Tradition and fun in the heart of the Dobrinj area: St. John's Feast in Sveti Ivan

On Saturday, June 21st, starting at 8 PM, the village of Sveti Ivan Dobrinjski will exude the spirit of tradition and community. On the occasion of the feast of St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of the village, the traditional folk festival known as "Ivanje" is held. This event, deeply rooted in local culture, is the central celebration in the village, bringing together locals and their guests in a celebration that lasts late into the night. Ivanje is more than just a celebration; it is an opportunity to preserve intangible heritage, pass on customs to younger generations, and strengthen community bonds. Visitors can expect an atmosphere filled with laughter, dance, and the aromas of local specialties, making this festival an authentic experience of the island of Krk. The popular group "Cukar i kafe" is in charge of the musical part of the evening, a band known for their energetic performances and a wide repertoire that includes domestic and foreign pop-rock hits, Dalmatian and coastal songs, and essential evergreens that guarantee dancing until dawn. Their ability to feel the pulse of the audience and create interaction makes them the perfect choice for this type of celebration, ensuring that the dance floor will be full throughout the evening. The venue, Sveti Ivan Dobrinjski, with its stone architecture and charming atmosphere, provides the perfect backdrop for this folk festival. Sporting challenge in Soline Bay: The second edition of the "Swim across the bay" swimming marathon

Sunday morning, June 22nd, is reserved for sports and recreation enthusiasts. Starting at exactly 10 AM, the second edition of the swimming competition called "Preplavaj valu" (Swim across the bay) begins. Organized by the diligent members of the Sports Recreation Association Kivna from Klimno and the Rival Triathlon Club from Rijeka, this event promotes a healthy lifestyle, sportsmanship, and the natural beauty of the Dobrinj aquatorium. The main race, a 1500-meter swimming marathon, will test the endurance and skill of the competitors on one of the most beautiful routes on the island. The start is planned from the waterfront in Čižići, and the swimmers will direct their strokes across Soline Bay towards the finish line on the waterfront in Klimno. This sporting event is not just a competition, but also an opportunity for socializing and enjoying the unique landscape. Soline Bay, known for its healing mud and calm sea, provides ideal conditions for open water swimming. Special attention is paid to the safety of all participants. The organizers have ensured an escort with a sufficient number of boats along the entire route, as well as the presence of a medical team and lifeguards on the fastest vessel, so that all competitors feel safe and cared for. Immediately after the end of the main race, children's races of 25 and 50 meters will be held in Klimno, thus encouraging the youngest to engage in sports and love for the sea. After the sporting efforts, refreshments will be organized for all participants at the small football field in Klimno, where members of USR Kivna will prepare a well-deserved meal and drinks. The winners' announcement with a formal awarding of medals and appropriate prizes is planned for around 12 PM, which will conclude this sporting morning. All those interested in participating must register via the official link: https://forms.gle/FzoFXu7YhbajStBw5. Due to the great interest in this event, visitors are advised to secure their accommodation in Čižići or Klimno in time.

Cultural exchange: Exhibition of Hungarian artists in Čižići

The cultural program of the weekend is enriched on Sunday, June 22nd, at 6 PM, with the opening of a new exhibition in Čižići. Organized by the More Tours Čižići agency, in the space of the Kristina apartment house (Čižići 307b), the works of two talented young Hungarian painters, Emese Oláh and Dóra Lili Albert, will be presented to the public. This cultural event has a dual purpose: on the one hand, to enrich the cultural offer of the island of Krk by presenting the contemporary Hungarian art scene, and on the other, to bring the rich historical and cultural heritage of the "golden island" closer to guests from Hungary. The initiative of the More Tours agency testifies to the importance of international cultural cooperation and building bridges between different cultures through the universal language of art. Visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the worlds created by Emese Oláh and Dóra Lili Albert, exploring their unique styles, techniques, and thematic preoccupations. The exhibition is not just a transient event; it is designed as a permanent installation that will be open to visitors throughout the year. Thus, Čižići gains a new, permanent cultural point that will surely attract art lovers. The Kristina apartment house thus becomes more than a place for vacation, transforming into a gallery space and a meeting place of cultures. The town of Čižići, known for its beach with healing mud, further confirms its commitment to the development of cultural tourism with this exhibition, offering its guests content that goes beyond sun and sea. The opening of the exhibition is an excellent way to end a fulfilling weekend on the island of Krk, combining relaxation by the sea with artistic inspiration.

Tourism desk

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
