The city of Krk, the historical pearl of the Adriatic, this year once again becomes the epicenter of cultural and entertainment events, preparing for its most famous and most anticipated manifestation. From August 8th to 10th, 2025, the streets and squares of this city will once again bring to life the spirit of the past and present through the Krk Fair – Lovrečeva, a three-day spectacle that uniquely combines tradition, history, gastronomy, and top-notch music. This event, which is deeply woven into the identity of the island, this year once again promises an unforgettable experience for all generations of visitors, confirming its status as one of the oldest and most esteemed festivals in Kvarner. The organizers, the Krk Tourist Board and the City of Krk, have prepared an exceptionally rich and completely free program that will fill every corner of the city with life and energy.
A centuries-old tradition in Frankopan attire
The story of the Krk Fair reaches deep into history, to a time when the island was proudly ruled by the Frankopan princes, one of the most powerful Croatian noble families. Although it is assumed that fair days existed even earlier, historical documents confirm that the holding of the fair was re-approved way back in 1524 on the occasion of the feast of St. Lawrence, the patron saint to whom the event owes its name, Lovrečeva. What began as an important trading event, to which merchants from various parts of Europe came to sell their goods, has transformed over five centuries of existence into a unique tourist attraction and cultural phenomenon. Today's Lovrečeva represents a living time machine that takes visitors back to the medieval era, offering them an authentic insight into the life, customs, and skills of that time. It is precisely this ability to interpret a rich heritage in a modern way that makes this event a jewel of the Croatian tourist offer and the reason why the city of Krk is an unmissable summer destination.
A journey to the Middle Ages on Kamplin Square
The central stage for reviving history is traditionally Kamplin Square, located at the foot of the magnificent Frankopan Castle. During the three days of the fair, this picturesque square becomes the scene of medieval life. Knights in shining armor, members of historical associations such as the Princes of Krk, the Frankopans and their guests from all over Croatia, will demonstrate their martial skills through reenactments of knightly battles and tournaments. Visitors will have the opportunity to view exhibited medieval equipment, try their hand at archery under the watchful eye of experienced archers from the Maura Kal Archery Club, or simply enjoy the atmosphere created by costumed participants, street entertainers, and jesters. Particularly interesting are the numerous free workshops for both children and adults. There, one can learn forgotten skills, such as making dolls from corn husks, weaving laurel wreaths, or even felting authentic Krk wool. This interactive content allows visitors to be not just observers, but active participants in an exceptional historical story, which enriches the experience of their stay and the search for accommodation in Krk.
A treasury of authentic flavours and scents
The Krk Fair is unimaginable without a rich and varied offer of authentic products that represent the essence of the island and all of Croatia. Dozens of stalls of small producers, family farms, and skilled artisans turn the streets of Krk into a real market of tastes, smells, and colors. Visitors will be able to taste and buy top delicacies for which the island is famous: the award-winning Krk prosciutto, aromatic sheep cheese, golden olive oil from the "Drobnica" association, homemade honey, and fig products. An indispensable part of the offer are the traditional Krk šurlice, a pasta that pairs perfectly with various sauces, and a drop of top-quality Vrbnik žlahtina. In addition to gastronomic delights, the fair also offers an insight into traditional crafts. The diligent hands of island artisans will present unique handicrafts, jewelry, clothing items, and souvenirs, thus preserving the cultural heritage from oblivion and offering visitors a lasting memory of this special event.
Music spectacle on the Krk waterfront
When the day slowly comes to an end and the sun sets behind the horizon, the center of events moves to the Krk waterfront, which turns into a large open-air stage. The evening music program of Lovrečeva is widely known for its great atmosphere and performances by renowned musical names, and this year's edition does not deviate from that tradition. Over three evenings, the audience will have the opportunity to enjoy a diverse and energetic program. The stage will be taken by a true hitmaker and musical genius, Tonči Huljić with his band Madre Badessa, whose Mediterranean pop sound will surely get everyone dancing. For a dose of unstoppable energy and top entertainment, the bands Grooversi and Night Express will take care of it, known for their dynamic performances and wide repertoire. There is also the versatile Infinity Band Croatia, while the popular DJ Luca Montecchi will once again be in charge of the big disco party on the waterfront, turning it into a dance floor under the stars. A special emotional highlight of this year's fair will undoubtedly be the performance of a true music diva – Doris Dragović. Her powerful vocals and timeless ballads, which have marked more than four decades of the music scene, will provide the audience with a night to remember and round off this magnificent celebration of tradition and togetherness in the city of Krk in the most beautiful way possible.
Recognition for excellence and national significance
The quality, authenticity, and strong identity of the Krk Fair – Lovrečeva have not gone unnoticed. This event is the proud winner of the prestigious annual Croatian tourist award for the tourist event of the year, which was awarded to it at the Croatian Tourism Days 2024 event. This highest national recognition in tourism is a confirmation of the exceptional effort and vision of the organizers, the Krk Tourist Board and the City of Krk, in creating an event that promotes Croatian cultural heritage in the best possible way and enriches the tourist offer. In addition, the fair also received recognition for its exceptional contribution to the development of tourism in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, which further confirmed its importance not only at the local, but also at the regional level. These awards serve as an additional incentive and guarantee that visitors can expect a superbly organized and content-rich event this year as well, for which it is always worth returning and finding accommodation in Krk.
