In the very heart of the island, the historic core of the city of Krk came alive again in its full glory from August 8th to 10th, turning into an epicenter of unique experiences. The event Krk Fair – Lovrečeva, with a tradition that goes back more than five centuries, has this year once again confirmed its status as one of the most anticipated summer events on the Adriatic. The combination of authentic heritage, top-notch music, traditional gastronomy, and interactive content created an unforgettable three-day story that attracted rivers of visitors and filled the city streets with vibrant energy. If you are planning a visit, consider booking accommodation in Krk to fully experience everything the city has to offer.
This year's edition of the fair once again broke attendance records, with an impressive 44,000 overnight stays recorded during the three days of the event. The city of Krk became a temporary haven for guests from all over the world, confirming its reputation as a desirable tourist destination. Statistical data reveals a colorful international structure of visitors; guests from Germany, Slovenia, and Italy were in the lead, and a significant number of arrivals were also recorded from Croatia, Austria, the Netherlands, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, and the Czech Republic. This impressive number testifies to the magnetic attraction of Lovrečeva, which successfully combines local spirit with global trends.
Return to the Middle Ages: Knightly Displays and Old Crafts Workshops
The organizers, the Tourist Board of the City of Krk and the City of Krk, have once again outdone themselves in creating a program that uniquely revives the spirit of past times. The central part of the event was dedicated to a journey into the medieval past, and the streets and squares turned into a picturesque stage where the Frankopan Princes of Krk played the main role. Their presence, along with the participation of numerous historical and cultural associations, created an authentic atmosphere of the Frankopan era. Guests had the opportunity to witness the skills and life of knights thanks to associations such as the Archery Club Maura Kal, the Archery Club Krk, the historical unit Bakarska straža, the Friends of the City of Trsat Club, the Kaštel Svetvinčenat Association, Karoloboom, and Mak Teatar.
Visitors enthusiastically watched attractive stage sketches, dynamic displays of knightly combat, and a tense archery tournament. Special attention was drawn to the street jesters who entertained passers-by with their quips and acrobatics, while an exhibition of authentic knightly equipment provided a unique insight into the weaponry and armor of that time. The opportunity to view medieval weapons and uniforms, as well as to be photographed with costumed knights, created lasting memories for many families and visitors, transporting them for a moment into the glorious history of the city. The rich history and cultural content make a stay in Krk an experience to remember.
An Interactive Experience for All Generations
In addition to visual spectacles, Lovrečeva also offered a rich interactive program. A special contribution was made by creative and educational content, such as interpretive walks that revived the forgotten corners of Krk's rich history through storytelling and legends. Equally popular were the numerous thematic workshops for both children and adults. Visitors could dive into the world of old crafts and try their hand at making dolls from corn husks and flowers from rustling leaves. Those more inclined to fashion could learn the secrets of making medieval hairstyles and unique jewelry from seashells. Creativity was also encouraged through workshops on modeling small souvenirs from clay, making Glagolitic letters using the popular quilling technique, weaving head wreaths from dried flowers, and making pendants with Glagolitic motifs, which in a practical way preserves and promotes the intangible cultural heritage of the island.
The daily program was further enriched by performances of local cultural forces. The sounds of the Krk Town Orchestra, the children's choir Mići Boduli, the choir of the Association of Pensioners of the city of Krk, and the melodic performances of the klapa Vejanke filled the town squares. Folklore groups from the city of Krk area also made their contribution, showcasing the richness of the island's dance and music tradition. The highlight of the daytime events was the spectacular fire show, which with its play of fire and light delighted the assembled crowd and created a magical atmosphere under the starry sky.
Music Spectacles on the Krk Riva
While the day was filled with tradition and interactive content, the evening hours were reserved for top musical performances on the main stage on the Krk riva, turning it into an open-air dance floor. On the first evening, Tonči Huljić & Madre Badessa, with their distinctive Mediterranean charm and infectious rhythms, got the audience dancing and created an atmosphere of a real summer festival. After them, the fantastic Groovers brought the energy to a boiling point, whose repertoire of famous hits kept the audience on its feet.
The second evening brought an equally exciting program. A performance by the band Night Express and a set by DJ Luca Montecchi turned the riva into a large dance club under the stars, and the party lasted until the early morning hours. The grand finale of the three-day event belonged to one of the greatest divas of the Croatian music scene, Doris Dragović. Her emotional and powerful performances of her greatest hits touched the hearts of the audience, and a special, magical moment of the evening occurred when she was joined on stage by the Krk Town Orchestra. The combination of orchestral accompaniment and a powerful vocal created a unique synergy and an atmosphere to remember. The final note of joy and dance was provided by the Infinity Band Croatia, who concluded this year's Lovrečeva with their performance, leaving visitors with a smile and a handful of beautiful memories.
A Rhapsody of Flavors: A Gastronomic Offer That Conquers
The Krk Fair would not be complete without an extraordinary oeno-gastronomic offer that satisfied even the most demanding palates. At several strategically located gastronomic points, visitors could enjoy the richness of flavors of the island of Krk and Kvarner. The smell of juicy spit-roasted lamb spread through the streets, luring lovers of meat specialties, while seafood lovers indulged in fresh fish specialties. For a sweet break, fritule and homemade ice cream were a must. The offer was rounded off by top-quality Kvarner wines and aromatic brandies that perfectly accompanied the rich flavors of the food.
The organizers made sure that the offer was diverse, combining traditional recipes with a contemporary culinary approach. Thus, visitors could also find creative bites of more modern cuisine, as well as a rich selection of refreshing cocktails that provided perfect refreshment during the hot summer evenings. This fusion of flavors allowed every guest to find something for themselves, confirming that gastronomy is an indispensable part of the Lovrečeva experience and one of the key reasons to visit and find accommodation in Krk.
This year's Lovrečeva has once again proven that a successful blend of tradition, culture, entertainment, and gastronomy is the strongest tourist asset. The event showed how the city of Krk not only proudly preserves its rich history but also knows how to present and pass it on to new generations and numerous visitors from all over the world in a creative and modern way, securing its place on the map of unmissable summer destinations.
