Prime Minister Andrej Plenković's recent visit to the Sisak-Moslavina County further highlighted the importance of accelerating the reconstruction of areas affected by the earthquake, with a particular focus on infrastructure, housing projects, and education. One of the key projects announced is the completion of the highway section to Sisak, which will drastically improve the connectivity of this county with the rest of Croatia and open doors to new investments and economic development. This project, worth over 280 million kuna, has been announced as one of the main prerequisites for the demographic revitalization of this region.
In addition to transportation infrastructure, the reconstruction of residential buildings becomes a crucial component of demographic and economic recovery. Sisak-Moslavina County, in cooperation with the Croatian Government and the Ministry of Physical Planning, is planning to build as many as 36 multi-apartment buildings across the region, several of which are already under construction in Sisak. These buildings, with their 666 apartments, will significantly increase the housing stock and enable the return of residents to restored homes, thus creating a stable foundation for the future development of the county.
Education also plays a key role in the plans of the Government and the county. The Gymnasium Sisak has recently been renovated, and the Viktorovac Secondary School in Sisak will enable students and teachers to manage a hotel in the Tuškanova House, creating a new opportunity for acquiring practical skills. These projects are just part of a broader strategy that also includes the renovation of the Technical School Sisak, which is becoming a regional center of competence for electrical engineering and computing. The latest equipment has been procured, and the complex of the former barracks in Lađarska Street is also being renovated, further raising the standards of educational conditions in the region.
Parallel to education, special attention is being paid to the healthcare sector. Work is underway on the renovation of hospital complexes in Sisak and Petrinja, as well as the construction of new facilities for the SMŽ Health Center. Total investments in healthcare infrastructure amount to over 28 million euros, with an additional 7.8 million euros used for the procurement of medical equipment. The Government has also announced the construction of a new medical wellness and spa center in Sisak, with a value estimated at 13 million euros, further strengthening the capacity for physical therapy and rehabilitation in this area.
One of the significant social projects is the increase in capacity for the accommodation of elderly people. Sisak-Moslavina County has already completed the renovation of homes for the elderly in Sisak and Glina, while the renovation of a home in Petrinja is underway. Additionally, the construction of new county settlements in Kutina and Popovača is planned, which will provide accommodation for the elderly in modern residential units. These settlements, together with the existing capacities in Glina, Petrinja, and Sisak, will ensure accommodation for over 200 people, including those with disabilities.
One of the key prerequisites for further revitalization of the region is the continuation of investments in reconstruction and construction projects, particularly in the segment of residential units and transportation infrastructure. All planned projects are expected to be completed by 2025, making Sisak-Moslavina County not only restored but also a competitive destination for living, work, and investment. These investments and projects provide a solid foundation for further demographic growth and attracting young families, thus ensuring long-term stability and development of the region.
