Hungary convincingly outplayed Spain in the opening game of Group B at the 3x3 Basketball World Cup

The Hungarian women's national team achieved a convincing victory against Spain, winning 21:12 in a Group B match at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2026, which is being held in Warsaw from June 1 to 7. In a European duel between two national teams that traditionally belong to the very top of continental 3x3 basketball, the Hungarians imposed a high tempo of play from the very beginning and did not allow their opponents to pose a more serious threat.

According to FIBA's official schedule and results, the game was played on June 2, 2026, in the capital of Poland, and Hungary secured the victory before the end of regulation time by reaching the 21-point mark, which is one of the ways a game can end in 3x3 basketball.

Control of the game from the first minute

From the very beginning of the duel, Hungary looked more secure and better organized. Aggressive defense and precise finishing enabled them to take an early lead, while Spain struggled to find its rhythm on offense. The gap gradually increased as the game progressed, and the Hungarian players took advantage of almost every mistake made by their opponents.

Their efficiency in two-point shooting stood out in particular, as in the 3x3 format it often represents the key difference between victory and defeat. Hungary successfully stretched the game, created space for open shots, and maintained a high level of intensity throughout the entire match.

Spain occasionally managed to string together several quality attacks, but failed to find the continuity that would have allowed them to get back into the game. The difference became unreachable during the closing stages, and the final score of 21:12 clearly shows the balance of power on the court.

An important victory in an evenly matched Group B

Group B of the women's part of the competition brings together several national teams that are considered serious candidates for a place in the knockout stage. Alongside Hungary and Spain, the group also includes the United States of America, Australia, and Mongolia.

According to FIBA data after the first games of the second competition day, Hungary took an important step toward advancing from the group with this victory. However, the competition remains extremely strong because the same group includes current world powers in women's 3x3 basketball.

The World Cup is played in a system in which five national teams make up one group, and every game can have a significant impact on the final standings. Because of the relatively small number of games, every defeat can seriously complicate the path toward the final stage of the competition.

Warsaw hosts the biggest 3x3 event of the year

This year's World Cup is being held in Warsaw, which from June 1 to 7 is the center of world 3x3 basketball. A total of 40 national teams are taking part in the tournament, 20 in the men's and 20 in the women's competition, representing the biggest stars of one of the fastest-growing basketball disciplines.

The competition is played according to rules characteristic of 3x3 basketball. Games last ten minutes or until one team reaches 21 points. The game is played on half of a standard basketball court with one basket, and teams and national teams consist of four female or male players, three of whom are on the court at the same time.

This format brings an extremely fast pace, frequent changes in the score, and a major emphasis on individual quality, physical readiness, and making quick decisions.

Hungary confirmed its quality on the big stage

This victory further confirms the continuity of the development of Hungarian 3x3 basketball. In recent years, the national team has regularly been present at the biggest international competitions and has established itself as one of the most difficult European selections to face.

The fact that this result was achieved against Spain gives it special value, as Spain is a national team that has recorded a series of notable successes in the women's 3x3 competition in recent years. Precisely for that reason, the nine-point margin represents one of Hungary's more convincing performances at the start of the championship.

The Hungarian national team now faces new challenges against the remaining opponents in the group, while Spain will look for an opportunity to recover and return to the battle for a place among the best teams of the tournament.

The FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2026 continues with group-stage games over the coming days, after which play-in matches and the final stage will follow, deciding the new women's world champions.
