Tera defeated the Hiiumaa team in Yerevan with a late goal and took its first three points in the UEFA Regions' Cup

Matches in the preliminary round of the UEFA Regions' Cup often have a different dynamic from European club competitions, because they are played as short mini-tournaments at one location and there is no room for long-term repair of the impression. In the opening match, according to the announcement by the Football Federation of Armenia, Cilicia convincingly defeated Tera 5:0 on 14 June. Tera therefore had a very clear task against the Hiiumaa team: to win and at least temporarily restore competitive balance in the group.
After the 0:1 result, Tera completed its two appearances in the preliminary round with one victory and one defeat. Cilicia had three points and a significantly better goal difference after the first round, while Hiiumaa remained without points after the defeat to Tera before the final match with the Armenian representative. According to UEFA's competition system, only the winner of the preliminary group continues to the intermediate round, which gives the final encounter Cilicia - Hiiumaa a decisive role in the final ranking. The Lithuanian victory in the second round is therefore not only a statistical entry of three points, but also a result that determines the framework in which the last match of the mini-tournament will be played. In practice, Cilicia has the best starting position thanks to its convincing start, but UEFA's format requires the ranking to be confirmed only after all matches have been completed.
Honcharenko brought victory after Tera's difficult opening

For the Hiiumaa team, this means that in its final appearance it will have to seek not only a victory, but also a result that could affect the final ranking in the group.
A defeat in the final minutes is particularly unpleasant in short-format competitions because a team has no time for a long recovery through multiple rounds. The UEFA Regions' Cup is a special category of European football because it is a competition intended for amateur representatives of regions, that is, representatives of associations that do not come from the professional club system. According to UEFA's regulations for the 2026/27 edition, the competition has a preliminary round, an intermediate round and a final tournament. UEFA stated in its draw announcement that 34 teams are taking part in the 2026/27 edition, with 31 representatives automatically entering the intermediate round, while Armenia, Estonia and Lithuania are seeking the last place among the 32 participants in the next phase through the preliminary group. The system is therefore very selective: the winner of the small group advances, and the remaining two teams end their participation after only two encounters. It is precisely this short structure that makes every result in Yerevan important, even when it is a minimal victory.
According to UEFA's draw, the winner of the preliminary group enters group 1 of the intermediate round, where representatives of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Wales and North Macedonia await. UEFA also announced that the intermediate round consists of eight groups of four teams each, and only the winners of those groups earn the right to appear at the final tournament. The final tournament should be played in the summer of 2027, and the host, according to UEFA's information, will be determined among the associations whose representatives qualify for the finals. In the previous edition, as UEFA announced, the title was won by Spain's Aragón, with a victory in the 2024/25 final against Poland's Dolnośląski. For teams such as Tera, the Hiiumaa team and Cilicia, the preliminary round is therefore the first step toward a much broader European amateur framework.
The role of Yerevan and the organizational framework of the tournament
Yerevan is the host of this preliminary mini-tournament, which was confirmed by the Football Federation of Armenia in its competition preview. The federation announced that the matches would be played from 14 to 20 June 2026, and the schedule first foresaw the encounter between Tera and Cilicia, then the match between the Hiiumaa team and Tera, and finally the match between Cilicia and the Hiiumaa team. Hosting such a UEFA tournament implies an organizational framework in which the stadium, logistics, officials and media procedures are determined in advance, which is especially important for a competition with international amateur teams. UEFA stated that for the Hiiumaa - Tera match, the main referee was Miloš Gigović from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the assistant referees were Aleksandar Smiljanić from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Gerald Cenolli from Albania, and the fourth official was Eldorjan Hamiti from Albania. These data confirm that even the preliminary level of the competition has an international refereeing and organizational standard.
For Armenian football, hosting the preliminary round has an additional dimension because the local representative Cilicia is playing in a home environment and has the opportunity to secure continuation in the competition. According to the announcement by the Football Federation of Armenia, the opening of the tournament was successful for the home team, which defeated Tera 5:0. Still, Tera's victory over the Hiiumaa team showed that the group cannot be viewed only through the result of the first round, because each match brings different pressure and a different risk relationship. The Lithuanian team, after two played encounters, no longer depends on its own performance, while Hiiumaa and Cilicia still have one direct duel. Tera, with the victory, preserved its competitive integrity and concluded its appearance with three points, Hiiumaa remained in a difficult position, and Cilicia will have the opportunity in the last match to confirm the advantage gained in the opening. In Yerevan, therefore, until 20 June 2026, the decision continues on who will move from the preliminary round toward the intermediate round of the 2026/27 UEFA Regions' Cup.
