Central Dalmatia will once again exude a sporting spirit and adrenaline as another edition of the popular Trogir Outdoor Festival approaches, an event that has already gained the status of an unmissable event for all lovers of active holidays and natural beauty. This May festival, proudly hosted by the historic city of Trogir and the neighboring, picturesque island of Čiovo, confirms its importance year after year by enriching the tourist offer in the pre-season period, while simultaneously nurturing Trogir's rich tradition of craftsmanship in various skills.

The event regularly gathers hundreds of enthusiastic athletes, both professionals and recreational participants, who arrive in Trogir ready for new challenges and to prove their own abilities. By participating in this festival, competitors not only test their limits but also get the opportunity to be inscribed on the honorary list of Trogir sports masters, thus continuing the tradition of excellence that has adorned this region for centuries.

The Beginning of the Festival in the Sign of Wind and Waves: A Sailing Spectacle beneath Kamerlengo

This year's Trogir Outdoor Festival began truly impressively, and the introductory part of the event, held from May 2nd to 4th, 2025, was marked by the exciting Melges 24 Cup class regatta. Beneath the imposing walls of the medieval Kamerlengo fortress, which dominates the skyline of Trogir, a true maritime spectacle called “Masters under Sails” took place. Top sailors demonstrated their skills in dynamic duels on the sea, providing spectators with unforgettable scenes and plenty of adrenaline. The competition in this exceptionally popular and competitive sailing class attracted numerous crews and sailing enthusiasts, confirming Trogir's status as an important nautical destination. More detailed information about the cup itself and the results can be found on the official Cromelges 24 website. The weather conditions favored the sailors, enabling tense races and a demonstration of top sports skills, thus opening the festival in the best possible way.

The Adventure Continues: Trail Races Conquer the Island of Čiovo

After the excitement at sea, the Trogir Outdoor Festival shifts its focus to land, preparing for adrenaline-pumping trail races to be held on May 24th, 2025. Under the name “Trail Masters”, this segment of the festival is organized jointly by the Trogir Tourist Board and the experienced Trail and Trekking Club STrka, guaranteeing top-notch organization and an unforgettable experience for all participants. Trail running, a discipline that combines running and hiking on marked trails in nature, is experiencing a global expansion in popularity, and the island of Čiovo, with its characteristics, represents an ideal stage for such a competition. Its diverse natural trails, often hidden from view and passable only by true adventurers, wind through Mediterranean vegetation, olive groves, and pine forests, offering spectacular views of the crystal-clear Adriatic Sea and nearby islands. It is this combination of physical challenge and natural beauty that makes Čiovo a perfect destination for all those seeking an active holiday and an escape from everyday life. If you are planning a visit, consider accommodation in Trogir to be at the center of all events.

The organizers announce a rich and interesting accompanying program that will further enrich the festival experience for both competitors and numerous spectators and fans. After the completion of all races, there will be a solemn announcement of the winners in the men's and women's categories for each of the trails, along with the awarding of well-deserved medals and valuable prizes from sponsors. Registrations for the trail races are open via the STOTINKA.HR platform, where all interested parties can find detailed information about the registration process and participation conditions.

"Fire" Trail: A Fiery Challenge for Experienced Trail Runners

The most demanding trail of the festival, symbolically named "Fire", stretches for an impressive 23 kilometers and is intended primarily for more experienced and physically fit competitors seeking a true test of endurance. The start of this epic race is scheduled for 4:00 PM on the picturesque Trogir waterfront, the heart of the city of Trogir. The "Fire" trail route leads competitors through diverse landscapes, connecting the picturesque Trogir hinterland with authentic small villages such as Baradići and Milati, where the spirit of traditional Dalmatian life can still be felt. After this section, the trail crosses the newly built bridge to the island of Čiovo, opening up new vistas and challenges. On Čiovo, runners will pass through the areas of Žedno and by the church of St. Maurus, a locality rich in history and natural beauty, before returning the same way, across the bridge, to the Trogir waterfront where their well-deserved finish awaits.

The time limit for completing this challenging race is set at 5 hours, meaning all competitors must cross the finish line by 9:00 PM. Additionally, there is a time limit at the checkpoint near the new bridge (at approximately the 12th kilometer of the trail), where runners must arrive within 2 hours and 15 minutes from the start (by 6:15 PM). To ensure the safety of all participants, mandatory equipment is prescribed, which includes a mobile phone with a fully charged battery and a functional headlamp. Without possessing the complete mandatory equipment, competitors will not be allowed to start the race. This trail represents a true test of strength, strategy, and mental fortitude.

"Earth" Trail: A Blend of Recreation and Competitive Spirit

The "Earth" trail is designed as a moderately demanding option, ideal for both recreational runners looking for an active day in nature and for more advanced runners who prefer shorter but dynamic sections. The length of this trail is 11 kilometers, offering a perfect balance of challenge and enjoyment in the beautiful surroundings of the island of Čiovo. The start of the "Earth" race is also on the Trogir waterfront, scheduled for 5:30 PM. The route leads competitors towards the interior of the island of Čiovo, passing through the area of Žedno, known for its olive groves and peaceful ambiance. One of the highlights of the trail is certainly passing by the ancient church of St. Maurus, which testifies to the rich cultural heritage of the island. After this picturesque section, runners return towards Trogir, where the finish line also awaits them on the waterfront.

The time limit for successfully completing the "Earth" trail is 3 and a half hours, meaning the last competitors should reach the finish line by 9:00 PM. Mandatory equipment is also prescribed for this trail, consisting of a mobile phone with a charged battery and a functional headlamp. The organizers emphasize the importance of adhering to the rules regarding mandatory equipment for the safety of all participants, and starting without it will not be possible. The "Earth" trail offers an opportunity to discover hidden corners of Čiovo and enjoy running through untouched nature, and the view of Trogir upon return will surely be a special reward.

"Water" Trail: Enjoyment for Beginners, Walkers, and Families

The shortest and least demanding trail of the Trogir Outdoor Festival, named "Water", is 5 kilometers long and as such is perfectly suited for beginners in trail running, walkers, families with children (the recommended age limit is a minimum of 7 years), and all those who want to participate in the festival atmosphere in a light and pleasant way and experience the beauty of Trogir from a slightly different perspective. The start of this race is also scheduled for 5:30 PM on the Trogir waterfront. The "Water" trail route is designed to provide participants with a pleasant walk or light run through attractive parts of the city and its immediate surroundings. One of the interesting points on the trail is passing by the monastery of St. Anthony, located on the Čiovo peninsula, not far from the very center of Trogir, which offers beautiful views. After touring the planned part of the trail, participants return to the Trogir waterfront where the finish of this race is also located.

The time limit for completing the "Water" trail is 2 hours, meaning the finish is open until 7:30 PM, providing enough time for everyone to master the given section at their own pace. For participation in this trail, the only mandatory equipment required is a mobile phone with a fully charged battery. The organizers emphasize that even on this easiest trail, starting will not be possible without the prescribed equipment. The "Water" trail is an ideal opportunity for family gatherings, recreation, and creating beautiful memories in the wonderful ambiance of the UNESCO city of Trogir.

Year after year, the Trogir Outdoor Festival proves that it is more than just a sports competition. It is an event that celebrates a healthy lifestyle, spending time in nature, sportsmanship, and the beauty of Dalmatia, combining the rich history of Trogir with modern trends in active tourism. Whether you are an experienced athlete looking for a new challenge or a recreational enthusiast eager to enjoy nature, this festival offers something for everyone, promising an unforgettable experience in the heart of Dalmatia.
