At the beginning of summer, Trsat Castle once again becomes the epicenter of cultural and entertainment events in Rijeka: the 20th edition of the "Summer at Gradina" event brings more than two months of top-notch musical, theatrical, and family content. The organizers promise a rich and diverse program that will last from June 19 to August 31, 2025, with a special emphasis on preserving tradition while simultaneously taking an innovative approach.

The event opens with Tomislav Bralić and klapa Intrade

This year's edition begins on Thursday, June 19, 2025, with a powerful performance by Tomislav Bralić and klapa Intrade, continuing the city's century-old musical tradition. The musical evenings are designed for all generations, with an emphasis on regional and national performances, including names like Pips, Chips & Videoclips, Silente, Sergej Ćetković, Goran Bare & Majke, Božo Vrećo, Rambo Amadeus, and others.

A spectacle in Nugent Park and the infrastructure of Gradina

The director of the Rijeka Tourist Board, Petar Škarpa, emphasized that this year's Summer at Gradina brings a significant shift – part of the concerts are also planned in Nugent Park, creating a new stage and additional spaces for visitors. {#secPrikazSmjestaja} The Small Park gains a new dimension — electricity, water, and optical infrastructure have been introduced, and the entrance tower and its surroundings have been horticulturally landscaped. All of this was realized after Gradina came under the management of the Tourist Board a year ago, as part of connecting culture and tourism.

Mayor Iva Rinčić on the importance of the event

Mayor Iva Rinčić described Summer at Gradina as a key event for Rijeka's identity, especially as this is one of her first public addresses in her new term. – Gradina holds a special place in the hearts of the people of Rijeka, and in mine personally. This project not only celebrates the past but also builds the future – she pointed out, adding that the demanding organization will be rewarded with high attendance and the collaborative work of everyone involved.

Program for children and families

The children's segment of Summer at Gradina attracts numerous families. Nisa Hrvatin Petrović, the author of the theater play “Three Brothers and Three Towers,” invites the youngest to join the fun and educational content, adapted for children of all ages. The program is designed to include creative workshops, interaction with the actors, and an opportunity for the young audience to participate in the play.

The musical spectacle Rock’n’Rollin’ Time

Mauro Štefančić from the Gradina Rock Show program highlighted one of the most impressive events – “Rock’n’Rollin’ Time feat. Valerija Nikolovska & Žanil Tataj Žak.” This three-hour musical spectacle brings back the hits of rock giants, including Queen, Bon Jovi, Toto, Guns N’ Roses, and many others. Don’t miss the opportunity for a journey through rock history with live performances by the star hosts.

Damir Kedžo invites you to his performance

Famous singer Damir Kedžo emotionally reflected on his connections with Trsat and Gradina – it was here that he performed at one of his first concerts. His comeback concert is scheduled for August 15, and Kedžo also announced the recording of a live performance for release. We invite all pop music lovers to visit Trsat that day and experience an intimate live performance.

International flair – Korean rock in August

Jelena Grubelić Kušeta from the Tourist Board confirmed that Summer at Gradina will expand the boundaries of its musical offerings: the August program includes two announced performances by Korean rock bands – YB and Rolling Quartz. Both groups are part of a Croatian tour and are also filming a reality series from Rijeka. These events emphasize cultural exchange and an opening towards global musical trends.

Gastronomic delight and the ambiance of Trsat Castle

In addition to the musical and theatrical content, a rich selection of foodie offerings is also organized: each day of the event comes with its own food truck, offering international and traditional flavors. Furthermore, the ambiance at Trsat Castle, enhanced by horticultural interventions, allows visitors a pleasant stay with a view of the city and the sea.

Utility and traffic challenges

The introduction of increased decibel levels during the summer evenings may cause temporary disturbances in the Trsat and Kozala areas, so the organizers ask for understanding. The Tourist Board, together with city departments, is preparing for increased traffic and infrastructure work, and is providing additional measures for the safety and comfort of visitors.

The event's organizational team, led by Iva Sušlić (Promocija d.o.o.), Marcela de Privitellio (MAAN ENT d.o.o.), and Ružica Ažman (Pul Kaštela), has ensured that the program includes over 50 events: from music, theater, exhibitions, themed evenings, to workshops and dance performances.

Visually rich, diverse, and complex, this year's Summer at Gradina program will offer the people of Rijeka, as well as numerous tourists from Croatia and abroad, a top-notch summer experience – a blend of quality, tradition, and artistic innovation within the historical ambiance of Trsat Castle.

Tourism desk

Our Travel Desk was born out of a long-standing passion for travel, discovering new places, and serious journalism. Behind every article stand people who have been living tourism for decades – as travelers, tourism workers, guides, hosts, editors, and reporters. For more than thirty years, destinations, seasonal trends, infrastructure development, changes in travelers’ habits, and everything that turns a trip into an experience – and not just a ticket and an accommodation reservation – have been closely followed. These experiences are transformed into articles conceived as a companion to the reader: honest, informed, and always on the traveler’s side.

At the Travel Desk, we write from the perspective of someone who has truly walked the cobblestones of old towns, taken local buses, waited for the ferry in peak season, and searched for a hidden café in a small alley far from the postcards. Every destination is observed from multiple angles – how travelers experience it, what the locals say about it, what stories are hidden in museums and monuments, but also what the real quality of accommodation, beaches, transport links, and amenities is. Instead of generic descriptions, the focus is on concrete advice, real impressions, and details that are hard to find in official brochures.

Special attention is given to conversations with restaurateurs, private accommodation hosts, local guides, tourism workers, and people who make a living from travelers, as well as those who are only just trying to develop lesser-known destinations. Through such conversations, stories arise that do not show only the most famous attractions but also the rhythm of everyday life, habits, local cuisine, customs, and small rituals that make every place unique. The Travel Desk strives to record this layer of reality and convey it in articles that connect facts with emotion.

The content does not stop at classic travelogues. It also covers topics such as sustainable tourism, off-season travel, safety on the road, responsible behavior towards the local community and nature, as well as practical aspects like public transport, prices, recommended neighborhoods to stay in, and getting your bearings on the ground. Every article goes through a phase of research, fact-checking, and editing to ensure that the information is accurate, clear, and applicable in real situations – from a short weekend trip to a longer stay in a country or city.

The goal of the Travel Desk is that, after reading an article, the reader feels as if they have spoken to someone who has already been there, tried everything, and is now honestly sharing what is worth seeing, what to skip, and where those moments are hidden that turn a trip into a memory. That is why every new story is built slowly and carefully, with respect for the place it is about and for the people who will choose their next destination based on these words.
