Bakrar officially unveiled by Al Ahly: Algerian striker signs three-year contract
Mounsef Bakrar is a new Al Ahly player, the Egyptian club from Cairo announced on 28 July 2026. The Algerian striker joins the African giants from Dinamo and has signed a contract for three seasons. This concludes a transfer that was intensively reported on throughout July in Croatia, Egypt and Algeria, while the two parties coordinated the financial terms and administrative details. In its official announcement, Al Ahly confirmed the duration of the contract and the player's arrival from the Zagreb club, but did not disclose the transfer fee. According to information published by several sports media outlets, Dinamo will receive a fixed amount of three million euros, while the final value of the deal may increase through bonuses.
The official confirmation came after Essam Serag El-Din, head of Al Ahly's contracts department, travelled to Croatia to finalise the deal. The Egyptian club stated that the financial and administrative procedures had been completed in coordination with Wael Gomaa, Al Ahly's director of football. Such wording confirms that the negotiations covered both the club and player portions of the agreement and that no formal issues remain unresolved. Bakrar therefore leaves Dinamo after one season and moves to one of the biggest and most closely followed clubs in African football. For the 25-year-old striker, this also represents a return to the African continent after four years spent in Croatia and the United States of America.
Fixed transfer fee confirmed in the media, bonus amount not officially disclosed
Al Ahly and Dinamo did not specify the financial structure of the transfer in their publicly available announcements, so the details are based on media reports. Several sources cite a guaranteed transfer fee of three million euros, a figure that had been repeated since the beginning of the final stage of negotiations. Estimates of the additional bonuses are not entirely consistent: some media outlets report a possible 500,000 euros, while others mention a larger bonus package and a percentage of a future sale. Due to these differences, the amount above the fixed three million euros cannot currently be considered officially confirmed. Bakrar joined Dinamo on 1 August 2025 after two seasons in the American-Canadian MLS. The Zagreb club presented him at the time as a striker who was already familiar with the Croatian championship, having played for Istra 1961 during the 2022/23 season. His return to Croatia proved successful: according to figures published by Croatian sports media, Bakrar made 42 appearances for Dinamo in all competitions, scored 18 goals and provided seven assists. He helped the club win the Croatian championship and the national cup, finishing his only full season with the Zagreb club with a domestic double. Such a performance explained why Al Ahly was prepared to pay a multimillion-euro transfer fee and offer him a multi-year contract.
His importance to Dinamo was not limited solely to finishing attacks. What is beyond dispute, however, is Al Ahly's record in the African Champions League and its long-term dominance in Egypt. Ahead of the 2025 Club World Cup, FIFA highlighted the Cairo club as the participant with the highest number of domestic league titles among the teams in the field at the time. Al Ahly's official website now lists 45 league championships, further increasing the gap over its domestic rivals. Bakrar is therefore entering an environment in which second place is often considered a failure and every new striker is judged by his goals in the biggest matches.
Al Ahly's stature also brings visibility extending far beyond Egypt's borders. The club has an enormous fan base, regularly fills stadiums and plays matches that attract audiences throughout Africa and the Arab world.
