for their daughter at a moment that carried symbolic significance for her career. According to People, West filmed parts of the concert during the performance, while Kardashian shared scenes from the venue on her social media.
Media interest in their relationship with each other was expected, but no joint performance by the parents was recorded at the event itself, nor was the focus of the official program on their reunion. More important is that both appeared as support for an underage performer who is increasingly building her own public identity. Kardashian and West have four children together, and North is their eldest child. Reports about the concert did not reliably confirm whether her brothers and sister were also in the venue, so such a claim would not be justified. The clearest confirmation in publicly available information is the presence of both parents and the fact that they watched the concert separately.
N0rth4evr laid the foundation for the solo performance
The concert builds on North West's first more complete solo release. According to Apple Music, the EP N0rth4evr was released on May 1, 2026, and contains six songs with a total running time of approximately 11 minutes. The release includes H0w Sh0uld ! f33l, D!e, #N0rth4evr, Th!s t!m3, W0ah and Aishite (ζγγ¦). The platform classifies it by genre as hip-hop and rap, while music media highlight influences of rage rap, alternative rock, metal, emo aesthetics and hyperpop in its sound. Such a combination also corresponds to the visual identity North has been building in recent months around blue hair, Japanese pop-culture references and alternative fashion.
Before the EP, she had already gained experience on recordings by other performers. Apple Music's biographical notes recall her contribution to the project Vultures 2, a guest appearance on FKA twigs' album EUSEXUA, as well as production work for younger performers from the online rap scene. Jam Productions states that her first solo studio single PIERCING ON MY HAND was released in February 2026, and she also performed the song as a surprise at one of her father's major performances in California. Such guest appearances gave her early experience with large audiences, but also raised the question of whether she could sustain interest outside the context of her parents' celebrity reputation. The sold-out solo performance at The Vic was therefore a more concrete test of her appeal as a separate performing name.
Concert followed the cancellation of the tour with Molly Santana
The September 5 performance gained additional importance because it took place only a few weeks after the planned joint tour by North West and rapper Molly Santana fell through. NME reported in late July that the Molly x North Kimokawaii Tour, announced on June 16 and planned as a series of 14 North American concerts, was canceled shortly before it was due to begin. The first performance was scheduled for August 5 in Dallas, while Toronto, Los Angeles and Chicago were also among the dates. Jam Productions still lists the Chicago concert by North and Santana, which was supposed to take place on August 19 at The Vic Theatre itself, as canceled. The reason for the complete cancellation of the tour has not been publicly explained in detail.
At the time, according to NME, North confirmed on social media that the tour would not take place and told the audience that she was preparing something special. The solo concert in Chicago, announced afterward, proved to be the first major response to that change of plans. Instead of a multi-date joint tour, she got the opportunity to test her own program in the same venue where her joint performance with Santana had previously been planned. Choose Chicago described the event in its announcement as a special headlining performance following the sudden cancellation of the summer tour. The fact that the concert was sold out, according to media reports, gives that change additional significance, although one performance alone does not make it possible to draw conclusions in advance about the long-term viability of a future tour.
Chicago was also important for Ye's tour that weekend
The choice of Chicago also had a broader family and musical context. Ye grew up in Chicago, and immediately before his daughter's performance he held two major concerts at Soldier Field stadium. The stadium's official website confirms performances on September 3 and 4, 2026, both beginning at 8 p.m., as part of his current concert activity. North therefore held her solo performance one day after her father's second stadium concert, in the same city but in a much more intimate venue. The difference between the large Soldier Field and The Vic further shows that her current career is not a simple replica of her father's arenas and stadiums, but is for now developing through smaller venues, festivals, guest appearances and digitally released music.
Chicago had already played an important role for North during 2026 because she performed in June at Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash in Bridgeview, a suburb southwest of the city center. In an interview with Dazed published in August, she said that she wanted to pursue music in the long term and described her festival performance as an experience for which she felt she had been ready even earlier. Dazed described her EP as a blend of rage rap, emo sound, hyperpop, alternative rock and metal, which fits with the way North is trying to distinguish her own taste from the musical identity of her parents. At the same time, her famous surname and family infrastructure remain an unavoidable part of how her career is perceived. That is precisely why every larger solo performance also becomes a test of whether audiences can remain interested in her as a performer, rather than only as a member of one of America's most famous families.
A career developing under unusually intense public scrutiny
North West is 13 years old, and her music career is unfolding under circumstances that differ significantly from the path of most young performers. Since birth, she has been part of a globally famous family, so almost every public step she takes simultaneously attracts the attention of entertainment media, the fashion industry and her parents' audiences. This gives her access to production, stages and publicity rarely available to performers of her age, but at the same time means that her work is constantly compared with the careers of Kim Kardashian and Ye. In its August profile, Dazed emphasized that North is trying to articulate her own taste through music, fashion and Japanese cultural references, while she herself made it clear in the interview that she sees music as a serious life direction. In assessing that path, however, it is important to take into account her age and the fact that her artistic identity is still developing.
The concert at The Vic is therefore more relevant as a developmental milestone than as final confirmation of a future superstar. For now, there is no officially confirmed new schedule of solo touring that would replace the canceled Kimokawaii Tour. Based on official announcements from the organizer and several independent reports, it can be confirmed that North West performed at The Vic Theatre on September 5, that she was the main performer of the evening, and that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were present in the venue. Page Six reported that the concert was sold out and that the parents watched the event from separate parts of the venue. Apple Music confirms that N0rth4evr is her debut EP from May 2026, while Jam Productions confirms the concert time, the all-ages availability of the event and basic information about the venue. NME and Jam Productions also confirm the previous cancellation of the joint tour with Molly Santana, including the planned Chicago date at the same venue. It has not, however, been officially announced when the songs that were reportedly performed as new material will be released, or whether Chicago will be followed by a new series of solo concerts.
For North, this concluded a weekend that placed her music at the center of attention independently of the fact that both parents were in the city. Ye's stadium performances and Kardashian's presence attracted additional attention, but the concert at The Vic had its own clear purpose: to present North as a performer capable of leading an entire evening. After the canceled tour, the sold-out Chicago performance showed that audience interest in her solo work exists at least at the level of a mid-sized venue. The next steps will depend on new music, continuity of performances and whether the interest so far grows into a stable concert audience. For a thirteen-year-old performer, that process is only beginning, but September 5, 2026, remains an important date in her transition from the role of the famous child of celebrity parents toward an independently credited music career.
