Bayern signs Ismael Saibari: Moroccan attacker signs until 2031 and strengthens Kompany's rotation
Bayern München has completed one of the more notable deals of the summer transfer window and confirmed the arrival of Ismael Saibari from PSV Eindhoven. The Moroccan international, who in Eindhoven developed into one of the Dutch champion's most productive and tactically useful players, has signed a contract until June 30, 2031, according to the Bundesliga in an announcement dated July 1, 2026. The transfer is important for the German champion from both a sporting and strategic perspective: Vincent Kompany gets a player who can operate between the lines, in the wider attacking area and, when needed, as a false nine, increasing the number of solutions around Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala and the other attacking options.
Bayern did not publicly announce the transfer fee in the official materials available on the day the transfer was announced. According to Sky Sport information, the deal is worth approximately between 50 and 55 million euros, while the Dutch public broadcaster NOS had earlier reported that PSV would receive 55 million euros for Saibari. NOS described that amount as the biggest outgoing transfer in PSV history, ahead of the sales of Hirving Lozano, Cody Gakpo, Ibrahim Sangaré and Malik Tillman. Such an estimate places Saibari's departure among the most significant transfers from the Eredivisie in recent years, especially because it concerns a player who in the Netherlands went through a development path from the second team to one of the key figures in the side.
Five-year contract and a clear role in Bayern's attack
According to the Bundesliga, Saibari has signed a five-year contract that ties him to Bayern until June 30, 2031. In the club hierarchy he arrives as an attacking midfielder, but his value for Kompany does not lie in only one position. At PSV he played as a central attacker, in the half-space behind the striker, in wide attacking positions and, in certain phases, as the most advanced player. Because of that profile, Bayern can use him as direct competition in the number ten role, as a rotation option on the wings or as an additional player who arrives in the final third from the second line.
In his first statement after the transfer, according to the announcement carried by the Bundesliga and the German agency dpa, Saibari stressed that Bayern is a club to which children in football are often attached as a symbol of the highest level. The Moroccan international said that he wants to win major trophies and that Bayern's style of play suits him because it allows him to play naturally, aggressively and with high intensity. He especially singled out Kompany, stating that the coach had a major role in his decision. That statement is important because it shows that the transfer is not merely an administrative strengthening of the roster, but also a move connected with a clear coaching vision.
Sporting director Christoph Freund, according to the Bundesliga, described Saibari as a player who brings versatility, intensity, courage in play and a goal-scoring threat. Freund also recalled that Saibari won three consecutive Dutch league titles with PSV and gained experience in the Champions League. Board member for sport Max Eberl, according to a dpa report published by WELT, said that Saibari would give Bayern's attack additional quality and unpredictability. Such assessments from the club fit the profile of a player who does not depend only on the final pass or shot, but on the ability to change the rhythm of an attack, receive the ball between the lines and immediately attack space.
Transfer accelerated after major performances at the World Cup
Saibari arrives at Bayern at a moment when his international reputation rose further during the 2026 World Cup. According to the Bundesliga, the Moroccan international scored in all three group matches, while WELT states that he attracted attention already with a goal against Brazil, after which he continued a run of important performances for Morocco. That context strengthened the impression that Bayern did not react only to a brief tournament flash, but to continuity that Saibari had previously shown in Eindhoven. Still, the World Cup further accelerated the market dynamics because the value of players who confirm club form on the big stage often changes quickly.
Sky Sport reported in mid-June that the deal between Bayern and PSV was completed after the player had previously agreed personal terms with the German club. The same source stated that Saibari was Kompany's explicit wish, which explains why Bayern tried to finish the agreement before the end of the major tournament. Clubs in such situations often try to get ahead of potential competition, especially when a player simultaneously has a good club season and a visible international tournament. According to the available information, Bayern acted early for exactly that reason and set up a long-term contract as part of the project for the next cycle.
From PSV's development structure to the club's most expensive outgoing deal
Saibari was born in Terrassa, Spain, and according to PSV and the Bundesliga, his football path took him through Belgium before his arrival in Eindhoven. In 2020, PSV announced that Saibari had arrived from KRC Genk and joined the young team, after previously being part of the development systems of Anderlecht and Genk. That part of his career is important for understanding his profile: he is not a player who immediately arrived as a finished star, but a talent who, through the second team, senior minutes and gradually greater responsibility, built the status of a first-team player.
According to the Bundesliga, Saibari played 142 official matches for PSV, scored 42 goals and recorded 29 assists. During that period he won three Dutch league titles, two Dutch cups and three super cups, making him part of one of PSV's most successful generations in the more recent period. NOS states that in the season before the transfer he made 37 appearances, scored 19 goals and added nine assists, including a goal in the Champions League precisely against Bayern. Such productivity explains why Bayern does not view him only as a squad-depth player, but as a footballer who already has a proven ability to decide matches.
The Dutch broadcaster NOS particularly emphasized that 55 million euros, according to its information, is the record sale in PSV history. The same report stated that only certain Ajax players had been sold from the Eredivisie for larger amounts, including Antony, Frenkie de Jong, Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martínez. That places Saibari's transfer within a wider sequence of high-value departures from Dutch football, but with one important difference: in this case PSV sold a player who went through an important part of his development inside the club and left as a fully established key figure in the team.
What Saibari brings to Kompany's model of play
Kompany has built at Bayern a team that can play with high intensity, strong possession and quick attacks into space after winning the ball. Saibari fits into that model because he combines physical strength, technique in receiving under pressure and the habit of attacking the final third. Unlike classic wingers who seek isolations near the touchline, he can receive the ball in the central zone, turn toward goal and connect the midfield with the attack. That is especially important for a team that already has a pronounced centre-forward in Kane and a creative carrier in Musiala.
In practice, Saibari can relieve Musiala in matches in which the opponent closes the central space, but also open additional passing lanes to Kane when the English striker drops to receive the ball. His presence can also change the way Bayern attacks low blocks: instead of relying only on wide breakthroughs, Kompany gets a player who can enter the half-space, combine in short passes and attack the second wave. When Bayern plays against opponents who leave more space, Saibari can also operate more vertically, especially in transition after pressing.
The rotation aspect is also important. Bayern enters the 2026/27 season with domestic competitions, European obligations and the additional calendar pressure that follows clubs with a large number of internationals. A player who can cover several positions reduces the need for specific replacements for every role and gives the coach greater flexibility in preparing matches. That is exactly why Bayern officials in public statements emphasized not only Saibari's technique, but also his energy, mentality and readiness for a high tempo.
Bayern opens a new chapter after a dominant season
According to the official Bundesliga profile, Bayern finished the 2025/26 season at the top of the German league with 89 points and an extremely convincing goal difference. In such a context, reinforcements do not arrive only to fix one weakness, but to keep the team competitive and prevent predictability. The arrival of Saibari fits that logic because Bayern is not changing the foundation of the attack, but adding a profile that can expand the existing repertoire. That is particularly important for a club that measures itself every season through the Bundesliga, the Champions League and the domestic cup.
The Bundesliga states that Bayern opens the new season with a match against Borussia Dortmund in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup on August 22, 2026, before beginning the defense of its league title. Such a schedule gives Saibari little time for club adaptation after international duties, but also provides an early high-intensity match in which new players can show how they fit into the system. Since this is a long-term contract until 2031, the first phase will not be measured only by the first weeks, but by the ability to become, season after season, part of Bayern's key attacking mechanisms.
PSV loses a player who marked its most successful years
For PSV, the transfer is a major financial success, but a significant sporting loss. Saibari in Eindhoven went from a promising player to one of the symbols of the team that won three consecutive championships. His departure comes after a season in which, according to NOS, he was chosen as the Eredivisie player of the year and had an exceptional attacking output. PSV thereby gains financial space for a new team-building phase, but must replace a player who connected the midfield and attack, brought goals from the second line and gave a physical dimension to the attacking structure.
From Bayern's perspective, the transfer shows a continuation of the policy of investing in players who already have experience in major matches but are still entering the best years of their careers. Saibari is 25 years old, has enough senior stability and still has room to develop in a more demanding competitive environment. If he manages to transfer PSV's productivity and his international form to München, Bayern will get more than an additional option in the rotation. It will get a player who can increase competition, change the rhythm of a match and give Kompany more tactical solutions in a season in which the German champion will once again be expected to fight for the biggest trophies.
