The Croatian Military Academy "Dr. Franjo Tuđman" continuously works on modernizing its programs and infrastructure, aiming to provide top-notch military education for both Croatian and international cadets. This year, during the council meetings held on September 12, 2024, there was a special discussion on improving military study programs such as Military Leadership and Management and Military Engineering. These programs aim to address modern challenges in military strategy and technology and are regularly updated with new content to ensure that participants gain comprehensive knowledge and skills necessary for dealing with complex security issues.
Major General Slaven Zdilar, the commander of the Academy, emphasized the importance of further modernization of the academy, which includes increasing classroom capacity, upgrading laboratories and simulation centers, as well as improving accommodation and sports facilities. The goal of these projects is not only to provide better working conditions but also to foster team cohesion among cadets, which is a crucial aspect of military education. Additionally, there are plans for significant investments in digitalization and the development of new tools for military training.
During the meetings, in addition to General Zdilar, high representatives of the University of Zagreb and the Ministry of Defense participated, including Minister Ivan Anušić. Minister Anušić highlighted the importance of military education for strengthening the capabilities of the Croatian Army and stressed that investing in people, not just technology, is crucial for ensuring the effectiveness of the armed forces. Together with Admiral Robert Hranj, the Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, the minister supported the efforts of the Academy to become a center of excellence, not only in Croatia but also on an international level.
Special attention was also given to planning the infrastructure changes needed for implementing new military training programs. To meet the demands of modern military education, significant changes are planned regarding equipment and facilities. The Academy currently hosts 527 students, including 20 international cadets from countries such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, and Germany, further confirming the international character of this institution. Additionally, the reintroduction of mandatory military service is being considered, which would require adjustments to existing capacities.
These meetings were also an opportunity to express gratitude to the previous study leaders who contributed to the establishment and development of study programs at the Academy. Their contributions have enabled the continuous improvement of military educational programs, resulting in increased recognition of the Academy within the broader academic community. In the future, the Academy will continue to work on modernization and further strengthening its capacities, aiming to achieve its vision of becoming the leading military educational institution in the region.
