Colourful events on Lošinj in August: Concerts, theatre and tradition in various parts of the island

August on Lošinj offers a diverse programme with numerous musical performances, concerts, theatre performances and traditional customs, including the Maritime Evening, Osor Musical Evenings, the Nerezine Summer Festival and the Lošinj Balconies Festival.

All visitors and locals can enjoy a variety of events throughout August on Lošinj, with numerous music performances, concerts, theater shows, and traditional customs. The program includes Maritime Evening, ABBA Real tribute band, performances by Martin Kosovec and Zoran Predin, Osor Musical Evenings, Nautical Concert, Nerezine Summer Games, Veloselska mussel feast, and the Festival of Lošinj balconies.

Together in Music
To experience old customs and have fun, every Thursday folk groups and local klapa perform in Mali and Veli Lošinj and Nerezine. Tuesday is reserved for the Lošinj majorettes and the Josip Kašman Wind Orchestra.

Classical music lovers can enjoy performances in Osor, where renowned world musicians perform in the Osor Cathedral during the 49th Osor Musical Evenings (16.7.-20.8.). The classical music festival has been held in Osor since 1976. In the parish church of the Birth of B. D. Mary in Mali Lošinj, Lošinjan Dino Đerić Baričević will hold a classical accordion concert (17.8.).

On the Mali Lošinj square and the Lošinj Captains' Quay, another Maritime Evening (14.8.) will be held, showcasing maritime tradition, exhibits, and boats along with a gastronomic offer on excursion boats, as well as performances by folklore and local klapa groups. The evening hours are reserved for the performance of the ABBA Real tribute band.

The Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day will be celebrated by the people of Lošinj and their guests on the main square in Mali Lošinj with a Dino Dvornik tribute band. Also, Martin Kosovec, the winner of the 4th season of The Voice Croatia, will perform at the same location (7.8.), as well as The Beatles Revival Band (23.8.). As part of “Un'Estate Lussignana”, the local band Macaklini will hold a concert (2.8.), while Sergio Pavat will organize a concert of Italian popular and rock music on the Republic of Croatia Square organized by the Italian Community of Mali Lošinj (31.8.).

Lošinj boasts a festival dedicated to Josip Kašman, the 'prince of baritones'. At the end of August, Mimoza Keka and Jovan Trajchev will perform with the program “Harmony of Piano Through Four Hands” (31.8.). A concert by Robert Franco “Queen Piano Transcriptions” will be held at the Lošinj Museum - Fritzi Palace (22.8.).

Unusual Locations
One of the special concerts by location is certainly the Nautical Concert (11.8.) in the Bay of the Englishman on the island of Koludarac. The Lošinj Wind Orchestra Josip Kašman will perform in front of an audience located on boats and other vessels.

The B(a)rdina area in Mali Lošinj recently received a new function, with photo points, it has become a place for smaller concerts. This year, Zoran Predin will perform there (9.8.).

Attention will also be drawn to the Festival of Lošinj balconies which takes place on the balconies of Mali and Veli Lošinj (21.-23.8.), while the newer location Annunziata in the Čikat Bay, near the Addio sculpture, offers mini performances by the Magic Guitars duo (5.8./12.8./19.8./26.8.).

Laughter, Cinema, and Theater
On the summer stage of the Vladimir Nazor cinema in Mali Lošinj, numerous film screenings will be held. Comedies and theater shows will mark the summer: the hit comedy “What’s Your Wife Like, That’s Your Life” by Dragan Marinković Maca (1.8.), Stand up comedy "Better Half" by Vlatko Štampar (6.8.) and Best of Vlatko (18.8.), Stand up comedy “Made in Bosnia” by Hazim Mujčinović (8.8.), Audition Marinko Ćutuk and Ero from the Other World by Željko Ninčić (22.8.).

The amphitheater of the Mali Lošinj City Library and Reading Room is also a venue. A concert of classical music and Irish traditional compositions “Harp” will be performed by Elisa Manzutto (8.8.), and the Lošinj theater JAK will perform the hit comedy “A Vaporetto, a Hat, a Button” (21.8.).

Italian cinema lovers will enjoy the “Week of Italian Cinema”, screenings of films at Villa Perla, the headquarters of the Italian Community in Mali Lošinj (13.-16.8.). This is followed by a theater performance by Carlo Colombo “Mili Muoi” (18.8.).

Smaller Places and Islands
The cultural and entertainment program also takes place in smaller places and on smaller islands. Locals and visitors joyfully participate in the traditional Nerezine Summer Games (until 4.8.). Nerezine Park will host the children's summer carnival (17.8.).

On Susak, after celebrating Emigrant's Day, Susak Music Evenings (until 2.8.) and the concert “Voyage to New Worlds” (1.8.) are held. A klapa meeting in Ćunski (10.8.), Belej Nights with concerts by Klapa Čikat (11.8.), Veljak Quartet (13.8.), Karin Kuljanić (15.8.), and Pešekani Quartet (16.8.) will be held in Belej.

On Unije, the Sunset Unije festival is held (until 1.9.), a music evening in Barabar (3.8.), the Thanksgiving Day celebration (5.8.), the election of the most charming dog of Unije (20.8.), the election of the queen/king of fritule (22.8.), bedtime stories every Wednesday, as well as children's creative workshops and walks on newly renovated paths. In the parish church on Unije, Nela Katalenić, Josip Galić, and Paula Jadrušić will perform with the program “Homage to Puccini” (13.8.).

On the Tomazinka pier in the settlement of Artatore, a concert by Klapa Čikat will be held (19.8.).

Summer in Veli Lošinj will be marked by numerous film screenings, theater performances, and music performances. The Trio Meraki band will perform three times in the Veli Lošinj harbor (5.8./13.8./24.8.). Theater performances, including “We Will Always Have Love” (8.8.) and English Stand-up (17.8.), will be a regular offer. Veloselska night (3.8.) with a mussel feast and a performance by the Fiesta band will also be in Veli Lošinj. The Klapa concert at Pjacalu in front of the parish church of St. Anthony (20.8.) will be a special treat.

Culture and Exhibitions
The Lošinj Museum and the Apoxyomenos Museum offer numerous exhibitions and events: The Ethnographic Collection of Karniše (until 30.9.), the exhibition and promotion of the collection and poetry “Brodarica” by Margareta Perišić (until 2.8.), the exhibition Sheep Farming on Unije (3.-31.8.) and a workshop on felting woolen flowers by Ruta Wool&Design (4.8.).

At the Apoxyomenos Museum, you can view the exhibition “Olive- sacred plant and rich gift” until September 15, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the extraction of the Apoxyomenos statue from the sea floor. At the Fritzi Palace until September 1, the exhibition “Ars amatoria- love and erotica in ancient Rome” also attracts visitors.

The Artour Nerezine association this year offers various events, from the 16th OSCARfest (until 1.11.) in Osor, to exhibitions in the Tuorić oil mill in Nerezine; a creative workshop for children and adults “Summer in the Oil Mill” (until 15.9.), the exhibition of Marko Vrdoljak and Dimitrije Popović “They Are Here” (until 10.8.), the exhibition of Ljerka Njerš “Art on Silk” (12.-19.8.), and the stories of the Cres-Lošinj archipelago “Remembrance” (until 1.9.).

September on Lošinj
From September 7 to 21, a festival dedicated to maritime and shipbuilding traditions - Losinava - will be held on Lošinj. During this two-week festival, various workshops, lectures, musical and cultural events are expected, reviving the historical and cultural heritage of the island.
